THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN!

A few days left of school/ work, a few days til we hightail it out of the country, a few days left to paint (and maybe game? Nah....).

So I really need to step up the process of finishing projects up!

Something that's never been seen yet on Dakka- my Grand Master Voldus!

Happy with his progress. Needs some more gold embellishment still.

The Pale Rider's ride! Not sure how well the pink base coat shows up now. Wanted him nice and raw looking under his skin.

It so happened that while I was painting him, I was painting up the Flesh Eater Court start collecting box my son talked me in to.

So here's the first of the Crypt Ghouls.

And a few extra Reaper Bones guys to help swell his ranks for the skirmish game.

And here's his proxy Ghoul King with an attendant to use in the meantime, as I haven't started in on the Crypt Horrors or the Zombie Dragon yet.

I need to do more with that proxy King. The details were really shallow on him.

Also got started on my Arkanaut Company in earnest.

Someone's got to stop the maddening feast of those damned Ghouls! I've got just about every infantry type for the Kharadon started now. Hopefully I can get them finished before we leave!

The crazy thing is after seeing the artwork for the battleships the Kharadon have, my dad has gotten it in his head to attempt to build one himself. Considering how many 1/32 battleships the guy has built in my lifetime, I'm sure he'll come up with something interesting. So now, it's off to eBay to scrounge up those balloon things for the Arkanaut ships and as many extra turrets as I can come across!

We realized that there wasn't much of a difference between the Ghast unit leader and the Courtier, so we made our own for our Flesh Eater Courts.

We used the extra set of wings that the Vargoyle leader gets or whatever the giant bat guys are called and slapped them on. Simple and effective.

Here h e is with all the other ghouls finished up! Started the Crypt Horrors and another Courtier to go with our skirmish group.

So.

Finally not super jet lagged, and I have been steadily plugging away at completing some of the mess I left prior to exiting the states for the last 2 months.

A lot of these were projects I started a long time ago, and after quite an expensive vacation and getting solar panels installed, I need to be more mindful of my hobby spending.

So without further ado, things that I finally finished.

The mighty lord of Khorne from the starter box, that I got the week it came out! Still not done with that box though... getting there, little by little!

My first Chaos Knight, ever!

And a friend to keep him company while I finish the rest of the unit.

A difficult to photograph Lord Chompy Bits from the Neverborn.

Drycha Hamadreth, who I don't know if I ever posted any WIP in the first place. Maybe I did? Quite happy with her. Got quite a few friends for her waiting to get started.

Ogres! Bones 3 Ogres at that! I love his door as a shield.

And his buddy

Rear view of both of them.

Plus an Aquatic Ogre from one of the expansion sets in Bones 3.

A completely reworked and rebased Skulleaper. Maybe I posted him before? I had stripped him at one point and gave him an extra arm, because why not? He's already got a tail and a scorpion claw...

A spiky growth affected Bloodbound warrior from the multipart box.

A Chaos Marine from the Dark Vengeance box I believe?

Dorothy from the Twisted! game.

And after actually receiving my Toughest Girls in the Galaxy order, I decided I'm going to actually get to work on them! Here's the first elf I painted (I did a Sister a while back).

...and there's still more. That's enough to post for now!

Smorgasbord round two!

Played Shadows of Brimstone over the weekend with Bob the Inquisitor and Barzam. It's been a while and I forgot a fair amount of rules (natural 6 being a critical and ignoring defense for one).
I hadn't played in a while as I'm waiting for the rest of my Minecart, and I have a weird habit of not touching games until they're "complete" so to speak.

We had fun and it got me in the mood to get back to my 1.5 stuff.

Started and finished my Trederran Raiders. Here's one pose.

And the other.

And the whole group. I did them super simple, but they're done and ready for the table at least.

Also got around to finishing the Pale Rider for Malifaux finally.

Speaking of Malifaux, did a quick and dirty set of Sorrows and the last Hollow Waif I had.

A Komainu, who I thought would have been much larger (despite sitting on a 40mm base, seems quite small and low to the ground)

A Gaki that will see use elsewhere,

As well as my Arcane Effigy, who was supposed to get unveiled in a game of Frostgrave that ended up getting canceled.

