I have previously backed his products when he did Underground Lasers 2. He has done some great looking terrain, fairly decent price, easy to assemble (some glue required) and paints up really well. He just recently launched a new KS for his armored outpost for 28mm terrain. You can check out the rest of his stuff at his website if you wanted to order some to try before committing, he has been pretty good about shipments when I've previously ordered from him. He has terrain for 28mm as well as some for 285th scale as well.
Was going to wait till Dave finished painting a few more but.... Damn this boy can paint! Here is Dave Montalvans blog, he is the official UL House painter. He will start putting up pictures in the next few days. And now pictures of painted terrain!!!!
Here we go again!!!
We have some new interesting pieces of terrain I want to share with all of you and could use some help before we go into full production.
Most of the Medium Density Fibreboard terrain out there consists of straight line boxes and is limited in what you can do for your gaming layouts.
So we are going to try and spice it up a bit with some fresh angles.
- I gave designed this set to go back to the roots of the 1st Kickstarter we ran 2 years ago, these platforms are made so they can be taken apart and stored flat.
- All the columns are reinforced with 3 layers of MDF so they won't snap and will support any heavy miniatures you wish to put on top.
- The side short walls are made so they pop out so you can plug in Full walls, walkways and other accessories (full walls and other things will appear as unlocks later on)
More Items will be revealed as this Kickstarter moves along in the next month and we are very exited about these kits and it has performed really well under fire.
About delivery for this Kickstarter, we are going to try something new. I will be shipping the pledges in order of when your pledge was made and will start shipping on January of 2015. Planning on shipping 20 pledges per month so we might end before or after October depending on how many orders we get, there is only 1 pledge level.

If you don't want the pole you can use the base as a 28mm base for one of your miniatures.
Speaking of bases, since they hit their 400th follower on Facebook, he is giving out 10x 25mm bases to every pledge of $30 and above. Use them to base your miniatures or glue them to terrain!!!

Really like the look of the pieces, it's a shame that I missed the last one, some of that would have been perfect for what I'm after.
I really like that he's breaking MDF's right angle rules, I was beginning to think that the first casualties of all future wars were and vaguely circular objects that were not made of Pringle cans.

You can actually message him from his website or even from the KS campaign. I'm not sure of the pricing, but he has previously invoiced, package and shipped out some. I needed to expand a previous order and didn't have any issues. They aren't added to his store yet, although that could of been changed as well soon I'm sure.
Website is an issue. True. Pretty sure this is one of those one-man operations, and so there is likely to be a weak spot somewhere.
That said, I have a lot of stuff from KS1 and love it. There's definitely good innovation and quality cuts for his products. I recommend the company highly.
I think there's a significant error in the simplicity of the KS though. With only the $25 pledge available, with add-ons self selected, I think people are offering low amounts and therefore limiting the total of KS. Highly recommended. Get out these and pledge!
-Yep, almost a 1 man operation, wife helps by dropping off the boxes at the post office, got 2 guys doing drawings for me in exchange of terrain and I finally got 1 guy doing great paint jobs for free terrain as well.
- I wanted to make sure all backers of Kickstarter 2 had their stuff and were happy and settled down before posting the items at the webstore.
- Starting the first week of January the website will be re organised and will have some of the KSII items with more to come. some won't make it because not enough interest or were not efficient or cost effective. BUT the train will show up in the first week.
-The low kickstarter pledge level has hurt a bit and I am bellow the numbers in dollars from the last one But I am close to the same number of backers. the numbers should start going up in the next couple of weeks. I like the way this one is going, is a nice steady run with no crazy fluctuations also I am not looking to Blow up on my runs, Hell anything above 20K would slow down my retail production. And I rather spend extra time creating the next new project than to be tied up for 1 year+ burning the same thing.
a potato salad situation would send me to the hospital =)
- As far as constant KS runs I am looking at them as ways to introduce new types of terrain, get some great feedback and get better every time. After this one ends and ships there might be a 4th one but not for another year or so.
That is it guys, thanks for the feedback and keep it coming.
"building terrain and not painting miniatures since 2012"
Oh and by the way, I may seem overly critical, but I actually have a lot of their terrain.
Which is why I was so annoyed to see better looking stuff on the kickstarters, I would have ordered that stuff instead.
For this latest thing, I could actually do without the hex patterns on everything, maybe just the panel outline. That would save a lot of laser etching time.
Welp, I was going to try to sneak in near the end of this one to pick up some of the cheaper blank options and add mroe to my UGL terrain collection.
Unfortunately the universe decided that my wife didn't need her job any more right before the holidays :(
For those of you looking at this, the UGL stuff if good. I have items from the first 2 KS, and both are great! They get lots of looks every time I take them to the stores.

