Turning this

Spoiler:

http://www.containerstore.com/shop/collections/hobby?productId=10028178&N=229

into this

Spoiler:

These are plastic boxes from the container store. They are about $5.00 each. Since the photo I’ve added some weathering to the buildings.

Step 1: Turn lid over and glue down if you wish.
Step 2: Place labels on box to mask off windows
Step 3: Spray paint with choice of color. Better to use a primer that adheres to plastic first or just use a spray made for painting plastic. We used basic spray cans of paint from Home Depot.
Step 4: Tape off inside rim of the roof/lid
Step 5: Spray inside with textured paint from the store.
Step 6: Gently remove roof and window masks.
Step 7: Play

Very nice! My only suggestion would be to add some kind of ladders/fire escapes & maybe catwalks interconnecting the buildings. Maybe not on all the apartment buildings, but a couple of them, for variety's sake.

Nice and resourceful. Might try this, or do something similar.

Also you can do some amazing stuff simply with a sheet of 1/8" MDF from Home Depot (less than $10) and a coping saw ($6). If you don't have clamps, getting a couple clamps to hold down the MDF while you cut with the coping saw is needed.

Then it is just a matter of tracing or designing a pattern and simply cut with the coping saw which cuts through it smoothly. Glue together, primer and paint.

One sheet of MDF can build 2-6 buildings depending on the design and how many levels you make it.

Totally agree DS but sounds like work lol. I like a good lazy way.

I'll try to get new pics soon. I used the airbrush for that. Used a bit of brown under roof and bit at the bottom to look dirty.

We do have some ladders and things but not ones that we made. We combine a lot with stuff from Warsenal, Sarisa, and Micro Arts.

Edit: forgot to mention. These buildings line up fantastically with Micro Arts Stairways!
