Yes, this is for 40k :p

I'm playing around with some ideas to add a bit of extra flavour to one of my Ork lists, and I was curious what you guys out there might think.

I'm wanting to add some squig-squads, as I dont think these little cute gribblies have enough representation in Orks these days. Especially after they wrote out Old Zogwort :(

These are the models I'm thinking of in particular:

Squig Herd:

Squig Hoppers:

Giant Squig:

Manglers:

You get the idea. Originally, this idea came up due to a discussion about the Ork Weirdboy daemonology summoning power. Summoning Orky daemons seemed like it might be fun. However there are issues with weirdboyz being ... really badly designed in the current codex, especially when it comes to using daemonology powers.

It then occurred to me that I could instead field them as an allies detachment, and just run them as counts-as daemon allies. Simpler, though means I have to pay actual points for them instead of getting them for free.
The advantage to allies though, is that I am not necessarily stuck with using those specific daemon rules from the malefic table, I could use other daemons that are better (or at least more suitable).
OR... I dont need to use daemons at all. I could use other army lists instead.

And so here we are. My best thoughts so far are daemons or tyranids:

Squig herd - Flesh Hounds or Raveners
Hoppers - Seekers of Slaneesh or Genestealers
Giant squigs - Nurgle plague drones or ... dunno, warriors?
Manglers - These are pretty big models I think. Great unclean one, or... I dunno, mawloc or similar? (I'm very out of date on current tyranid "meta")

Also leaves the option of chucking in a warboss on a wyvern as a bloodthirster, or a winged hive tyrant.

This is mostly a "just for fun" exercise, not a main army list. A small allies detachment, so dont need a lot of different units. Just a small feral orks core.

Any thoughts?

(ps. I have thought of trying to insert them into an orks list directly, but unfortunately... all orks carry guns. Even the melee orks. They just all have guns. They love the dakka. They *need* the dakka. )

The more I think about it, the more issues Tyranids would have. While they probably have enough non-gun carrying units to make it work (maybe... just), I don't think it would be a very good list.

Or you could just give them guns... There are usually extras on ork sprues, strap a couple of the extra guns to the squigs and you're good to go!

For the guy who leaves it all on the field (because he doesn't pick up after the game).
Keep on rolling

lol, potentially true, but having a pistol strapped to the head of a squig might look a little.... off.

I could maybe give pistols to the squig riders I guess, if I can find the appropriately sized pistols. Grot guns are all already attached to the grots.
