not sure if this is going to apply to Dark Age, but since the last factory screw up effected both games I though it was worth posting here

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ....

So, there was a major shipping mishap with the container(s) that were bringing some of our Wrath of Kings releases to our warehouse in Alpharetta, Georgie from the fabricators in China. This is what caused so much oddity with the schedule of releases, and why we believed there was certain products in the warehouse when there was not.

This situation came very much to light during the initial days of the awesome Cyber Monday webstore sale, and has since been corrected. We are waiting on the return of the products from China now, and as soon as they arrive we will make sure they get posted up for sale and that we will make the proper announcement here.

Sorry again for the miscommunication, and we hope you guys understand that we want you to have this product *almost* as much as you want it!

Cheers all,
The Wrath of Kings team

Holiday madness!

HAPPY CUPBOARDER’S DAY!

November 29, 2017 Background No comments

For those of us in America, we just got through celebrating one of our local holidays – Thanksgiving – and it begged the question what kinds of holidays do the cultures of Samaria celebrate? Not all of a Samarian’s life is war, conflict, and a depressing survival. They have their moments of mirth and joy as well, and many noteworthy days on their strange, somewhat malleable calendar.

By the Samarian year 518 (based upon the Prevailers’ word), there are a number of Samarian Holidays being celebrated by one culture or the next.

In the wake of an American holiday here on “ancient Terra”, we wanted to list out a few popular ones on the distant world of Attr…

Cupboarder’s Day – Amongst the stacks of houses and apartments of New Ashkelon, refrigeration is extremely costly and rare. That means that when the hot seasons come most food goes bad quickly, so there is a yearly celebration where all the locals clear out their cupboards and pantries by holding block-wide feasts for at least one day. It is a time for camaraderie and fellowship, and one that is traditionally viewed as a “commoner’s holiday.”

Creation Annual – A High Prevailer holy day held on the longest day of each year, the Creation Annual is a solemn and quiet day of retrospective thought and prayer. On this day, the Prevailer Council locks themselves in the Templar solarium and the Saints – whichever ones are within the capital’s walls, anyway – are given the run of New Ashkelon until sundown.

Debtors’ Sanctuary – A frontier holiday observed by scavengers and slavers, Debtors’ Sanctuary is the last day of the short autumnal season in central Samaria. It also traditionally marks the last day where anyone who owes bludgelt to anyone else can dodge payment. For the full day’s length, bounty hunters and debt collectors cannot push their charges into repayment unwillingly… but the following day is generally one full of fulfilled contracts.

Ae’rhy’kkol – This ancient Dragyri day of spiritual rest translated roughly as “Aethercalm”, where no Dragyri loyal to the Grand Arbiter would dare use even a single Foci ability. It is said to be a day where the spirits of Foci users in the past were closest to the skin between worlds; so close they could watch the world of the living for anyone who would dare break the will of the Grand Arbiter – and punish them.

Kukulkan Rising – The only true holiday observed by the Attr-bound Kukulkani by both the Sun Crusaders and the Moon Congregation, Kukulkani Rising is thirteen hours of coldest winter warmed by the burning of dozens of previously captured sacrifices in Kukulkan’s name. For weeks leading up to the holiday, the alien warriors raid local communities far and wide in search of suitable captives, saving them all up for the collective clergy to sacrifice on the grisly holy day.

Father’s Day – A sick version of the original Terran holiday, Father’s Day is now a grand and visceral event for the Baniss tribes of the Skarrd. Tribal Fathers and all those fond with the “Father gene” within them are celebrated and held up on social pedestals within their tribes and cults. Their twisted families turn the day into a violent bloodbath of ritual combat, honor challenges, and hero worship that often ends up bleeding the ground muddy all over the Skarrd lands. On this day, everyone wants to earn their Fathers’ favor.

Anniversary of the Emergence – While not technically a traditional holiday, those Brood who are sentient and within the mental connection and influence of the Brood Mere all take a single day each year to migrate back as far as they can toward their “mother” to reconnect. This just happens to be on the mid-spring anniversary of the day MJB-1, Helexa, and the Brood Mere broke free of the old compound that birthed them. If it isn’t a conscious reflection from their matriarch, it is a disturbing coincidence. Now that a strange “Father” figure has also emerged within the Brood, with only a few months before the Anniversary – who knows what will happen to the currently erratic swarms.

