Hi Dakka Dakka!

Intro...
Here's my Nurgle Chaos Knight WIP Blog, inspired by the old epic models and the newer 40k Imperial Knight> Chaos Knight conversions I have come across recently (especially those with LED lighting).

These days I have a wife and little toddler, so not much time and even less money to spend on 40k! (my two year old plays with my dice, tape measures & templates and loves to ‘paint’ models so let’s hope I have a budding war-gamer in the making! The wife is less impressed with this! )

I therefore opted for a cheaper Knight model to start off with – a good friend spotted some resin alternative Imperial Knight models on eBay and I managed to secure one for my Christmas pressie!!

They are made and sold by crowfoot2007, I have included the original eBay photos as a starting point;

crowfoot2007 MK2 Battle Automaton...

At £32 plus P&P it was significantly cheaper than the £80 GW model...

First Assessment...
Quality was about what I expected for the price.

Low level detail, solid resin, no instructions and a lot of bubble holes/resin crystals (plus more than I would like to count hairs that needed removing from the resin!).

If I was planning on using it as an Imperial Knight I think I would have been disappointed (this isn’t really a criticism, but a side effect of the high quality of the GW models these days).

However, as the plan is to Nurgle it then it should be a really good starting point for a Chaos Knight.

It will probably be more work than I had hoped for due to a solid resin body and my plans to install an LED light in a Nurgle greenstuff head and the attached battery pack.

More soon, I have the preliminary pictures from my modelling so will post when I have uploaded them.

Constructive feedback is always appreciated; I think this will end up being a test piece for whenever I can put enough cash together to buy a GW Imperial Knight. So aiming to learn from this project and have a bit of fun along the way...

Hi Dakka Dakka!

No replies to my last post but it was only the opening pictures from the original eBay auction so hoping a get a few replies this time.

I’m a little behind on this blog, as I type this the final model has been finished and is ready for an undercoat spray.

The blog pictures are all here; http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-10246-44800_Chaos%20Knight.html

The Resin Kit...
So, here’s how the kit looked straight out of the box – al very carefully wrapped in bubble wrap. I was nervous as this was an Xmas present, bought around November time, I didn’t get to open it until 25-Dec-2014 but everything was there.

Here’s a scaling shot of the legs and body. They went together quickly, resin models seem to set superglue very quickly. I decided not to worry about the amount of bubble holes and mould marks as a lot of Nurgling would hide those later/they would add to the battered Nurgle effect.

I used a Plaguebearer for scaling throughout for consistency. Here’s the side of the body with the first test sizing for the LED lights and battery pack. The pack was too big, so I used a hack saw to remove a slice of the back of the body on both sides freeing up enough space.

Using my DIY drill I bored a hole through the centre of the body for the LED light and wiring – I figure this is where I loose out to the GW plastic equivalent and it’s thin, hollow body!

This actually took a lot of work and I recommend using an electric drill! Below is the back of the model, after the hole has been drilled out and I have taken a slice off each side.

I added a plasticard casing to house the LED battery pack. In each corner I reinforced it with square plastic rod which also doubled as somewhere handy to attach the magnets too. This would allow me to magnetise the back, so I can access to battery pack.

The body was then glued onto the legs.

I added a back to the battery compartment, this was deliberately not square, so it didn’t look too man-made and so it could only be fit back on one way round which would be important when I added the milliput and greenstuff Nurgling later.

Next I started building up the Nurgle body and back with milliput. I used milliput to do because it’s cheap, it mixes together quick and can be left with a rough finish which would suit my purposes nicely. I only made up about a third of a tube each time so as not to waste any, but also, because the rough joins between two lots of milliput would create extra texture/features.

An here is the back of the model before I add the milliput to that too.

I think I’ll stop here for now. Next time I’ll add in the LED lights and sculpt a Nurgle daemon head!

Have fun and feedback always welcome...

In the Warp, getting trolled by Tactical_Spam, AKA TZEENTCH INCARNATE

Certainly an interesting model you've got here!

What kind of colours can we expect? If I may make a suggestion, you could paint the Knight's original heraldry on the armour (the parts that are still visible by then), combined with standard Nurgle colours (green, yellow, colour of things best not described, etc.) on all the 'growth' that has inhabited it, so there's a bit of a transition from 'loyal engine of the Imperium' to 'corrupt spawn of Nurgle'

Tactical_Spam: Ezra is fighting reality right now.

War Kitten: Vanden, you just taunted the Dank Lord Ezra. Prepare for seven years of fighting reality...

War Kitten: Ezra can steal reality

Kharne the Befriender:Took him seven years but he got it wrangled down
