So, I'd like to build both the Mucolid and the Tyrannocyte from the Tyrannocyte kit.
Based on the standard kit you can't build both, but there has to be a way to do it. Has anyone here had any thoughts?

It's quite easy imho.
There'll be a bit #47 which is a tentacle that connects from the model to the base. Use that to keep the Mucolid upright since it's the central tentacle. All other mutually exclusive bits go on the tyrannocyte. There'll be 2 tentacles left to go on the mucolid.
For aesthetics, you can buy some greenstuff and mold some tentacles but I think it looked decent enough without it. You can at least make stable, playable models without using it.

Just don't build the Tyrannocyte up on the tentacles, I built mine like it's in the ground. Other than that, the only difference is the piece that fits into the top.

This. I'm tempted to just build it as a Sporocyst and count it as a Tyrannocyte anyway, because I think the spindly little tentacles look extremely silly and easy to break... but the issue this creates is that becomes much easier to get cover and stay out of LOS... I think that, if/when I get one, I'll raise the Sporocyst/Tyrannocyte's profile with foam on the base, like a hill or something, to compensate for the loss in height.

To be fair it's only a 2" height loss, so as long as you give your opponent the benefit of the doubt it should be good. And really it works both ways, you are just loosing 2" of LOS blocking cover for your own units.

What did you guys smoke? The sporocyte is WAY smaller than the Tyrannocyte, about 1/3 of its size.

I'd be more concerned about losing the +2" of LOS for the Tyrannocyte's guns, but even then, I'd still want to compensate for the difference. 2" is pretty significant and I'd understand if opponents took issue with an unmodified counts-as.

I did this too. It's a pain in the ass to transport multiple Tyrannocytes all built at full size - Tyranids aren't the most efficient army for packing safely to begin with. I'm actually working on 3 different poses for mine:
1) Glued directly on the base with the tiny little tentacles in place of the normal ones, plus the longer side tentacles pointing straight down in contact with the base for extra support.
2) Floating on 3 small flying bases attached to the main base, at a sideways angle. I figured the sarlacc pit on the top has to be used for eating something other than dumb stormboyz, so it'll be posed as if if to grab infantry from the ground and swallow them whole..
3) Landed in a crater and disgorging some units.
And I'm thrilled to say I won't get any hassle over 'modelling for advantage' or other such nonsense, because everyone at my local club is awesome and the Rule of Cool is rule #1.

The Tyrannocyte and the Sporocyst are roughly the same size and use about 90% of the same parts. It's the Mucolid Spore that's smaller.

Seriously, look at the photos of them - the Tyrannocyte has a whole additional bit on its base, making it longer, and then the tentacles extend it even more. I'd say 33% bigger is a conservative estimate.
Of course, the Sporocyst is also wider so you might get a bit of leeway if you don't make it the exact height, but I'd try to compensate somewhat at least.

You obviously haven't seen either of those models IRL. The tyrannocyte is the sporocyte glued on top of a big part.
Please tell me how THIS is even remotely 'about the same size. It's almost 5 inches difference, and FYI the sporocyte is only 4 inches high.
Ok so it's 1/2 instead of 1/3, but don't tell me it's 'roughly the same size' because that would be like saying a land raider is 'roughly the same size as a baneblade'

Highly depends on how you model it. Having the open carpace on the Tyrannocyte is legal aswell and represents the Tyrannocyte slowing down during planetfall.

Here's two of my WIP pods. The upright one is still plenty big enough to see (standing at over 6 inches) and is a fair bit more durable too.
For the floating one I found the funnels on the side fit a flying base perfectly, so I only need to make one more hole for another one and it becomes stable. I still need to dig out a spare marine and model the arms around the unfortunate morsel.
The final Tyrannocyte will be done when I can get a spare crater, and will be positioned at an angle unloading a bunch of spare gaunts + stealers.

So you still took off 1/3 off the model height and consider it 'roughly the same height'?
I like the way you modelled it from an aesthetic point of view, but there are some serious problems gameplaywise.
The things that immediately spring to mind are the position of the guns, because you have to measure on a gun-by-gun basis and the height obviously.

It's a Monsterous Creature, so ranges are measured from it's base.

Now this is incorrect. That is the case for a vehicle, but from a non-vehicle model you measure its LOS from its "eyes". This obviously doesn't have eyes though, so it's probably more-or-less from the top where the mouth is. The dynamic one would definitely need to compensate for the rule of cool though.

The part I have emphasised is no longer true in 7th. They now just measure line of sight from anywhere on the models body.

Ah ok, I knew I should have double-checked the rulebook to make extra sure. That's kind of insane though for such a tall model.

It's also mad that a space marine can shoot you with it toe pointing out from behind cover.
Anyway back on topic... Does anyone have an effective way of building a base up by 2"?

Foam, green stuff, pie plates, etc. I'd probably just try to make it look like the pod is resting on a crater or a hill. No need to make it the exact height of a Mucloid, but as long as it's close I'd be fine with it, personally.