Oathing Stretch – Salt Flat Nomads take the first day of summer each year to gather within their tribes and clans, turning their tent and wagon villages into a three day gala celebration of music, food, dance, contests of skill or strength, and the most important thing to each one of them – the re-swearing of any unfulfilled oaths and any punitive bloodletting that is called for. This semi-holy gathering is also where any grievances can be forgiven or lasting punishments lifted; but only if the Caravan Leaders or the Bladelord wills it.

The Sting of Loyalty – A recently re-adopted holiday marked on the seventh day of winter – the day the Prevailers openly forsook Saint Johann and sent the Lion Saint – twice accursed Matthew – after the Scorpion Saint. It is a day where secret cells of the Followers of the Heretic once gathered under the Worm Shepherds and were put through vicious tests to make sure they were truly loyal to the cause. Whether it was surviving thrusting a bare hand into a nest of salt scorpions, willingly accepting a bite from a rabid fell jackal, or even just submitting to an unnecessary graft – they all would do it if they wanted to stay in his good graces. It started with Johann and the original heretics, fell out of practice when he transformed into a Tribal Father, and has since begun anew with Jon Woe’s rise to Scorpion Saint…

The Wassail of Saint Nickislaus – A feared and dreaded night of New Ashkelonian terror when it is said an ancient Terran spirit of judgment comes to Samaria to seek out the wicked and the malcontent to bring them to heel for their crimes against their fellows. It is a dark night where trees outside homesteads are decorated to ward away the ancient terrors, livestock have their snouts painted red to embody blushed embarrassment for their misgivings, and children are given all the tools for their own survival in the year to come – should they survive the coming of the savage Saint Nickislaus and his portly wife!

Maybe now that you know these Samarian holidays, there can be just a little more story to bring to the table when you play your next game of Dark Age!

And remember, CMON will be taking time off from not stocking their store, taking forever to ship orders out of the warehouse, struggling to find distributors or in general getting this awesome game out there to the gaming world, and there are no new releases in December!

NO DECEMBER RELEASES

December 6, 2017 New Releases No comments

Hey everyone!

Everybody is going crazy with post-Cyber Monday packing and shipping, restock orders are being unpacked, new products are incoming, and all hands are on deck getting our awesome products ready and out the door to you.

During this, our season of craziness, everybody here at CMON’s Dark Age team wanted to make sure to remind you folks that December is crazy for us. To help our esteemed and hard-working warehouse staff make the most of it, we don’t release ANY new Dark Age products in the month of December.

With our increased sales and attention to the line, we know quite a few new players and fans have come on board and have gotten used to our monthly release schedule. We just wanted to make sure that everybody knew that December is NOT a release month for us, and instead it is a much needed month of focusing on getting things in and out the door before the new year comes and we start making new products our focus yet again.

Thank you for your patience, your patronage, and your continued understanding!

Cheers all,
Bryan

NEW FACTION ERRATA AND ALTERED DRAGYRI CARDS!
December 11, 2017

Hey everyone!

We just wanted to let you know that we have just uploaded the brand new Faction Errata and FAQ document for you to peruse and enjoy… but also we thought you might want to know a few VERY important changes we have made to some existing units within the Dragyri factions.

So, with the Dragyri stat card deck being official for more than a year now, we have received a great deal of remarks and notes about certain models and powers… and we know that a few needed some alteration.

In order to understand the changes that we have made, we’ll go ahead and let you peek behind the curtain a little bit…

Air Caste

Death’s Device of Air: After hearing again and again that the Death’s Device of Air was falling lackluster to other castes’ members of the Order, we decided to test out some new protective measures as well as a more diverse and efficient Assault Group structure.

Squall Elementals: There has been a great deal of discussion and debate over the potential power level of the Squall, and instead of increasing its point cost and hurling it into a new points bracket within the caste, it was decided instead to remove its Final Strike (an odd addition to it in the first place) and “fixing” their primary attack group by turning the old small Blast into a larger and more sensible Proximity Strike.

