Stalwart Dark Angels Space Marine
|
This game was done using 6th ed rules but here it is.... the penultimate chapter...
In case you missed any of the prior episodes you can find them on this board or click below:
Hammerfall on Ix: Our hero's step once more onto the planet and at the critical ground of Atlas Pass, stand toe-to-toe with Koros, the IronClaw!
Assault on Ix: Our hero's decode the second cogitator, and learn of a new deadly and dangerous world where their quarry is hiding. Will they track him down before he escapes?
You can also find the Prequels to this story:
Part 1: What are the cogitators of Gordium? Learn the truth of how they arrived on the planet and who else wants them...
Part 2: After undergoing a secret mission to recover the cogitators the Dark angels must fight their way out of a trap with dire consquences.
Part 3: After learning the location of one the fallen the Dark Angels travel to the world of Purgatory in order to locate their quarry, but his demonic allies have other plans...
In the early dawn, Sammael and Librarian Hephestion, over look the canyon edge in view of the bridge into the Tunguska glacier. Both are eager to continue their pusuit of the mercurial villian Bolivox, who, with every passing hour, gets closer to the polar fortress of Gastongen held by the forces of Chaos...
Deployment - Dark Angels deployed first and in order to keep the demons honest had to spread out and not concentrate on one flank. Unfortunately after moving we remembered to roll for night fight, which was successful.
Dark Angels 1 - The command squad fires on the beasts of nurgle but can't penetrate the saving throws of shrouding combined with the night fighting.
Demons 1 - The killing power of nurgle falls on the dark angels, the command squad fails to hit and run.
DA 2 - Things go from bad to worse. command squad eats it and beasts of nurgle regain a wound (Will Not Die). the dread is able to bring down the nearby demon prince to a single wound but no one is able to provide fire suport to kill it off, the icy lake stalagmites block the speeders LOS.
To top it off these guys fail their H&R!
These guys actually survive to H&R out of combat after Roger sweathog pokes his own eye out with the Black mace.
Demon 2 - Sammy dead, command squad dead, Dreadnaught alive but nearly dead, and all his heavy hitters are still alive. Ouch. Just so we're clear the beasts of nurgle if you have the charge get (1)+1+ d6 attacks, so if have 5 and you roll average (getting a 4)they have 30 attacks per turn and they have 4 wounds each. Damn.... that my friends is a tarpit that bites back.
Dark Angels 3 - With the demon Asag locked in combat with the contemptor Dread, all three typhoons bring ordinance to bear on the demon prince resulting in a single wound. With the last turns arrival of plaugebearers and nurglings deepstriking into the fray, the whirlwind unleashes a barrage wiping out more than half the squad. Trying to escape the ministrations of the beasts the ravenwing squad hit and runs to a point behind the canyon wall. Janus Arpegion that ancient warrior, falls, wrecked by the Demon Prince Asag. The second ravenwing squad hit and runs behind the drake hoping the greater demon can be slowed by the ruins.
Demons 3 - The helldrake advances and takes exception to Br. Tibbs and his lascannon (may it live in infamy). Asag strides past Janus and mercilessly destroys the nearest typhoon, while Roger Sweathog reproduces the feat north of the bridge. The beasts once again chase down the doomed ravenwing, while the great unclean one dispatches two, but his nefarious scheme is laid bear by the Sgt.'s quick thinking. The plaugebearers attempt to destroy the whirlwind but their powers aren't strong enough to damage the whirlwind.
Seeing the devastation wrought on their entire company, the two raven wing decide that discretion is the better part of valor and flee the field...
Final score - At the time of Concession
Demons WL, LB + 7 = 9
Dark Angels FB + 2 = 3
Summary - Well every trilogy needs its empire strikes back, and I got struck back hard. I'm glad they changed the rule about night fight cause it hurt me bad in this one. Given that i was entirely relying on sucessful hit and run out of combat, its too bad i didn't use the ravenwing banner with a second command squad and dropped the tacticals. That being said this was my second time playing demons and first time playing nurgle demons. I got abused and was also pretty unlucky but thats how dice games work. Hats off to Dr. Hemlock, he kept pressing his advantage and made me pay for every mistake. This game was at 1750 points so there wasn't enough points to give the tacts a rhino which makes them a lot more effective, as it was they were wasted points in this game. Its interesting in that the army is really made for objective missions while kill points really exposed its weaknesses. As a final word I just want to say it is a pleasure playing against such a fine opponent with such an incredible army.
Epilouge - After a six hour chase through barren tundra, Brother Danoclus and Brother Meridian make it to the caves in the Tunguska valley...
"Brother's what happened?"
As Meridan and Danoclus relay their report to Company Master Indomiel. The Co. Master becomes stoic.
"Very well. I shall relay this message to our brothers in orbit. If what you say is true we shall have to fight our way through a large host of enemies to recover Master Sammael, but what comes afterwards... We should not dwell on the words of Demons, but... This is a dark day for the Chapter. You have my thanks brothers. I know that you grieve for your brothers, but now is the time for retribution. The vengeance of the Angels shall be swift and merciless. Our enemies shall know our fury..."
Tune in next time for the exciting conclusion...

