I need to ask for some help from finer minds than mine. I am a painter rather than gamer, because I love painting, and have no-one currently to play with! My son is 2, and I have given myself a long project so that I have a focus for my painting and create the opportunity for possibilities in the future.
What I would like to do is to paint a few armies up in time for him to be able to play with me in the future. I have little time for painting at the moment so this is going to be a long project and I give myself about five years to get it done. What I wold like is suggestions of 1000ish points armies for 40k. I only really need to know which units I should put in rather than specific weapon options and so on, with an approximate points cost for each unit. The reason for this is that in five years time the army lists and points costs may well have changed and then hopefully I will have at least a rougly correct force to game with, possibly with only a few models needed at that tie to make them game legal. The lists don't need to be tournament winning, just playable.
If possible I would like suggestions for orks, space wolves, tyranids, tau and demons, beacuse these five are what I would like to paint.
If it helps, what I am looking for is a list if what I need to buy, roughly how many points this would be, and any specifics for assembly that I would then need. They can be a little over 1000 points if necessary.