Whisper: Helping the Whisper reclaim its role as the mid-point nimble attacker, adding the Elusive special ability and giving more dice to their melee attack has helped it considerably.

Wind Wall Psychogenic: This psychogenic has been something discussed internally and externally again and again, and we felt it required a complete overhaul from its previous format. This new version is slightly more efficient at what it did, but now actually costs AP to activate – and could result in the occasional malfunction!

Fire Caste

Soul Warden of Fire: The fiery blast of the Warden’s ranged Assault Group now hits as hard as a Forsaken Firestorm… which only makes sense.

Sling Slave (of Fire): Adding a PW score to their attack is actually just fixing a post-edit error that was caught much too far along. Please excuse the situation and start making better use out of them!

Shadow Caste

Death’s Device of Shadow: Like their big sisters in the Air caste, we felt the Death’s Device of Shadow needed to better fill his designed role as “Panic inducing bully” that we always wanted him to be. This required a few alterations and the addition of some new special abilities.

Keeper: In order to better serve their mistress, the Huntress, and that style of forcelist, Keepers can now Squadlink with their multi-legged brethren.

Greater Spiderling: Reducing the enormous arachnids’ DF value by a small amount helps set the monsters apart from their little cousins and cohorts.

Ensnaring Webs Psychogenic: Changing the attack into a Stream template has made the power far more useful and attractive in the light of other Shadow Psychogenics.

Ice Caste

Luck’kit’kaii, Arbiter of Fate: After much discussion – especially after pitting him against the soon-to-emerge Earth Caste Arbiter (they are kind of rivals, so it made sense) a few times – we decided to “crank up” the narratively inspired assault efficiency of the Alteghran-altered monstrosity. His new incarnation is much the same offensive powerhouse as he has always been, but now his enhanced tactical mental structure and centuries-old fighting talents are represented in a much more deserved way. While the old Luck’kit’kaii was a killer, his new version fits the new ideology of the 200 point Arbiters a little better. (You’ll understand when San’triahn brings his mighty fists to the table…)

Please enjoy the new changes, note them for the future, and go play some Dark Age games!

TAKING A LOOK AT THE FACTION SPECIFIC SECONDARY OBJECTIVE ADD-ONS
December 13, 2017

Hey everyone!

In just a month’s time we will be offering the awesome new Faction Specific Secondary Objective Deck Add-On, and we felt it might be nice to list off the contents and preview a few of the cards found within!

Designed to be added to the existing Secondary Objective cards to help create a more streamlined and narrative deck for Dark Age forces based on their primary faction, these cards were all created to be both unique and flavorful.

Let’s take a look!

Brood Cards

Unstable Evolutions – An objective that relies on the Brood to use their strange and magnificent powers granted to them by their lineage, even if it means some self-sacrifice

Predator and Prey – An objective based upon the fact that Brood are still active members of Samarian fauna, and their big hungry monsters need to eat, too!

C.O.R.E. Cards

Error 405 – The machinery of the C.O.R.E. tends to wear down and malfunction quite often, and this objective soothes the sting of those breakdowns when too many happen at once

Collect Organic Matter – An objective about claiming the best part of a living foe killed on the battlefield and making use of it for the greater entropic cell of the C.O.R.E.

The Relentless Machine – There are a number of C.O.R.E. warriors that can withstand surprising levels of physical damage, and this objective is a reward for those that take the hits and just keep coming

The Central Code Adapts – An objective based around the C.O.R.E.’s warriors using their adaptability to kill their enemies.

For the Glory of Kukulkan! – An objective focusing on the Kukulkani giving up their own life energy for the good of the cause

Eternal Warriors – The unliving constructs of the Kukulkani technomancers can take a great deal of damage and still keep fighting; this objective heralds their success.

