I have some old Citadel paint that is dried out, what can I use to re-hydrate it?

I haven't had much luck yet trying to revive Citadel paints. If I catch it soon enough, I have had some luck with iso-alchohol, and Tamiya thinner. But once it gets too far dried out, it doesn't really like to come back to life at all. I haven't tried distilled water yet, that may be worth a try.

If it's still acting like a gel or thinner, it seems to come back ok. But once it starts to hold shape, that seems to be past the point of no return.

WHat I do is add water, shake it up a bit, and just try to mix it with something like a toothpick or rod.
Just keep working, the paint will absorb the water sooner or later if you force it.

Ive managed to save my Boltgun metal which was thicker than molasses and almost a solid.
And my dark angles green which was pretty bad.

Ive no experience with completely dried up paint.

I'm with Shadow_Strike, if the paint isn't totally gone you can break it up, add water, stir and shake for a bit and it should come back.  I've only declared one pot of Blood Red dead, which I chipped out and refilled with $0.99 red from Michael's  ...

While you're doing this, you may want to add a VERY TINY amount of something like Future Floor Wax.  I used a miniscule amount of Mr. Clean, and this seemed to help a bit.

As long as the paint is not completely bone dry, hot water, a toothpick, and vigorous shaking does the trick for me.

For the truly dead paints, I've thought of grinding up the dried mass of pigment with a mortar and pestle. I'm worried about ruining the stone with the pigment, so I've not actually gotten around to trying it.

for dried up paints, I take a hammer and bust it up in a bag, after doing this, I soak it in a very little watter, just enough tto make the dust semi mud, after it has sat for a few hours, I find 4 to be enough, I then work it with a toothpick and add more water till it starts to liquify back up, it takes some work, and after doing it a few times, I find it much more worth while to just go buy a new bottle of it.

I recently found out that car windshield liquid works blasting well.A couple of drops, shake and bake!
I used the stuff i found in my garage, namelly Volvo fluid.
Works also to strip paints off.

I'm with you.  Unless it's a custom color or an OOP paint (all my old Polly S paints **sniff**), I would rather pick out the old paint to use the jar as a mixing empty and buy a new one.

I've seen the Reaper Exarch with both weapon options and both look like things you can buy in sex shops. A weapon should not look like this, not even a Emperor's Children weapon. -Symbio Joe

Dude, if your paint is this far gone, just buy a new pot/tube/whatever of paint and toss the old one.  Seriously, your figures will thank you.

Not the figure you had to leave on the shelf and not give a good home to 'cause you had to spend your dough on new paint!

I just can't stand it when they are hanging there in their lonely blisters, staring at me with their big puppy-dog eyes....

Spending some time on rejuvenating old paint is a small price to pay to save one lonely blister pack from the horrors of euthanization.

Zvannah the Old Witch of Khador does that to me.
I get kinda creeped out. So I walk over to the ork section.
And theres that special spot with "Space Ork Boyz" there. But no "Space Ork Boyz" to buy!

But yeah, Id suggest buying a new paint pot. I dont have a car so I have to try and revitalize paints or else Im stuck with dead paints for a week or so.