Great read and rep! I actually just had a nurgle vs DA game (death wing) in which the results were similar.

Hey man,
Thank you sir, that means a ton to me. Story is important as are good paint jobs. Nurgle is pretty tough right now. Its a struggle to keep the forces of Chaos at bay but we do our best. Thanks for reading and taking time to comment.

Both armies are stunning btw. It would be awesome to see more of these two armies. Do you or he have a blog?
Anyway, thanks again!
Still laughing about that attack bike pilot gaking his pants ha ha.

Oh go on... Seriously man thank you. I really appreciate it. That was really nice of you to say. Here's hoping we meet up and forge an epic narrative, together, that's what its all about.

Corsair your gonna make me blush man! Seriously I'm glad you like them. I would agree that my opponents army was stunning, he's got some serious conversion chops and is an incredible painter as well as being a standup guy. I'm just a schmuck with the Computer and slightly better than apelike intelligence. I'm glad that you took time out to comment, I truly appreciate your words.
As for blogs his is the quirky and off-color Escape from Reality
Mine is Dark Angels focused called Legion of Caliban
One more Chapter is under development and when it hits it'll be a doozy.

Can we have some more focussed photos of the Nurgle units? They look awesome!
How did the Contemptor go down?
Thank you for using so much time on this.

Though the corrupted Space Marines of the Traitor Legions make excellent champions for the gods of Chaos, they are not pawns and have their own agendas of vengeance, empire-building vindication or arcane study which gives them purpose. |

Love the singing Nurgle!
Great how you adapt your narrative style to the theme of the army you play against.
That army really looked like they were reveling in the slaughter of the DA and the corruption of their flesh. I even like how at the pinnacle of destruction the Greater Daemon makes the classic villain mistake and reveals the greater plans to the DA instead of just ripping out their guts through their butts.
Can't wait for the endgame!

Loved it. Kinda bull that he dropped night fight after you made your first move. Did you have a banner of devastation? I'd stay at 24 and hammer him with salvo banners then try to squish out of the weaker side when he collapsed on you. The stasis grenades can help with hit and run since they drop the Lee nurgle initative even lower.

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

Wow thanks so much man. The nurgle units are awesome I agree. I spoke to my opponent the other day and I'm gonna try and change some of the names for the characters to names he already had for them. You might be able to find pictures of them from his blog which i posted in reply to Red Corsair. The Contemptor went down when the converted fiend/Asag (Whose real name is Wildebeast Ramyermomma) charged him and finished him off in the following DAngels assault phase.

Haha exactly! "You caught me monolouging!" Having the audience know more than the characters helps to move the story along. That's the trouble with being all powerful too much self confidence. Glad you like it.

Good point, it was a little dirty but hey it was my bad not to think of it. You are right that I charged in too quickly, Im still learning the seven rites of the raven and how to conduct bike warfare. We shall see if I can improve in the future. With hit and run lowering the enemy initiative doesn't help you since its a test versus your own initiative, its a good thought though.

The beasts of Nurgle are my nemesis no doubt, but someday soon Inky, Blinky, Slinky, Stinky, and Clyde shall suffer, oh yes... The Rock I can not take credit for and thank you of reminding me of that. I have edited the post to give appropriate credit. I have been trying to get a hold of the guy who did make it (his first blog is linked above), but have not been successful. It truly is a work of art. Thanks so much for posting your comment.