Bounty Hunter Cards

For Love or ‘Gelt – An objective about a Bounty Hunter currently working for the force helping stop the enemy force from completing their goals and missions

Be a Team Player- Bounty Hunters are normally solo fighters; this objective rewards them for joining in a force’s group tactics

Earn Your Wage – An objective about a Bounty Hunter killing more than its worth in a single moment of glory

Crossfire! – An objective surrounding the Bounty Hunter as a gunslinger or an expert at throwing weapons, saving the life of a comrade at the last minute

Hello Samarians,
In the last couple months there have been many emails, comments, PMs, and the like asking or talking about the state of the webstore, the timing for shipments, and the plans for when restocks will go live.
We have answered these inquiries most of the time with "be patient" or "restocks are incoming", but with the sheer volume of orders being filled after the Cyber Monday ongoing Holiday sale... the Dark Age team wanted to tell you all a few things to help get you prepared for the next few weeks and answer any important questions that might come up during that time.

First and foremost, we have received HUNDREDS of pounds of metal and resin from our casters to fill restock boxes. Items that people have been waiting on for a long time are now in the warehouse, but it takes man hours and extra hands to get all these miniatures into their boxes with the right cards, shrink-wrapped, entered into the system and re-boxed for shipping. Something that also takes up a great deal of space in the Dark Age "section" of the warehouse.

Basically, we are busting at the seams getting ready to not only release new boxes and products in January, but also do a massive restock into the webstore at the same time. This will take a few weeks, and with the sale and the actual Holidays impending, it is time to get honest with you all.

Our hard-working and esteemed folk in the warehouse are going to take the next few weeks to get everything caught up, boxed up, and ready for a big warehouse update in early to mid January.

We know that it means no stock numbers rising in December, but it will really help us get caught up with everything without having to rush things, hire outside (and less familiar) temporary help, and possibly make mistakes and mispacks.

Everyone here at Dark Age wanted to be open and honest with how this is going, and we are very thankful for your patience, support, and understanding.

In the meantime... go get some games in and tell us all about it!

THE WASSAIL OF SAINT NICKISLAUS IS HERE…
December 20, 2017

It is about that time here on ancient Terra, and for the people of Samaria that means one thing… Saint Nickislaus is almost here with his savage bride to cull the weak from both the naughty and the nice.
So… turn down the lights… string some chains across the doors… and recite the following…

Saint Nickislaus’ Ballad
‘Twas the eve of Wassail, and all through the block
Not a window was open, all latched shut with their locks;
The rifles were loaded and laid out by the fire,
Waiting to fend off Saint Nickislaus’ ire;
The children should huddle under their beds,
sharpening their knives and covering their heads;
And mamma as lookout, with dad stoking the flame,
If the paingiver got in, we knew who’s to blame.
When out in the winds I heard a fieldhand scream,
I spun to see shadows shifting through moonbeams.
I ran to the door, checked the chains in a flash,
Everything held tight and would stand a good bash.
I peaked out the firing slot, not sure what’s to find,
But only darkness and dust, ‘twas as if I were blind.
Then with a bellowing song, my heart filled with fear,
The giant man and his portly wife, they did appear.
Clad in leather, fur, and hammered steel,
The Nickislaus spirits stood; their gaze we could feel.
They laughed, and the Saint gave his wife a kiss on the cheek,
They called out to us all, and my knees went weak;
“Liars and cheats! Adulterers and thieves!
Cometh and get ye’r due on this eve of eves!
Send out your sinners and pay they will!
This is your last chance to choose who we kill!”
With a hoot and a growl they began to circle our home,
And my family and I, we saw not where they roam.
Hefted our rifles, barrels out of the slits,
The Nickislaus spirits scared us from our wits.
‘Twas then the first bullet punched through the wall,
Whizzed past my ear, to the floor I did fall.
Mamma let out a few shots, hitting nothing but night,
The only answer was laughter, the Missus’ voice a fright.
“Let us in! Let us in! For you I have treats!
Arsenic for liars, cold steel for the cheats!
A sweet song of madness, or cookies to chew,
Open the door and see what’s for you!”
Then we all gasped! We all tried for brave,
Three bangs on the door, and the chains almost gave!
I scrambled, I crawled, I fumbled for the lock,
But I froze when high night chimes rang on our clock;
It was not enough time, I tried my best,
But that door would give and let in two guests;
There was a sick peal, and the chains dropped to the floor,
And the damnable ogre’s shape filled the frame of the door.
He was huge, sweaty, and smelled sickly sweet.
Behind him, his wife, gleefully tapping her feet;
The demon, he stooped, and sniffed at the air,
Passing judgement upon the foul and fair;
He growled not a word, kept coldly to work,
Stopping once he smelled mamma; then turned with a jerk;
His chain shot out, swept her straight away,
“It’s you!” he roared, “Who now must pay!”
Finding her guilty, they took mamma outside,
Given hardly a moment, between them she died.
The rest of the family clung close, happy to be alive,
So now I wish all their own Wassail to survive!

