Found this on Kickstarter and really love the idea of this game. Thought I'd share it here and see if it might be in anyone else's wheelhouse. Basically, you trick out your favorite matchbox/Hotwheels car 'Road Warrior/Mad Max/Deathrace' style and face off against opponents using a card-based maneuver/combat system. The kickstarter page explains it better than I can...I'm in for $75 to get all of the unlocks including a campaign system stretch goal that was just reached. The designer, Gregg, has had a version of this game available for Print and Play for a few years now...this kickstarter finally gets it onto some proper boardgame quality cards and tokens, and adds a ton of expansion decks. Check it out.

"Outrider is a game of post-apocalyptic vehicular combat set in a futuristic, western dystopia where 21st century cowboys called 'Outriders' provide safe passage across the forgotten highways of the southwest, while trying to stay one step ahead of raiding parties and the long arm of the law.

Teachable in minutes, Outrider sets up fast and plays fast, while retaining a high level of customizable detail. Using a unique blend of dice, card, point allocation and press-your-luck mechanics, Outrider has creates a fun, engaging balance of tactics and risk. Outrider has attracted gamers from all walks of life. Hardcore wargamers, casual (gateway) gamers and kids of all ages are caught by its approachable mechanics and visual 'curb appeal.'

Designed with scalability in mind, Outrider supports 2-8 players, right out of the box. Game types can range from quick free-for-alls, using just the base deck at the coffee shop or they can be scenario-based, team games played with terrain and miniatures (in the form of 64th scale diecast cars). Beer and pretzels not included."

Runnin up on ya.

Looking at that just made me want to play CarWars again...ah memories.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

It sounds like the base game should and is $40 but it isn't technically speaking. It is the one thing I don't like unfortunately, it feels like to get the full range of this game you have to add the additional add-on but it doesn't exactly let you know how many or which ones you need. I'm talking about:

Extra Maneuver Deck: Is this really needed, will the game take advantage of it and do you need one or do you need one per player?

Passive Aggressive Deck, Auxiliary Weapon Deck and Contact Weapon Deck: Now it seems like we're talking some deck building rules. But this deck isn't listed as coming with the box, so another edition and does that mean I need 8 if I was planning 8 player game?

Terrain Tiles: Am I going to need more to play a game, how big of a play space do the current tiles take up? It doesn't seem to have that on the front page. It seems like I would want more than just 12 tiles to play.

Full disclosure - I have no affiliation with this game or the designer, just thought it looked cool. All stretch goals posted have been unlocked, so I'm not even really trying to boost pledges for more loot. (though it is likely he will add a couple more stretch goals for the home stretch).

From what I gather, you really only need one maneuver deck to play...it's a bit like x-wing in that you use them to get your car from one place to another....so you pass the deck of maneuver cards to the next player when you've got your car where its going. It's just kinda nice to have one for each player...not essential.

The Passive Aggression Deck, etc. add additional upgrade options for your vehicles, again, not needed to play the game, but expand the ways in which you can hurt the other cars.

There should be enough terrain tiles in one set to play a decent sized game, from what I could see in the demo videos. although, the tiles are not needed, you could play with just the cards on your coffee table, or actually make your own detailed/flocked terrain board. The additional terrain tile sets add more/different style options for something neat looking to drive on.

This review video posted near the bottom of the kickstarter helped to sell me on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLp5gqKHKlc&feature=youtu.be

My 10-1/2 yr old son loves racing games on the console (Midnight Club, etc) but he hasnt shown much interest in getting into the analog games with dear old dad...I thought this game would be loads of fun for both of us and sort of act as a gateway game to get him to play more face-to-face type games.

So far that is the only thing actually interesting me and getting me to pledge actually, is both my son and daughter would love this style of game. There are definitely some things I would of changed in the board design but other than that there are still some lingering questions and concerns.