This guy is TINY! Those stupid candlestick holders! I am shocked I did not break him. I was quite happy with how his spell book turned out.

Considering how tiny that book is... anyway, he's totally my new Frostgrave apprentice. The plan is to take a pure Malifaux group.
Although I'm also thinking of using this guy with him as my actual Wizard.

I know not many people like him, but I'm happy with how he turned out.

Also played around with my Silver Tower Brimstones, and tried painting a Pox Walker with multiple puke- like washes.

Continued on with my Kharadron Overlords as well.

First Grundstok Thunderer complete!

First Endrinrigger as well!

From the side

And a guy I built with leftover Kharadron bits from a bunch of kits.

Arkanauts aren't supposed to have aethershots!

...plus there's still more to come that's currently drying.

I went through a lot of red paint this week. Lots and lots of red!

Red paint for the newish plastic Khadorian Grolar warjack kit,

Some more red paint for one of the Shael Han's "Children" from CMON's Wrath of Kings line. Who doesn't like cybernetic steam punk kung fu Ogres after all?

Another coat of red gets my female Ogress form the Bones 3 campaign closer to completion. She's got a goblin on a leash hiding behind her skirt I need to do still. She'll be part of my inevitable Ogre Frostgrave crew.

Not sure if she'll be the Mage or the Apprentice though...

Much red has been spilled on this Mournfang crew I started working on around the time that they got reboxed. Everyone is painted, just going through the process of basing them all now.

This guy got some new skin as he was a hobby shop consignment salvage that I later added even more junk to, got unsatisfied with, tore him to shreds, and then slowly repainted and rebuilt him. He may have shown up around here ages ago.

Not completely red, but more of a reddish brown, my Stonehorn is finally finished! Had it since pre end times. Seem to have lost his reigns for the Ogre on top sadly. Will keep hunting around for them...

Also not red in the truest sense of the word, but at least hit with a red wash, is my albino magic- using ogre and his flock of birds. I just won an auction for another giant who will be lending this guy the birds from that kit.
The lump on his head is a crow, and there's a few more birds perched on his staff that I made far too tall for the photo.

Another guy who got hit with a red wash, my second finished pox walker. His teeth are hard to see in this photo. Strange.

Got my first Kairic Acolyte done! Only 9 more to go and I can finally use them all in Warhammer Quest! Also, another Thunderer done.

...that's... not red. Whoops. One of my few remaining unfinished trolls is now done.

Got a Tzaangor Shaman for an actual reasonable price the other day. Couldn't stop working on it.

Still need to finish up his magic potion on his belt and do the trim of the base, but he's basically finished. Reasonably satisfied with him- it'll look decent from a distance and I figured out what colors to use for the other Tzaangors- you can see a few hanging around in the background there with the acolytes.

Started working on a Curseling and about a dozen ogres that naturally all have to be special (red) snowflakes and be unique...

BONES FOR THE BONES GOD!

As I shudder to wait for the inevitable beginning of the school year and the return to work/ reality, I figured I ought to start doing something with the ever- growing pile of Bones figures that's accumulating in the corner of my office.

So for the remainder of the Bones 4 kickstarter, I'm going to paint some of my Bones figures. My goal is 30 Bones in 30 days. A reasonable goal, yes? Here's what's been started since the campaign began.

#1

A Cimmerian Barbarian looking chap, straight out of John Buscema's artwork on his 70s Savage Sword of Conan magazine run.

#2

This guy gives me a Slaine vibe for some reason. Naked barbarian with funky helmet makes me think Fomorian. His hands are also really weird. They either have two many fingers or they all just fused together Cronenberg style.

#3

A rather generic tree man/ plant elemental. A shame you can't see the highlighting I did on it, but that's what happens when I take photos in a dark room in the middle of the night I guess.

#4

A very cool sculpt. Always wanted the metal version of this jolly monk. Bones will suffice.

#5

This woman of the Law sadly has a very mushy face. I tried to paint in some eyes, but the detail was really shallow. I think I need to get a different color flesh tone to try and paint in a mouth.