Oh yeah, enjoy the following “Holiday Bounty Hunters” as well!

January releases!

NEW YEAR, NEW RELEASES

January 12, 2018 New Releases

Happy 2018, everyone! We’re starting off the New Year with a whole plethora of new releases. We’ve got something for everyone. In terms of new minis, there’s Dragyri and Skarrd, but even if you don’t play those factions, you still get the new Secondary Objective Deck. This contains new cards for every faction. So head on down to your LGS or the CMON webshop and pick up yours today.

A great new addition to the Dark Age gaming resources, this Secondary Objective Deck Add-On is focused on allowing players to tailor their decks to best fit the faction, not just the force, that they are playing at the moment. By adding additional objectives based on the narrative and abilities of the various factions, a player’s game can be made that much more flavorful and fitting to their playstyle!

Following up that, the Dragyri are getting a lot of new boxes. We start you off with the Soul Warden box. The Soul Wardens are the mystic spiritualists of all the elemental castes. Bringing a control and command of the elemental energies and the creatures they can summon, Soul Wardens are important psychogenic foci masters on any battlefield.

Heading to the different sub-factions within the Dragyri, we next go to the Air Caste Death’s Device box. Death’s Devices of the Air Caste are known for their ferocity and fortitude. They never shrink from battle, often leading the charge against their enemies. They never stand still on the battlefield, always seeking new targets or new angles of attack against their current target.

Not to be outdone, the Ice Caste is getting their own Death’s Device box. When they reach a certain age, aspiring members of the Ice Caste military structure train with Soul Wardens on developing their Ice Focus. While many receive the calling, there are a handful who do not. These warriors may choose to leave the military in dishonor, or they may redouble their physical training efforts and join the ranks of the Death’s Devices – the Ice Caste’s brutally efficient executioners

They say that deaths often come in threes. That’s certainly the case with Death’s Devices boxes. The Shadow Caste is getting one as well. There are many types of devoted soldiers in the Shadow Caste, but few are more terrifying than the Death’s Devices and the Raaf. Rubbing their armor with raw fear-inducing pheromones, the Death’s Device can kill with terror as easily as they can with sword and shield. The Raaf are lethal knife fighters that love nothing more than the feel of xenosathic alloy slicing through flesh.

But that’s only the first of the Shadow Caste releases this month. Up next is the Umbra Shadow Elemental. Brought to this world a long time ago from another corner of reality, the Umbra are half ethereal, shapeshifting monsters that have agreed to serve the Shadow Caste as their horrifying elementals. Forming claws and blades to slice physically while tearing apart a foe with fear itself, the Umbra are battlefield nightmares made real.

Finishing off the Dragyri releases, there’s the Spiderlings Box for the Shadow Caste. The hordes of Arachnae that live beneath the crust of Samaria have served the Shadow Caste for millennia. They come in many shapes and sizes, but they all are poisonous creatures that scurry and leap into the enemy. They swarm over their foes, letting the toxins do their work, and feast upon what remains once the battle is done!

But the Dragyri don’t have all the fun. The Skarrd faction is making its presence known, especially the Cult of Decay. They have a new Faction Box available. Created in the aftermath of an atomic detonation, the Cult of Decay takes the power of mass destruction and mixes it with Mother Blazon’s psychogenic necromancy to create a teeming mass of undying things. Taking the Skarrd ideals of evolution to a point beyond the grave, those who serve the Decay Cult are awash in radiation, mutation, and a relentless mission to send all life to the Beyond.

