So I just discovered that these bastard could be put into a small model count army! I had just returned to the game and thought these merely a nice support, but I never thought they alone could be run as an army! How is the army for them? At their cost they have a low body count, but is it made up for in power and efficiency? I'm very curious in all this.

The adamantine lance formation is very good, it is a top tier army. Drop pod melta, wave serpents and riptides are about the only counters to a bunch of IK with invuln saves. I would do 3 knights with some kind of allies. Chaos daemons would be good as you can start out with just a few and keep summoning things to grab objectives while the knights kill stuff.

They fascinate me and the lance formation sounds very good.

Frankly, the GW version of the Knight list sucks - and I'm saying this as a fan of both the faction and the models - it has only two units and no options or choices beyond a suspect die roll for Knightly ranks. If you want to do Knights justice then the 4th FW HH book has an infinitely better list with a lot more options (and I don't just mean the extra Cerastus Knight variants) but you will obviously need opponents permission to run them in normal 40K. (No real reason not to that I can see, but peoples be funny bout there soldiers sometimes)

Is that why IK have the highest win % in 7th just using the 2 Codex variants? Because they suck so hard?

No, you don't need Forgeworld to win. FW just keeps it from being boring.

Ah, so I can just run 2 and 2 of the two codex models for 1490 and I'd be okay?

Well, firstly, that's a difficult assertion to support when there isn't exactly an international 40K league to back you up.
Secondly, you misunderstood me, the GW IK Codex utterly lacks any flavour or variety, which is what I meant by it sucks, I much prefer to lose interesting than win dull, and the GW book sure as hell doesn't offer any great interest. I'll concede I could have been a bit clearer in that.

The problem i have with the new imperial knihts.... i mean the models are cool and all, but it just feels like theyre built for the wrong game.
Its like everyone else is playing ping pong, and then someone starts throwing tennis balls around. The scale is all wrong.
Sure in apocalypse, where eldar can bring their titans and ... im sure other people must have equivalents (ork squiggoths i guess but they are nowhere near as tough) these things would fit in fine. But in standard 40k, being able to field just titans as a force....
Saying that, ill still probably get one someday. The model is pretty sweet. But i dunno if ill ever field it.

Must tell you from my experience. We've got a local player that fields knights - 2 knights in lower pt games and Adamantite lance in higher pt games. He only gets games vs eldar tourney serpents + wraithknights cause noone else likes to play vs him. Win or loose, it just gets boring too quick.
You basically have 1 type of models on the table. Not like you can pull much variety out of it.

Unless you are looking to make a second or third army I would not make an 3+ imperial knight only army. The reasons for this are;
1) They make for extreme mismatches. You either steamroll the opponent or you get steamrolled. This means most of your games are poor experiences for one of the players.
2) Once you master the use of essentially the same model which plays pretty much the same way against all targets how much fun do you think you will have? Not a lot. The army become tedious to play in record time. If you make the FW 30K list then this is much less true.
3) Imperial Knight primary is the highest winning percentage but that was before pentatyrant. Flyrants are amazing at killing imperial knights and are essentially invulnerable to them. This is the problem with spam lists. They completely loose effectiveness if the meta shifts in the wrong direction.
Knight armies can be a very fun novelty but I wouldn't make it your main army or anything.

There is TOF which has tracked a TON of tournaments this year. It's the closest we're going to get without GW supporting tournaments. I will give you that the IK codex is bland and boring, and the FW knights add more variety. The only problem is some people will complain about using FW whereas nobody can say anything about using just GW stuff.
I don't see any problem with all knight armies, several players here use them and nobody has an issue with it. We have just learned to bring enough high S stuff to deal with them. They aren't that scary once you know how to play against them. Every army other than orks has multiple ways to deal with knights. Farsight, eldar and drop pod melta laugh at them.