#6

Just for Barzam, because he loves Halflings. What else would they possibly do than be relegated to the food service industry?

#7

Yet another red skinned ogre! He won't get to hang out with his friends in the ogre gallery sadly. He's going in my fresh new Bones gallery!

#8

I'm counting this as one entry, as technically I started all bu the dude with the helmet and sword in the back prior to the Bones 4 campaign starting. But I finished them all together, so they get counted as a group!

With close to a third of my goal being done, I'm going to try and rush through some of my remaining WIPs sitting in front of me- mainly Tzeentch stuff and Ironjawz.

Plus more Bones!

Not a bad plan, tackling those Bones figures. I've still barely touched my Bones 2 pledge.

That halfling though. The guy can't be bothered to even wear shoes, yet he thinks he's qualified to handle food? I'll bet he doesn't even wash his hands.

Nah, I have plenty of other Bones that need to get wished out to the cornfield. She isn't one of them.

The super disappointing Behir is one. Small, fiddly parts, super bad warping... it's just a sad excuse of a monster compared to the old D&D prepaint.

Bones minis are coming along, but they're at a very sloppy point that I don't feel like posting them yet.

I did however finish up a few other outstanding items.

First actual Tzaangor finished, well, besides the Shaman one. Technically the Shaman wasn't even the first, as I've got an Enlightened I painted in pieces finished a while back, just need to finish his disc and glue him together.

The Tzaangor mutant from the multipose kit.

Some out of focus Kairic Acolytes to hang with the Gors and Gaunt Summoners.

The Ork Air Traffic Controller.

Actually the Warchanter has some pretty fun rules as he drums away on his opponents with his literal beat sticks.

Some more Ironjawz hanging out with nothing better to do than grimace and look menacing.

The Ironjawz Brute boss, who has mysteriously lost his chest armor. At least he's still reasonably armored and can still head into battle with his giant crab claw and mace.

Start things off with a requisite Bones figure-

#9

A nice looking skeleton archer from the Bones 3 campaign I believe.

Got another half dozen that are coming close to being done enough I can show them off soon enough.

But I continued to plug away at the Tzeentch stuff that's been in front of me for a long time now.

The Curseling's armor is pretty much finished at this point. It's not 'Eavy Metal quality, but at least it's recognizable compared to the package paint job.

Just need to do weapon and base at this point.

I won this guy in a lot along with a few other Tzeentchian mage types that were customized. I could not for the life of me pry this tentacle arm off, and I tried many solutions.

It's actually a head tentacle from a Herald of Tzeentch who I got from the same owner that was also "improved," who is currently waiting for me to figure out how to fix him up.

The first of my Enlightened. He's very close to being finished, so why not post him? His disc was probably my biggest hang up on what to do with him, and upon gluing everything down, he hangs way more over the base then I'd usually like.

Our Crypt Haunter Courtier. I like the weird old avocado color of his skin. Something different. Not sure if the other horrors will be a similar tone or not.

....and something totally out of my comfort zone. I really like this model. His jacket gives me a western vibe for some reason. I thought about cutting that gun and giving him a Stormcast pistol, maybe put a sword in his other hand and use him as a custom Lord Relictor, but then I thought nah, he looks cool as is.

More Bones.

#10

This guy just did not want to photograph. Doesn't help that he has really soft facial details as well, and actually is kinda plain. I'm probably going to go back over some spots and re-highlight some areas.

#11

Necromancer/ cultist leader type from one of the expasnions. I forget which campaign. Maybe 2?

#12

The nipple slip barbarian, that I don't think anyone actually asked for. I honestly wonder if this is a figure that's going to generate a lot of sales, because it did nothing for me and I just slopped paint on her to meet my 30 figure quota.

#13

I think this guy was from 3? He's painted up to match all my Frostgrave cultists, and goes well with the guy with the spellbook who was up a few photos.
A rogue paint splash ended up making a pretty good Bindi on him, as well as a scar mark on his cheek. I'm going to go back over those with appropriate colors and leave them there.