Starter boxes are, of course, just a start. Want to expand your Skarrd army some more? Check out the Leadership Box. The Skarrd Horde is far reaching and has given birth to several individuals that have proven themselves to rise above the rest. The laboratory-made assassin Saber has her deadly, flashing swords. The original, pretransformation version of Blazon shows loyal troops new ways to kill. Jon Woe, Warwind-turned-Grafter-turned- Heretic Leader, leads from the front with his faithful robotic murder-medic, ANG-1E.

With the Starter Box and the Leadership box, you’re well on your way to a Skarrd force. Time to bulk it up some with the Flesh Echoes Unit Box. Flesh Echoes. A combination of an irradiated, psychogenically-reactive mold, fresh corpses, and dangerous rituals, Mother Blazon and the Reapers of the Decay Cult create these horrors. These monstrosities are puppet-like beings that exist on this side of death only to serve their Mother. Typically made from corpses dragged from overrun Outcast and Forsaken settlements, a front-line of Flesh Echoes has often been able to unnerve even the staunchest defenders on the walls of the next town under attack.

We’re starting 2018 off with a bang!

That cult of decay box is just incredible. Only downside to it is the duplicates and the fact that necromancer blazon makes regular blazon in the command box look like gak in comparison.

I've got to agree. That Decay Cult faction box does look really cool.

I always hated that Blazon model as well. New one is pretty impressive. The two figures next two her are pretty nice looking as well.

Now if I could order it from somewhere that doesn't take multiple months on end to arrive!

No kidding!

I'v been wanting to get a bunch of stuff that's been "Out of Stock" on the CMON store for what seems like forever.

But the minute it shows up as "In Stock" and available to order?

You just know that it won't ship for months after that anyway.

The VERY definition of frustrating...

Well, clearly they *do* care to some extent, as they are continuously releasing (allegedly) fantastic new miniatures for this game.

But they are missing the boat on the 'getting them into the hands of customers" things, for some reason.

Q&A SESSION

January 31, 2018

Hey everyone!

As promised, you asked 10 really good questions about Dark Age, and we are taking a few minutes out of our day to go ahead and answer them to the best of our ability.
We hope you like what you find, and that it sparks good conversations on your various fan pages and the Dark Age Facebook site!

Q&A

Question #1 (from Chris Marshall): “Given where we are in the story line, what drives Saint Luke now? No gate. No ship. No new tech. Jake Flay as his companion in arms. Dwindling band of troops. What keeps the People’s Champion moving forward?”

Answer #1: Saint Luke is still one of the peoples’ champions, and has only been made more so by seeing the horrid evolutions and new creatures of the Brood rising up. Once he and Flay get back to New Ashkelon and find out the horrible things both John and Mary have suffered while Lilith and her cronies maintain their iron grip on the Forsaken people, the Bull Saint will have some interesting words and ideas for his brethren.

Q#2 (from Scott Webster): “What is the next big thing for Dark Age, baring faction updates?”

A#2: A new and improved 2018 Op Kit is the next big thing (aside from card updates and such). It will contain new art cards, new OP event cards, a new tournament style to run, and even a new LE miniature that comes with its own statistics that you could win well before it goes into a larger release in a different form. Stores and demo staff can get their hands on the new OP Kit starting in March!

Q#3 (from Josh Aitken): “Could DA ever expand their fluff via novels etc outside of the rulebooks?”

A#3: We would LOVE to have some secondary media written and published for Dark Age. Right now that isn’t in the cards due to manpower and maintaining a proper budget for our game, but we know that such a fantastic and rich world setting could support volumes of lore and narrative information!

Q#4 (from Daniel Garnett): “With the release of a new Outcast faction will there be any possible additional models to the other outcast factions?

A#4: The new Outcast deck mixes up a few of the different subfactions as to who can run with which subfactions, and people will be surprised (maybe not TOO surprised, if they have been keeping up with the narrative reading) where some of the units will be. We look forward to people seeing the new lists and talking more about them, and I know we will see some new conversions of existing models here and there to work together aesthetically as well as on the battlefield.

Q#5 (from Jerome Inkog Nito): “Are you guys planning to Translate the rules for your Fans in Europe?
German maybe?”

A#5: Planning to? Not at this time. Would we entertain the idea once sales in those areas rise enough to warrant the expense? Absolutely.

