Tuning up my Sally for a rtt this weekend. Wanted to post my list to see if improvements should be made. 3 missions in rtt 2 objective and 1 KP. Painting prize as well so im taking the best painted stuff from my sallys as well.

Point of the list is to simply push fast into my opponents face using the speed of the Knight along with 4 Pods coming in first turn. I have options of Combat squading the 3 10 man squads and leaving 1,2 or 3 back with there Heavy weapons to sit on objectives.

The 10 man Tac squads have Missle Launchers in there price cost. I find if i CS them to hold objectives its nice to be able to shoot from afar instead of the 24 inch MM. However i have the points to go to MM if im compelled to do so. I can also mix it up going 2 ML and 1 MM for example.

Im going to post 3 vairiants of my list and hopefully get a discussion going on the best one.

List #1

List 4

Hmm, so you've got no anti-air so you're going to have to draw as much fire away from your troops as you can... I'd go with the last list. I don't like the ML idea though, and I don't like combat squadding them before they come down in the pod. Just stick to the MM that at least gets twin linked and combat squad after podding. You will be at a nice advantage with each pod yielding multiple Objective Secured units, and the Knights will be scary for contesting objectives.

I would try to get a unit in there that takes advantage of vulkan's flamers though, something simple like a sternguard squad of 5 with 2 heavy flamers (put vulkan here) which is BRUTAL... 3 AP4 heavy flamers on the drop that all fire together is really great for horde or swarm armies.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'd tweak it a bit to look like this (while still trying the idea of 2 knights)

Vulkan

Sternguard (5) - pod, heavy flamer x2

Tactical Squad (10) - pod, melta, MM, combi-melta
Tactical Squad (10) - pod, melta, MM, combi-melta
Tactical Squad (10) - pod, melta, MM, combi-melta
Tactical Squad (5) - pod, melta, combi-melta

Or, still thinking on this... you could try downgrading the Sternguard to a double flamer Assault Squad and take deathwind launchers on ALL the pods lol! That could be fun... they might actually be viable in this edition since they can fire the turn they arrive...

Heh... the Dual Knights was actually the first list i built but then i started to run with ideas allowing more pods plus i liked the idea of Vulcan having FNP. Stearnguard are always good and a solid idea especially with HFs.

So how bout a combo of the ideas and see how this looks:

Vulkan

Command Squad (5) - pod, Apothicary, flamer x4 *

Tactical Squad (10) - pod, melta, MM, combi-melta
Tactical Squad (10) - pod, melta, MM, combi-melta
Tactical Squad (10) - pod, melta, MM, combi-melta
Tactical Squad (5) - pod, melta, combi-melta

Knight Errant
Knight Paladin

* i have 5 extra points so i could go 3 flamers and 1 melta in the command squad.

Now ive got the threats from the Knights joined with 3 pods coming in.

Vulcan and the Paladin are anti Horde and the other knight and 4 units of anti tank low ap killers.

You don't want Vulkan with regular flamers because in 7th you have to resolve the weapons separately.. So whomever shoots first (heavy or regular flamers) takes away from the others' effective kill range... Sucks :/ I'd just give them better ranged weapons at that point or try something else. FNP on him is ok, but most people will try to double him out bc he doesn't have EW so I don't think it's too big of a deal.

xTHExCLINCHERx good point on the 7th edition issue.

Im going to give it a try with the sternguard and 2X HF's. and see how that works out.

so far Vulcans Heavy flamer Sternguard has worked wonderfully. It almost wiped out a 30 ork squad in one game on a drop.

The 2 knights soak up a ton of fire while the pods come in and grab objectives. List so far seems pretty solid

sticking with this for a while :

Vulkan

Sternguard (5) - pod, heavy flamer x2

Tactical Squad (10) - pod, melta, MM, combi-melta
Tactical Squad (10) - pod, melta, MM, combi-melta
Tactical Squad (10) - pod, melta, MM, combi-melta
Tactical Squad (5) - pod, melta, combi-melta

If you want to spread out some flamers, one of your ten man squads costs less than two 5-man assault squads with flamers, which can replace their jump packs with drop pods for free. Cheapest way to get another drop pod! I like those units because they also give you more choices of what to bring in turn 1. Is your enemy castling up their armor? Keep most of your melta in reserve; they can't castle forever!

Clincher brings up a valid point to keep in mind with flamers and kill ranges, BUT spread them out. Something that has worked well for me: Pod Vulkan+sternguard, 2 H.Flamers, 3 combi flamers, 4 combi meltas. Deploy from pod like so, left to right:

H. Flamer=melta=melta=flamer=vulkan=flamer=melta=flamer=H.Flamer=melta

It is a line of FLAMING DOOM that hordes absolutely cook to, as well as getting the MOST out of your templates. With changes to Open Topped allowing for templates to hit the passengers, those pesky necrons or orks won't live to regret getting carted around by their vaunted transports.

I wouldn't run 2 knights, seems really cheesy. take a librarian and buff one instead. After a test run i might decided to place the 5man tacs into TLLC razorbacks. Looks pretty strong though and you go for the objsec, so no probs there...
