Would you recommend infinity for gaming club?
I'm starting one on my campus, and people really dig the idea of sci-fi skirmish.
I'm sure you get these all the time, so I'll try not to be a run of the mill pain in the ass with my questions
What is the buy-in for a decent starting force?
How detailed are the models, and how hard are they to paint? (I deal solely in plastics, and small scale stuff)
Is it a good system for a campaign?
Is the game hard to learn?
Let me know
Thanks
Austin

I think Infinity is great for a gaming club especially with the new ruleset coming out and the RPG coming out.
Get together with a friend and get Operation: Icestorm, split the cost and that gets you guys started. Normally though starting out can be anywhere from 6-14 miniatures (depending on points) and can cost $50-150 to get everything you need.
They are highly detailed and paint really nicely. They do have campaigns but it is also easy to create your own once you get the hang of the game mechanics. Overal if you start out with the starter above, it will make learning it easy. Play through the scenarios until you have learned them down pat, then when N3 comes out you can learn more things to add onto them.
I will say that terrain is important to this game more than any other game. There is a certain art to making sure the table is laid out properly to make the gameplay fun, proper and engaging. If it is too sparse then it can be one sided.

$40-$50 per starter or if you can get your hands on an Op Ice Storm box about $100 for a two player starter

The newer stuff is very detailed, older less so. As for painting depends on skill, but I find that if you know the basics then the details help you a lot.
Is it a good system for a campaign?
The Campaign Paradise book just so happens to have a campaign system.
Is the game hard to learn?
General answer here is Yes.

Yeah it a good game you just have to be willing to invest in some terrain. Operation: Icestrom is a good buy and the quick-start rules in it have 5 missions to teach you the core game concepts. All other rules build off them.
For a 300pts list the standerd size game, it cost around 100 to 150 bucks. Give or take depending on models picked, TAGs and multi model units can raise the price fast and army concept hoard style army 16-20ish units would cost more, while a elite army (normal a bad idea as more unit means more Orders and Orders=Options) woulf be cheaper.
Campaign Paradiso has a OK campaign, but what it does really great is give you the base for creating your own campaign and XP rules for army wide upgrades and Spec-Op upgrades (only Spec-Ops can gain XP and only 1 per army).
That said the rules online right now are 2nd edtion and it will be a 2-3 month wait for the 3rd edtion rules to be put online but the updated profiles will be up around the first of the year (all for free).
Hope you enjoy.

Like the above, the new 2 player starter is great for what you get.
The detail is some of the best on the market, so even if your not a great painter, base colors a wash and some highlights and it looks great.
I would start at trying to hit that 150pt mark in the beginning, so most starter boxes get this. As you learn it, get to 300pts and try to get 10 orders. I find that to make your force pretty balanced.
Game is hard but easy at the same time. There's a lot of little things, but over all the stuff for 3rd edition in the new book is streamlining the rules. At the very least see if you can get an extra book someone has.
Terrain is a must, but can cost you tons more then the models. I went the cheap route and ordered 3 extra sets of icestorm terrain. Gives you buildings and crates and you fold together in a few steps. Sturdy and very cheap. Also it looks good.

Next question:
Does anybody have any models they don't want?
Thanks

Best bet is to ask in the swap shop or bartertown. Say your looking for anything infinity and for starters or small starting forces for around 50-60$ Usually in a few days youll get a few messages

What two factions do you recommend to start with?
I would like to get icestorm.... but I know I'd get PanO.... and they don't seem like my cup of tea.
Thanks

Id figure the one and only issue with infinity is the terrain as you need quite a bit of it.
The models can be acquired by the participants and shouldn't be all that much of an investment.