#14

This figure I like, and put a lot more effort in to. I'm guess she's some sort of healer/ alchemist/ priest type? My daughter likes her to. I may have two of this figure now, as she had convinced me to purchase one for her one day at the hobby shop. I'll have to do the other one totally different upon finding it.

#15- HALFWAY THERE!

Those cultists are pretty nice actually. I'm going to have to get some of the ones that were included in that Mythos expansion one of these days. I have no idea if they've hit retail yet or not.

The Bones saga continues to unfold...

#16 & #17

Either this guy is an undead detective or his face is really gaunt, to the point of looking zombified. He has barely any nose to speak of. Maybe he's just a hard drinker and been out in the sun too long.

His accomplice is hiding a gun behind her handbag, but you can't see that from the front. You can't really see that from behind either- it wasn't until I'd actually painted her that I realized that's what she was doing.

#18

Out of focus zombie attack! This guy's face doesn't look much better than the pistol packing lawman above.

#19

The final Bones 3 Ogre completed! I'll get a picture of him and all his buddies some other time to include in my Ogre folder.

My favorite of the new Grymkin models for Warmachine/ Hordes, Lord Longfellow. He's a giant upright spider in a trenchcoat with a Venetian mask and 4 dueling pistols. What's not to love?

2/3 of the way through, just like the actual Kickstarter!

#20

A Hobgoblin boss type Bones figure. He had no eyes. They were just smooth. Is he a blind ninja master, who's keenest eye looks inwards? Perhaps.
Might do some more work on his fancy equipment parts.

#21

The most pointlessly questionable figure from the Bones 3 campaign. Why did we need such a malformed Fomorian? I mean, he's not just malformed, but seems to be suffering from Elephantitis. Naturally he needs to fit in with the rest of my Ogres though.

#22

A goblin covering up his nakedness with a shield that needs some better shading....

#23

A Bones bullywug? Was that what the frog guys were called? I had a pair of plastic toy frogmen like this when I was a kid, and they were some of my favorite toys growing up. What a nerd!

#24

A pair of gremlins. Counting them as one entry since they were attached to the same sprue. They're also very tiny, as you can see from this size comparison pic-

Looking at that photo, I probably should have put a human scale figure in there for reference as well...

I also would have probably gotten more Bones done if it wasn't for the following guys-

Flashgitz! The boss here is the furthest along of the group, but the rest are close behind. Working on the group's banner poles as well. The biggest frustration with them was figuring out how the to paint them. There's so much stuff going on with them it took me ages to figure out how I wanted to paint them, and many sections have been painted and repainted over adn over again. They'll be done soon enough though...

#27

Don't know what this guy is supposed to be. Reminds me of Roland from the Dark Tower for some reason. He's got a gun, but I painted the handle pretty light and it looks like it's part of his hand now. May need to fix it.

#28

A random elf lady. Has a really high forehead in my opinion.

#29

A random thug from the Stonereach expansion or whatever it was called. There's 2 other guys that look similar to him- once they're done I've completed my challenge, all before the current campaign ends!

Also finished up the Dreamer, but the goat Bones seems to have stolen the focus of the picture. He even has eyes painted!

Finished the 30th and 31st respectively. Now to paint other stuff, and ignore the 2 or 3 dozen other Bones I've started...

His shield arm is extended way too far out. Otherwise he's a nice generic grunt.

The Solar from Bones 3, with the thug hanging around for scale.

Well the campaign ended, I spent enough and know I'll spend more prior to the pledge manager closing.

In the meantime I just kept painting those damned Bones. It's like there is no end to them!

There's this dapper gentleman, ready to pose in front of a sunset. I do like that he looks like he's going to go off trekking for loot, not wandering down to the local tavern empty handed.

Another Hobgoblin, rushing out to meet his loved ones in a welcoming hug.

A Pathfinder iconic something or other. He looks busy. So does the original artwork.

A Viking covered from head to toe leaving no flesh exposed for me to paint.

A smug Necromancer who's shown up here before

looking all pleased with himself for his latest concoctions.

A random Greylord of Khador I finally got around to finishing!
