I don't know how true these rumours are, but we'll have to wait and see. If there are new sculpts, I'll be all over the Chaos box, but if not, I won't. I don't really need another Land Raider, but I always need more diversity in my infantry.

Crimson Slaughter - A Dark Vengeance Expansion Set $127 approx Includes 5 Cultists, 5 Chaos Terminators, 5 Raptors, 1 Land Raider.
Dark Angels - A Dark Vengeance Expansion Set $136 approx Includes a Ravenwing Command Squad, 5 Deathwing Knights and a Dark Talon

They're basically themed battleforces with no new models. The savings aren't bad though - you're essentially getting the Raptors and cultists for free with the Chaos one.

I think it's a good idea in time for Christmas.
Father Xmas gives DV set.
Grandma and Grandpa give the expansion set for DA.
Younger brothers and pets give the expansion set for CS.
Little sister misses the point entirely and gives you something you never want and starts going out with a biker at the age of 16.

Edit for completion.
CS Expansion £80
DA Expansio. £85

Runnin up on ya.

It's not a bad idea. Start with Dark Vengeance then GW guides you towards a regular sized army by adding expansion sets that add to the campaign.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Problem is, it's only a savings for people who want dark angel flyers or chaos raptors...

Hmm, that DA one is a bit, well, crap. While everything in there is a cool model, the Ravenwing squad and Nephilim are so overpriced to start (cash wise) with that even the savings don't really make them more attractive.

They missed a trick here, especially with the Chaos; new plastics in the DV style for Terminators and they'd be flying off the shelves!

Can't wait to see what my goldfish will get me.

But it's too expensive, compared to Dark Vengeance itself. Someone who has just spend 90 euro on the starterkit, isn't going to spend another ~100 euros on a battleforce. He first would need to buy a codex!

yeah,
The savings are good but the unit choices are strange.

Chaos Space Marines Land Raider £46.00 Chaos Space Marines Terminators £28.00
Raptors £21.00 Cultists £6.00
Subtotal£101.00
£21 saved...

But dark vengence player wil already have
1 lord, 6 choosen, helbrute and 20 cultists

What I think they need is some regular CSM or Cult Marines and maybe a rhino and helldrake?

I would have made it
Heldrake £45
Chaos Space Marines £23.50
Chaos Space Marines Rhino £23.50
£92
(make it £70 as the bundle!?)

and both forces have fliers...

Panic...

Yeah, they aren't the best sets. OTOH, a set with little saving is always better than no saving at all.

Isn't including sub-par units the point though?

The starter set is aimed at novices, (happy days if some vets pick it up for the models), these expansions will be aimed at those same people and hoping that they are unaware of or insufficiently experienced to care about some of the units not being the best or most cost-effective (money or points) way of building up their army. In the process GW get to wash their hands of sprues taking up warehouse space.

The pics say that they include the rules. I wonder how far you can go without a code these days...

Well, if nothing else, the practice of releasing box sets with a little saving off the RRP is to be applauded. Eager to see what the BA vs Tyranid box turns out to be.
My cousin is happy about this DA set, he's been hankering for that flyer.

Maybe not the best choices gameplay wise, but all the models in the Dark Angels set are top notch stuff. The Deathwing Command is I think one of the best boxes overall, with its ability to make Deathwing command squads, Knights, or regular Deathwing Terminators, with plenty of options.

Good idea, I suppose. And good to see savings included. If I was still interested in 40K as a game, I would probably buy the chaos one. As it stands, if the rules get better somehow, it might become a good deal.

If the heavy weapon cultists were in there, I'd be on this for sure. Just love that model and would like to have a few more.

QFT! I've been slowly converting a set from the DV models, and seeing a kit start with raptor/chosen-style termies would be great.

Thing is I have been looking to expand my DV Chaos force so with 10-15% off at an online retailer (assuming these sets reach them) the Chaos set is a no-brainer for me as they were all units that I would pick up individually anyway.

No new models? I won't be buying this then. While the savings are good, I'd rather spend the money on models that I don't already have. But one day, I will collect Dark Angels, and I hope this box is still around.

Yeah they would, but this is a really easy way to move existing product without doing much more work. If they do another starter set in the future that way then that'd make sense and I'd be all over it. I wonder how these sets that actually provide a savings have been selling - I hope they're doing well so GW keeps doing them.

Purely anecdotal, but the SW/Ork one sold out locally (granted, my FLGS only got two, and there were 6 total for an area of 7 million), and the boxed sets have moved product which otherwise wouldn't; the Flash Gitz set with Badrukk and the grots has been sold and restocked a few times, whereas the original massively overpriced boxes remain untouched, and the SM Strike Force has proven popular, especially with new players regardless of their preference in Marine colours.

Meanwhile, the store still has several old battleforces; they certainly aren't moving in any circles i know of.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Sure, but that's true to any Battleforce or boxed set.
Though really, the composition of the DA box is pretty crappy way to build on to DV force. More bikes, Termies and a bad flyer? It's basically "Collection of DA Models Which Won't Sell Otherwise". Chaos box is better.

I can't help but think that GW would have sold far more of these if they had released them, oh, around the same time as Dark Vengeance itself and the Dark Angels and Chaos Marines codexes.

Stormclaw is sold out within a week, in all of the FLGS in my area except one (which still has stock at nearly retail list). I never played Space Wolves, and haven't played Orks in... 15 years? but I bought two Stormclaw boxes. It was only $125 in my area, and when I popped it open, I looked at the sprues, and said, whoa... gotta get another!

Of course, now I have two untouched Stormclaw boxes, except that I gave away the mini rulebooks lol. But I blame that on Space Hulk.. I wanted to paint that much more

I'm just sad because I bought EXACTLY this trio of units for my own fledgling Dark Angels force (from DV) this past summer, and they are in my closet waiting for Christmas as we speak.

So I would have appreciated the savings, to be sure.