Q#6 (from Mikey C): “Why does the Sight of the Prevailers look like it is an elite sniper rather than jetpack infantry?”

A#6: The Sight is a long distance spy/scout that happens to train and fly around with the Skylancers. The “sniper look” of the Sight of the Prevailers is due to its enhanced surveillance and recording equipment, not as much translated in a battlefield role.

Q#7 (from Kristian P Delaney): “Are there any plans to grow the game and community so that new players are brought and hooked in?”

A#7: Every media post, every share to a fan group or gamer web portal, and every Live video is another tool in the toolbox for trying to spread the word and get more people playing. We have a fantastic game system, great world, and one of the best rule sets in the miniature game industry (we might be biased), and it shouldn’t be hard to get people playing once they get a taste. So, what we suggest and plan to do is throw as many “tastes” as we can out in the world and watch the players and fans come in for more.

Q#8 (from Chris Weinstein): “There was discussion by the community on Facebook about the possibility of playing on a 3×3 surface… any chance this may be seen officially?”

A#8: The game is designed and playtested based off a 4×4 table, so there would need to be a LOT of testing and such to make sure a 3×3 field would be fair, or if it would favor extremely fast close combat armies (Air Caste, Brood) too much. Now, we have always thought it might be fun to make special scenarios and themed events that have different sized tabletops, varying deployment zones, and maybe even mismatched force sizes… so, we’d say give it a try and tell us how it goes!

Q#9 (Nikita Startsev): “How big your factions are supposed to be? For example we have Shadow Dragyri with 19 units – what are the odds we gonna have 30-40-50 models in the faction to have more options? Or you are more into new factions with much less model line?”

A#9: We expand the factions and subfactions at a pace that our miniature artistes and casters can supply us, but also we do our best to make sure the various factions represent their narrative in the Dark Age world. Factions that have been around much longer tend to have more options, and new factions are still growing – but get more attention in the present as far as new units come along. Everything gets looked at and no one is forgotten, but there is no hard and fast rule as to where we want each faction, at least in the terms of their possible unit numbers.

Q#10 (from Clayton Conduff): “Is there any chance we’ll see more “historical” type factions/sub-factions, similar to the Followers of the Heretic (Saint Johann)?”

A#10: While there aren’t any plans for official “historic” subfactions, we are always looking for ways to remind the players about Dark Age’s long and deep past. That being said, we are working on “The Year is 518” narrative list of which models are available, which models are “dead”, and some special rules and bonuses certain subfactions or models have in the current narrative Samarian year of 518, making a new and cool way to run narrative-based tournaments or even leagues. It should be very fun, and a way to mix things up!

There you have it! We hope these answers spark off some good conversations and possibly even some debates elsewhere in the fan base!

Thanks for your time, now go play some games!

CORE RULES UPDATED

February 5, 2018

Hello Samarians!

Things are always moving and shaking in the Dark Age team, and that means we are always listening to the places in the game that are crying out for clarification or modification. Today we have a small Errata update for the Master Rules, and very soon we will have some other very interesting Faction Errata later on this month!

OUTCASTS UPDATE

February 14, 2018

Hello Samarians!

With the release of the new 2018 Outcasts Faction Deck coming out this Friday, and with the much-awaited Adepticon tournaments approaching in just over a month, we wanted to make sure that everyone was fully armed with all the information they need to make the purchases they might need to get ready for the big day. So, it is time to go take a look at the new Outcast Faction Web Document and the new stat cards for the new and improved Outcast Faction!

FEBRUARY RELEASES NOW AVAILABLE

February 16, 2018 New Releases

While February tends to mean that love is in the air, on the world of Samaria, people aren’t trading Valentine’s. They’re trading bullets and sword slashes. However, we’re here to give you some love, in the form of this month’s releases for Dark Age. There are two new big boxes, one for Outcast and another for Skarrd. But that’s not all we’ve got for you.

Starting out, let’s take a look at the Outcast Starter Set. The Outcasts are a diverse and scattered people doing their damnedest to survive in the wastes by any means necessary. Whether it is through scavenging useful parts from those fallen before them, throwing their fellow wilderness folk in chains, putting down stakes in a frontier town, or even living a low tech nomadic lifestyle – they will survive. The 500 point force found in this box can be used as part of any Outcast Force, and is a great way to start the faction!

