Always one to bite off more then I can chew, I've decided to make some terrain so I no longer have to storm fortress textbook. I have some leftover GW kits and decided I really wanted to work on a cityscape, but more importantly I wanted to work in a lot of scratch built elements to not only save money, but better myself as a modeler. After some sawing and a complete lack of measurement that resulted in more sawing, I came up with this little number.

A bridge to nowhere! Joy. Eventually it will be suspended between two wonderfully made buildings or so I hope. A purchase of more kits is on the horizon and hours of watching tutorials. I think I want a snow theme, which just made things worse.

I'm thinking about 9 or 10 pieces to cover the table, the bridge being a part of a larger structure. I've attached magnets in foresight to the bottom of the bridge, knowing that I'll likely want to remove it for storage as well as play. Things do get rather tall in 40k.

Today I began work on two buildings that will be connected by the bridge. I have pretty much run out of what little terrain kits I had lying around (I ordered some more) and decided to make most of the bottom floor of one building out of foam core and bits. I still have a bit of work left to do in the construction phase, but I'm happy with how things are going.

A lot of debris needs to be added, mostly to the foam core floor of the building pictured left and I really need to think about basing them soon as they are a bit delicate to handle at the moment.

The idea for this terrain came from a good friend of mine. We play quite a bit of kill teams and are obsessed with vertical space. The more floors a building has, the happier we are to go slogging through it. I'm not sure how many bridges and causeways I'm making, but I'm sure this won't be the last.

Where did you get the hand railing/wall for the bridge? It doesn't look like gw carries any kits for them.

Awesome combination of GW kits and plasticcard! It's a nice way to get large builds, but still keep that technogothic look we all love.

One thought on basing, though. Increasingly, I'm reducing the size of the bases on my terrain as far as possible, particularly on buildings. The reason for this is to keep the terrain from becoming too locked in to one tileset.

When I build my jungle cathedral, I went all in, and built bases with lots of theme:

But this means that it looks super out of place on anything but a jungle board.

So now, I try to make the the piece as robust as possible, so it can fit onto any board:

Also, consider spattering and darkenning effects around the lower area of ruins, and such. This helps them merge into the battlefield, too.

Otherwise, great work, good luck, and keep up your enthusiasm by playing some games with your terrain too!

Finished is not perfec...

Looking good so far

How high up is the bridge compared to the size of a regular model? It looks a bit high at the moment
