Looking for any warhammer 40k players in Jersey and also asking the question; where are the spots to be at?

I picked up 40k about ten years ago for the first time but slowly fell out of the loop. I picked it up again a bit after high school and have been building my army(IG/Astra Militarum) since.

Some of the locations I've heard of, and plan to check out soon, include Gamer's Gambit, Maplewood Hobbies, and Hobbytown. Does anyone frequent these locations and, if so, how many players usually show up? What days are hot? And what is the general point limit?

The places you mentioned have varying 40k nights. There is also Family Fun Hobbies in Hightstown as well. I guess it all depends on your location. Also there is apparently a spot down in Howell that is a arcade/table top place, but I don't know the name of it.

When I have gone, typically I bring 1500 points worth of an army to be safe.

Thanks for the info, I definitely plan to check out the game nights sometime within the next couple months. The only thing that's stopping me would be the fact that my army is only about 550 pts at the moment. Do they retail 40k at most and/or all of these places?

Hello, I have been gaming in NJ for the past 6 years, depending on where you live it could be a trek. I have been down to gamers gambit, it's a great store it's gravitas heavily toward warma/hordes not sure if 40k still has a following anymore. Hobbytown in Newton was where I spent a lot of time in the past but don't bother with it now, there is no gaming community there anymore. Mighty Titans closed last year which was a bummer. I game at The Dragon's Lair in Newton, it's right across from the college on Mill St. It's a small shop but they just started stocking 40k and I am pushing for a community there. We are going to have an open day and painting contest on Nov 8th.

Newton is about an hour and a half from me. If you do manage to rouse the gaming community and develop specific game days for campaigns, nights and so on, I'll probably take a hike up there once or twice a month.

Gamer's gambit and elite battleground are the two I'm most likely going to spend some time at just to get a view of the scene.

Where in NJ are you? there are a couple of stores down by me in South Jersey that both have a 40k following.

Jesters Playhouse is in the Northfield area, about 10 minutes out of Atlantic City.
AetherStorm Games is where I typically hang, its in Cape May, about 1/2 mile from the ferry.
I know at Aetherstorm, there are gamers that will play anything from 500 point skirmish all the way up to and including Apoc type games.

I'm from central NJ around the Sayreville area which is about an hour and a half from Atlantic City but, as I mentioned before, I would definitely be willing to hike down for a game day.

Family Fun Hobbies is a pretty decent store over in Hamilton area. I am in Freehold, I just wish we had a more local store.

Apparently hobbymasters in Red Bank is the place to go on Wednesdays and Fridays.

I haven't gone on a game night yet but they've got a cool store in a nice location with a large selection of product. I do plan to check it out one of these days though.

Family Fun Hobbies has a friendly gaming community. There night for war gaming is Monday. Space is limited so they tend to play 750 point games.

Has Hobby Masters improved? I haven't been there in many years and that was because the last time I was there the 40k selection was nearly non existent and they had a single gaming table that saw so little use it was filled with random stock from the store.

East Coast Gamers recently re-opened after there store burned down. They are located in Toms River. I haven't checked them out yet but hope to soon.

Not sure if OP is still watching the thread but this Saturday there is going to be a mega battle at the dragons lair in Newton, we should have a decent turnout if you are looking for a casual game with 1850 pt lists.

Also not sure if anyone was updated but gamers gambit went out of business in October and Hobby Town (not that anyone cares about that miserable shack) is moving to a smaller location in byram.

I have been to Family Fun Hobbies a few times, seems a little cramped, but the group was nice. I need to get updated with the rules a bit before I attempt to venture out, don't want to bog down a "pro" with my Spanish inquisition style of playing!

Hobby Masters is an odd-place. They do quite a bit of MTG, but the only 40k, I have seen has been on plain folding tables with no terrain, and it typically hidden in the back of the store, also not to mention their absurd 40k pricing!

I'm stuck in the same boat as you. I haven't played a game in over a year, but that's not stopping me from playing an apoc game this Saturday at Outside the Box Games. It's nice returning after being away for a while. Everything is fresh again.

I would but my work schedule is extremely unforgiving and my days off are usually only Sunday and Monday. Things should shake up in the next few months and hopefully I'll be able to make a pilgrimage there.

Still probably a bit of a hike for you is The Only Game in Town (TOGiT) in Somerville. Popped in there a couple times and it seems pretty busy. Apparently their crowd is pretty competitive and they do 40k on Wednesdays with bigger events on weekends occasionally. Good selection of merch too just don't expect a discount. If you are up for a Sunday game let me know. I don't mind small games. Let's me try out my new army too.

If you are interested, I know Hobby Masters has a slowly growing warhammer community. I'm over in Eatontown, and have been dying for a game. They do open gaming Wednesday nights, and have a full tourney legal warhammer table. If you're interested in playing one night, PM me and we'll get in touch.

They mostly have card games, but they do have tables for battles and plenty of scenery to use. I enjoy going there.

Hey guys,

NJgamer tells me that the only places near me are Hobbytown in Newton (1 and 1/2 hours from me) and HobbyMasters in Red Bank is still to confirm that they have 40k games on certain days. Will update with more information as I get it but I am looking for a good store with a cool community.

Hobby Masters does have 40k, and a pretty decent following from what I gather. I have recently started playing with a buddy at Gamer's Realm in East Windsor. Pretty big place, and lots of room for games, just really no GW product.

Hobby town in Newton is no longer there, due to rent problems they moved over to Byram, they don't do any 40k events and I'm not sure if they have product left, they stopped carrying it a while back.
Dragon's lair in Newton is doing well, we have an event on the 18th if you are interested, the info is on their FB page and website. There is also Markorama games in franklin but they keep running into finical problems so the store may not be there for much longer.

Bump for relevance... Does anybody know what days Hobby Masters has 40k nights and/or is anyone going?

Weds at Hobby Masters is 40k, never been, but still curious. I am just getting back into 40k, and relearning the rules so until I feel 100% confident I won't be leaving my own private gaming table. Family Fun Hobbies does 40k on Monday nights, and Gamer's Realm does it on Weds or Thursday, although they don't have a designated night for it.

Let me know if you're going up one night and I should be able to as well, work permitting. I haven't played in years myself and, just like you, I just picked up the 7th edition a few months ago. The rules are mostly the same save for the psychic phase (though I've limited my army in psykers because of this fact) and I've always been shaky on the assault phase, though I've been studying up on it quite a bit lately.

Also, my army has taken shape in the form of a 1000 pt Imperial Guard army and growing, plus a couple of my buddies wanted to get back into playing as well where their skill level is the same as yours and mine.

I have been playing at home with a buddy who is recently into it as well. He is still quite new, but we are both avoiding the psychic phase as well. The rules seem a bit more streamlined, but still new things take time.

I would if it weren't for work today. I heard there is a pretty good following there. There aren't many places that still carry GW products as well as having events.