The first thing you’d want to pick up after the Faction Starter is the Outcast Faction Deck. Living off the scraps of the world, Scavengers piece together a life out of junk and salvage. The Slavers of Chains Barrow trade in fear and peddle those unfortunate enough to fall into their shackles. The Salt Flat Nomads eschew technology to live off the poison steppes, bringing deadly beasts to battle alongside their warriors. The Brute Court of Freeton is a community of genetically altered laborers with a focus on fighting for their musclebound democracy. All of the stats needed to play the Outcast Factions in Dark Age can be found within this 54 card deck.

With all those figures, you’re gonna need someone to be in charge. So, you might consider getting the Outcast Brute Court of Freeton Leadership Box. The independent Brutes of Freeton, led by the highly respected Judge Remington Books and his force of fierce Brute Marshalls, is a collection of Outcasts that pride themselves on their freedom, their tenacity, and their willingness to endure all hardships or conflicts in order to further their community’s goals.

As we mentioned above, Outcasts aren’t the only faction getting stuff, of course. And some figures can cross over between factions. Such as what comes in the Misfits and Monsters Box. There are some hunting folk on Samaria that don’t really work with the official Bounty Hunter guilds in Trent or Talen. Instead they work for those willing to pay their prices, of which are rarely something as base as money. These are the Bounty Hunters from elsewhere, aliens, spacefarers, and oddities. Skars, the warped monstrosity made by alien invaders. Suzy Belle, a space pirate officer looking to settle old scores against her captain, often finding the mutant alien beast Wroth nearby, crushing their foes with his bare fists.

We continue along with Skarrd releases with the new Skarrd Cult of Metamorphosis Box. Evolving through the art of grafting, the Cult of Metamorphosis takes the Skarrd mentality of transformation to a higher level. Led by the insidious Father Johann and his loyal servants, the Cult is a collection of monsters of flesh and metal always eager to slaughter anyone getting in the way of their goals for conquest.

Skarrd has another release in the form of the Harpy Unit Box. Many Grafters have dedicated themselves to improving the Harpy design. C.O.R.E. circuitry has made the power flow between a Harpy’s nervous system and her wings more efficient, allowing the wings to be made longer and more beast-like. These improved wings have increased the Harpies’ range. They can catch wind currents and soar for tens of kilometers, spying on locations they never could have reached before.

We finish off this month’s releases with the return of the Brood Spawn Howler, in its new box. One of the Broodmere’s greatest and singularly largest monstrosities ever to crash through the swampy undergrowth, the Howler is an enormous killing machine capable of healing the most egregious of wounds in seconds while tearing the enemy into bite-sized chunks. The Howler’s deafening sonic attacks can be heard for miles around – spreading terror to all those who know that keening howl!

And there you have it. We hope they show our love for you all appropriately. Now get out there and tear your opponent’s heart out!

Wow.

Just...wow!

Especially that Bounty Hunter monster!

Woo! Love when a faction gets updated, really shows how far the game has come over its long life ... and how needed updated sculpts are:

Seeing the reboxed Cult of Meta also has me convinced to wait to see how Cult of Blood ends up, rather then start poking at the current offerings.

I know, right?

I'm still waiting to find that online store that stocks this range in full, and gives us some sort of discount.

Oh!

And shows real, updated stock levels.

That store will get all of the Dark Age Hobby Budget money from me...

Yeah, probably - but hopefully we'll get something!

IF someone is there, please ask them if they've FINALLY figured out how to keep stuff in stock in their own online shop AND if they've FINALLY figured out how to get this thing distributed and in FLGS' and such!!!

They unfortunately have not. Expo is looking like a snooze fest. :(

The show appears to be 95%+ board games (there isn’t even a single Wrath of Kings event) and the tables they DO have set up for Dark Age that I’ve seen in pictures are incredibly boring scatter terrain spread out on vinyl mats. I’m sadly glad I couldn’t go to be disappointed in person, and I’m a diehard DA fan.