Occasional ramblings about painting and modelling.
I had hope to burn this and more prototypes Last Sunday but things happen. I donated most of the the earlier versions to our local gaming store for them to try out under more harsh conditions so right now I am focusing on burning replacements for more pictures.
Anyway
The mechanical resonance drill also known as "Mr Drill" fits on all the platforms with a large circle hole. so far you have seen the large hexagon and the double tier large hexagon. but there is also a stand alone platform that will appear later on and is know as the Mechanical resonance cannon.
Once I have a 2 Tier large hex building I'll take shots with the drill in place.
Temporary picture till a burn a new building prototype
There is a green acrylic rod in the center holding the drill head
Update #9: Perimeter wall upgrade and new half container for hex containers
The Bunker I have been working on is not there yet. It was ready to go at the start of the kickstarter but thanks to the feedback I have gotten so far changes had to be made so everything fits correctly.
So the Bunkers get a push to the 4th week, But I want to show something so I'll move the Items I had planed for that week to now
I upgraded the old Slanted perimeter walls to work with the new platforms and clip on walls, the angle is the same but the are now 5" instead of 6" long, now there is more room for a beacon array.
These walls will work just fine with the old slanted walls so you can mix and match
Hex cargo container news
The half hex container for stacking the hex containers was going to be an added stretch goal to that kit but might as well add it in now. You get 1 half hex container for every 2 Hex container kit you buy.
Pictures of the new walls interaction with the platforms on tomorrows update.
53 hours left to go with only $1389 needed to fund. He already has the equipment, fulfilled 2 Kickstarters already and will start shipping as early as Janurary 2015 (orders fulfilled in pledge order). When he reaches funding backers on top of whatever options they choose get the following thrown in for free as well:
- $30 pledges or more receive 1 free Hexagon container.
- Another free Hexagon container.
- Free half Hexagon container.
- $200 or more pledges receive $30 dollar Option 100 platform for free.
- Ammo Crates, these will fill empty space on the MDF sheets. He likes to use all available space when he can and hates wasting it
- 10x 25mm bases, can be used for basing miniatures or glues to terrain for added textures.
Update #11 : Small Update. Stretch goal update!!!
Things have been quiet due to the holidays BUT I have been busy.
I am in the process of streamlining most of the sheets for the kickstarter and trying to add a few things where I can
Example:
Option 201: Large gate - Losses a clip-on wall and gains a full ladder like the one on the platforms.
I'll try and add Underground lasers ammo boxes where I can
I was hoping to show a few more things but it looks like we are not going to hit the stretch goals above 10K
And now for the good news
Stretch goals 7K, 8K and 9K build up to Option 113, as long as we hit funding by Monday all pledges 30 dollars and above unlock this as of today!!!
also for every 10 dollars you spend I'll throw in a free 1" MDF base in addition to the 10 you already get. You can glue them to terrain to add a bit more flash to your terrain pieces.
Happy holidays!
Update #12: The "Am I worried?" Update... Now with more free stuff!!!
Alright looks like some people are waiting to see what special deal I can come up with for the end of the campaign.
well here you go.
Every one that pledges 200 dollars or more will receive for free
So make sure you up your pledges now so you guys don't loose out on this great deal!!!
