Ladies and Gentlemen I would like to welcome you to the 3rd annual Nerdcademy award painting competition

after the roaring success of the two previous years I have pulled together enough prizes and judges to continue for another year. This year I wanted to try and again push some ideas and techniques that will encourage and produce some models that are totally different to the 'norm'

so without further ado the theme for this years comp is 'Sin City' now before you rush off to scout for Bruce Willis and Jessica Alba models what we're looking for is the 'idea' behind the cult look the film produces, so what that means is this: you may choose ONE model on a base up to 50mm that comes from the world of Warhammer 40K this can be any race. you may base the model or convert it as you see fit. now comes the important part so listen carefully Painting of the model MUST be done in a grey scale palette, so only any shades between white and black may be used on the model EXCEPT for ONE part of the entire model (the base is included in the term entire model) and this part you may use a spot colour as per the movie Sin City. so be selective and be creative and have fun with it. (any questions will be answered in the thread as we go along)

O.k, so judging will be based on the same formula as last year,

Build (100 points)
- quality of build (i.e, neatness) (30 points)
-adherence to theme (30 points)
-conversions/kitbashing (20 points)
-appropriate posing (20 points)

Painting (100 points)
-neatness (25 points)
-use of advanced techniques (25 points)
-overall effect & look (50 points)

Basing (30 points)
-theme/appropriateness to figure (10 points)
-build/customization (10 points)
-painting (10 points)

Overall impression of miniature (50 points)

Judging will be conducted by myself along with two stalwart veterans of the Dakasphere! the ever present MOD Whalemusic360 and everybody's favorite Gitsplitta a big round of applause please!

the competition will run from now until the 6th October Aus time

Now for the prizes! lets start with 1st place, I wanted to really do something Nerdingly different and had a mate scan my head and do a 3D print of me I then painted it up and now we have a distinguished and very unique trophy for the lucky winner! as well as a model for them to hone their skills on & something to listen to while doing it!






2nd prize will see the lucky winner receive a couple of box sets of models to light the fuse to paint!



and now for what some see as the prize to end all prizes it's another of 'Nerds Nudes' this is spoilered and nsfw (or anyone's eyes really!) you receive a framed copy right to your door!

As for third place, well that is just terrifying. Fantastically terrifying!

Oh man. This may be the craziest thing I've ever built...

I don't think a parts shot is needed, but maybe a shot assembled before priming I doubt anybody has a suitable model already painted

My modelling seems fairly... 40Kish with a lean toward desperate heroism which may fall into the right catagory. I think it'll be the painting that makes or breaks the model. I had to disguard my favourite head because it demanded the spot colour be there rather than where I actually wanted it.
