A few of us have it and have played it, but not much came of it.

From the description, it looks like it is multiplayer only. Sorry, I'll just stick with standard Warband and the Prophecy of Pendor mod.

Napoleonic Wars is awesome. I had a blast, but haven't touched it in months. I'd certainly be willing to show up for a game or two if a sizable number of Dakkanauts gets together.

I play it ALOT. I am currently part of the 88th york and usually face australians in line battles etc.

I would love to have a dragoon regiment under my command but I think I will wait until a sequel or something is made (if there is gonna be one).

But yes I play this a lot. Best FPS in my opinion haha.

I tried it, but vastly preferred base Warband.

Is there a reason people dont like the game?

3-5 times a week there are 200 (usually more) players willing to work together and follow rules to recreate battles of the period. Even though standing in huge lines is detrimental not beneficial. People actually give proper commands and people actually follow them. Tactics are used to counter enemy units and so forth.

There is nothing cooler than a game with no AI (I hate AI) that relies on team work between humans and it actually working.

I have had abttles where I was the only survivor from my line so the remnants of my nation formed a make shift line and did the whole first rank second rank fire (despite not being able to talk to each other) as we defended a well crafted fort the engineer made earlier. We died in a blaze of glory that day!

Aside from a few players, its the best community I have ever gamed with along with the game itself being amazing. A lot of tactics involved depending on what game type you play.

OP whats your steam name? I am a very different time zone but we may get some games in on commander battle etc one day.

Not enough freedom.

The highlight of my playing NW was picking up the enemy flag from a dead standard bearer, equipping it, then shutting myself inside an outhouse.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Well you get to choose one of many units and fight on a game type of your choice? I wouldnt say it has little freedom, but glory seeking is pretty hard now I think about it. Unlike other games you will not 30+ enemies on an average day regardless of class. Even though some matches last hours. But thats not what the game is about. Its about being one with your men.

I mean unless you want them to mess around with history and reality (its not like in other games where there are hundreds of weapons and clothing items for soldiers to choose from). Limits is what makes games fun (in my opinion). It also makes a lot more sense than most games.

So I guess its just the game type isnt appealing because of this. It was just a mod though, for the sake of gaining popularity it could be given a Native style treatment single player.

But there is lots to do, from being a flag hunter, musician, artillery gunner/loader and so on. No shortage of jobs and roles that need to be fulfilled for the good of the team.

The humility of the jobs not being glorified etc I guess can take some getting used to. Being the loader of a cannon isnt amazingly fun, but the job is very important for the efficiency of a cannon crew. But you can swap jobs every so often etc (another great thing about the community, very few hogs). Same with being a banner bearer or musician, its not a glorified job at all but its a job that helps the team overall.

Team work always wins in that game. Always.

There is nothing better than being in a marching band though. Playing in unison with an assortment of instruments. Knowing you are among the most wealthy and intelligent men on the battlefield (it takes a higher social class to play instruments back then) and most people respect musicians enough not to kill them till last. People marching together is also a nice site after hours of practice.

If a dakka regiment gets put together I am definitely in.

Swastakowey, where did you download the mod from? I want to get in on this Aussie v Kiwi battle if I can, it sounds like a good time. But you don't really just form lines right? I hope you have skirmishers out, etc, else that'll be pretty boring.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Its on steam as Napoleonic wars. I got mine for nearly nothing on steam sale. Its something that you have to buy but I feel its well worth the money.

My regiment trains as skirmish and line infantry while we have one arty crew (who are damn good). Skirmish need not be in lines to fire (which is a lot of fun). But we played cav a few times too. Its almost close to being historical reenactments.

My steam name is swastakowey if you wanna add me. We had a line battle last night but I could join for homely reasons. There may be one tonight and there is definitely one Sunday night. WHich is usually a full server. Very rarely are the servers not full when line battles start.

If you have any questions before you wanna buy it just let me know and ill try answer.

Does your regiment hold a Light Infantry Division?

We are simply choose well before a battle what role to fill. Sometimes it depends on the other regiments in the battle, sometimes it depends on the map. We are capable of playing as both.

So we are a flexible regiment ready to be whichever.

If that makes sense.

I getcha.

I finally entered the Regiment scene today with my first Official Regimental Linebattle with the 71st and many others. A huge change of pace from my solo Rifleman and Artillery sharpshooting. Was pretty fun.

I used to play commander battle almost exclusively until I stumbled into a line battle and saw people working together and engineers building proper defenses etc. Hooked from that day on.

Did you enjoy it?

Awesome dude. Tomorrow I have the day off, so in theory I may be on when you are. Maybe we can ignore the ping difference and have a game? (as you may have noticed we are on at vastly different times.)

I'm thinking about giving this a try. I've never played a Mount and Blade game but the Napoleonic mod looks interesting. Is it worth it? Do people still actually play and do line battles?

I remember there was a Revolutionary War mod for Half-Life awhile back that I thought looked cool, but everyone just ran around in circles trying to bayonet each other. It wasn't that cool.

Always servers online with heaps of people playing. I have 3 line battles a week with my regiment. Starting to get to know all the people (literally hundreds and hundreds in just Australasia) so yea I would say worth it.

You do get some trolls, but over all its pretty decent community wise.

In my opinion well worth the purchase.

If I want to participate in proper line battles is it pretty much necessary to join a regiment?

Sunday has public line battles in for our time zone. yours may well be the same. But its far easier to follow orders and so forth if you are in a regiment. Also makes it easier for the admins who moderate the battles etc.

Are there any particular regiments that are relatively well-known and have good reputations that might be worth looking into?

Well im not sure about your region. Our line battles are run by MOV (Men Of Valor Australia) which is all Australians.

In our area the 10th RM is definitely the biggest, but they are the most ill trained rabble I have ever witnessed. Huge bayonet charges randomly, human wave tactics, awful shooting etc.

The 88th York is known for its ability elite members and amazing arty shots. (The Regiment I am in). Smaller but pretty well trained.

4th RZ (I think?) are usually the riflemen, they are annoying as hell, usually get themselves killed.

There is heaps more, but your best bet, is to play a game, and look for someone with a tag in front of their name (mine for example is 88thYork_Mjr_Swastakowey) and ask to join the regiment. They will set you up on team speak and you will learn the ropes.

Depends on your area though I think.

Hordini,

I am in an active regiment that is pretty professional and chill. There are 70 people in the regiment, 20 people on average attend as the seasons change and people's schedules switch back and forth.
On the regiment I am Private Kommie and I am having a blast. We do a line battle every Tuesday @ 7pm EST, 4pm PDT and we do Thursday events as well. I am trying to get them to participate in the 77y Siege battles as well.

If you want to join, you can find them here:
http://71sthighlanders.enjin.com/home

As you would be new to the game and the regiment, I can "take you under my wing" and help teach you how to play on the 71st server over teamspeak. (Teamspeak 3 is a must, but free)

If you have questions, PM me here or you can PM your steam name and I can answer them.

Thanks,
DK
