I've been waiting for over a year a while for an update to Necromundicon (Ironhands.com), my favorite wargaming site for what must be almost 20 years and Mr. Patten has finally delivered!
A second campaign log with pictorial, narrative reports on 10 different sessions. Here's just a few of what must be 100+ great pics over the course of the campaign.
The campaign is here:
http://ironhands.com/v2camp01.htm
The previous year's campaign is here:
http://ironhands.com/votomscampaign.htm
My mind has been blown again! I'm going to spend some time pouring over the pictures as I work on my own sci-fi terrain. My only real annoyance is that there's some great minis and terrain (a new sci-fi train engine a couple of spaceships and some huge city walls, etc, etc, etc) that aren't covered separately (materials used, how-to, etc) the way most of his other creations are.

Those are indeed some awesome campaign pics but I've got a thing for VOTOMs and their ilk so I'm a bit biased. I may have to look into getting some of those gashapon!

It looks like it wasn't just the Kotobukiya Blue Knight gashapon they used. Those Fatties look like the Takara Actic Gear action figures from a few years back. That's pretty cool that they did a 1/48 scale VOTOMS game.

There's a battle egg in that third picture, middle of the train compartment, can anyone tell me what that is?

Unfortunately it's not listed in the section where he shows all his Votoms figs
http://ironhands.com/votomsminis.htm
Judging from the look and size, it's a MAK (Maschinen Krieger) suit. Probably since it's originally designed as chunky power armor) either the 1/20 Model kit or the 1/35 ( IIRC?) sealed box collectible miniature series. My bet is on the collectible Unfortunately the kits are expensive (though available at HLJ) and the collectibles are out of print, but they show up sometimes on Ebay.
Alternately, the site owner is a pretty friendly sort, you can email him to fine out. His contact info is at the bottom of this page:
http://ironhands.com/necro.htm
As is the links to his 40k, Fantasy, Gundam and Spaceship minis and terrain.

Damn, they'll be too big, then, right? I thought I'd found the right kit to replace the Defiance Games hardsuits we'll never get.
Unless I want to make really big powered armour... anyone know how tall those two scales would make them out to be?

The 1/35 scale MAK suits (the "cheap" ones sold prepainted) look like this...
,,,next to 28mm figs. The pilot has been replaced with a West Wind miniatures 28mm fig. The creator has a few other shots of them here:
http://www.adpublishing.de/html/maschinenkrieger.html
The 1/20 ones are going to be a quite a bit bigger. Some hobbylink listings are saying 129mm (about 5 inches) in height, but I've never seen a comparison picture of the 1/20 alongside 1/35 or 28mm models.
Here's another guy
http://saskminigamer.blogspot.com/2011/01/giant-robot-madness.html
With the 1/35 next to 28mm mecha
Really looks like they'd be worth hunting down on the secondary market.
I'm kicking myself, b/c I remember when they were for sale and it was possible to get them for 3-6 bucks each or less!

In general, 28mm is supposed to be around 1/60 to 1/56 scale roughly according to the link below at TMP. While I don't know much about the maschinenkrieger models, there were VOTOM kits in 1/60 and also die cast metal toys as well. Those gashapon seem a bit smaller than that given the pic with the guardsmen next to them. http://theminiaturespage.com/ref/scales.html The human is supposed to fit comfortably in the chest of the VOTOM. Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm curious where he got those motive jet packs in the space picture as I haven't seen those on any gashapon in a google search I did yesterday.

The human is supposed to fit comfortably in the chest of the VOTOM.
The TMP page is true, but the fact is that most current "28mm models" are actually closer to 30mm and with proportions chunky enough that they could never fit in the cockpits or be able to move throuth the hatches of 1/60 or 1/56 scale models. Most 28mm models -even those that are not overly "heroic"- are as wide in the shoulders, wrists, legs, etc as a 1/48 scale model soldier. That's not a bad thing, it's just necessary to make the figures durable enough to survive the rigors of wargaming.
For example,,when doing post- apoc gaming, I opt for 1:48 or 1:43 scale cars. They are a bit too big, but when placed next to a 28mm soldier on a base, they look just right, and when I want to convert a figure to be sitting in the car, 28mm figs will actually fit inside, which is more than you can say for a 1/60 scale car. It doesn't hurt either that toy die-cast 1/43 cars and 1/48 trucks can be had quite cheaply.
Ironhands says that the Votom Gashapon toys are do not have a listed scale, but look aproximately 1/60. He's probably close to correct, but that's still going to to be too small to look perfect next to a 28mm figure. Still, they look good to me. If I were going to game Votoms, I'd probably opt for cheap Gashapon figs rather than more expensive model kits and toys.

According to his votoms figures page, some of the other bits are from gundam models. I don't know enough about Votoms or Gundam, but maybe they are also?

Damn you, you dirty stinkin' apes! You made me go spend money. I was perfectly content forgetting about VOTOM gashapon until this thread reminded me. I now have two Red Shoulder Customs that I plan on using as TAGs for my Cadian counts as Nomads Infinity force.
I have to say that I'm impressed with the poseability of these figures. They have probably around 20 different joints and moving parts which I definitely wasn't expecting. I figured that gashapon was pretty much a monopose cast in one way type of toy but I was very mistaken at least in this case. I can also use them for "big" 28mm Heavy Gear games using my smaller skirmish rules as well.

I scoured the internet and didn't find any places that had them in stock but got lucky on ebay and scooped up the last two that a seller had. There are still a bunch of sets there that have regular scopedogs but for both Infinity and Heavy Gear "counts as" reasons I was looking only for the custom models with the rocket packs.
