If it's the standard CMoN plastic, it would require either a coat of paint or studio lighting to photograph properly, so those shots are probably not a good representation of final detail.

Then again, if it really is CMoN plastic, I would suggest keeping your expectations average.

Average is a great way to describe the miniatures. I saw these at gencon this year and they were squarely in the OK / Good category. I think most people will enjoy them, just don't expect to be wowed by them.

Thread hasn't been updated in awhile

Delayed until August

Production And Delivery
As we announced some time back, we experienced a production delay, which unfortunately causes ripple effects through the whole process- not only does it just push the overall time-table back, but in doing so it also means each of those steps might experience issues due to re-scheduling as well. We've been working to collect all the information we have so we can get a full view of the new timetable. It has taken some time (as these things do) but we have the following to share regarding new timetables and the general flow of things:

Mass Production should be completed and ready to ship towards the end of May.
From there, it will be around a month shipping overseas to our worldwide hubs.
After arrival at port, some time needs to be accounted for customs, regional travel, and warehouse arrival/sorting.
All in all, the game should be shipping from the local hubs and arriving to your doors in August.
If anything changes in regards to this, we will of course update you accordingly.

I haven't been following this that closely, but is there any word from CMON about future factions or Houses, like Dorne or the Unsullied etc? (Dorne would get me into the game in a heartbeat!)

Nothing concrete yet about what's next but all the major House factions will be getting done one way or another (some may end up being neutral/mercenary to reflect their shifting alleigences). Smart money is on Nights Watch and Wildlings next though there have been rumours of Baratheon (Stannis version) getting in on that side of things (which makes narrative sense after a fashion).

Appatently there is a LOT of stuff ready and waiting to release alongside the game when it hits retail (on, I believe August 31st). Probably a different starter set as well.

Personally I'd guess at a Targeryan (Dany) faction to be a bit further down the line so they can get a handle on balancing the more conventional forces against each other and letting the playerbase get to grips with the game before they let loose some of the more esoteric or highly specialised things like dragons, Unsullied, Dothraki etc. That logic kind of goes out the window if Wildlings are indeed on the way next with all their Wargs, Gianty goodness (and maybe mammoths...).

I received a promo pack of captains at the weekend from a competition win. Really happy with the detail level on the Miniatures although will wait for my pledge to arrive rather than paint the promos.

That from the Facebook group (I'm just curious)?

I really couldn't have any complaints about the miniatures at the Expo demo. Very crisp detail and surprisingly chunky models. Not quite at GW levels (though few, if any, are) and obviously all pre-assembled but a huge step from board game plastics I think some were dreading. The HIPs weapons are the real difference compared to Zombicide, Blood Rage and the like which could suffer from (ahem) 'droopage'.

Don't suppose you fancy measuring the bases for me?

30mm bases (I think I just replied to your post on Facebook asking the same).

And, yep, the prize was from the Facebook group

Nights Watch have now been announced as the next faction -

https://icv2.com/articles/news/view/40572/nights-watch-heroes-join-cmons-song-ice-fire

The Night’s Watch starter set will release on October 26 along with five other expansions, following three Heroes expansions releasing on September 28.
A third faction will emerge onto the tabletop battlefield with the release of the Night’s Watch starter set. This boxed set includes a complete Night’s Watch force, with two units of Sworn Brothers, one unit of Veterans of the Watch, a unit of Ranger Trackers, and heroic leaders to command them including Jon Snow, the Direwolf Ghost, and Jeor Mormont. In addition, the set has dice, tokens, terrain, and the other components needed to play the game.

The Night’s Watch starter set comes with 47 pre-assembled unpainted miniatures, a rulebook, 83 cards, a measuring stick, 71 tokens, 1 tactics board, 11 dice, 5 movement trays, 10 terrain pieces, and 3 castle walls. MSRP is $79.99.

Night’s Watch forces can be expanded with miniatures from three sets releasing in October:

Sworn Brothers adds another unit of core troops for the arm, equipped with strong armor and two-handed greatswords. This set includes 13 unpainted miniatures (12 Sworn Brothers and 1 Watch Captain), a unit card, an attachment card, and a movement tray. MSRP is $34.99.

A ranged element can be added to the army with the Ranger Hunters expansion, featuring a dozen archers, a unit card, and a movement tray. MSRP is $34.99.

Meanwhile, the Builder Scorpion Crew adds a siege engine to the force, which includes a large projectile launcher and its three-man crew on a large movement tray, as well as two unit cards. MSRP is $34.99.

The other factions also get some reinforcements in October:

For House Stark, the Umber Greataxes offer a versatile and flexible unit. This set has a dozen axemen, a unit card, and a movement tray for MSRP $34.99.

House Lannister, meanwhile, can turn to the arcane Pyromancers to add some firepower to their forces thanks to their volatile green “substance.” This unit comes with a dozen figures, a unit card, and a movement tray. MSRP is $34.99.

The Night's Watch look great - I'm seriously tempted now, and I like that you seem to get all the extra stuff in the box with them too (so there's no need to buy the full Stark v Lannister starter box if you don't want either of those forces).

Nightswatch looking good nice and dynamic poses, it makes more sense to buy 2 starters at $80 each than single units at $35. I assume the terrain and castle walls are card like the main box for that price.

I find the Pyromancers quite dull by comparison and having them as a unit is odd as well.

For anyone wondering about UK prices Wayland have the $34.99 sets listed at MSRP GBP£32.99 before their 10% discount so the starter set should be around £75 before discount.

26th of October for the Night's Watch? By amazing coincidence that just happens to be my birthday ... I know what I'm asking for!

I decided my birthday this year will occur on the day the kickstarter arrives. I am going to try to get the grandkids hooked on strategy and tabletop games this summer, so here we go. I am hoping I can make a unique Kingdoms of Men army for KoW as well as play the game as designed, perhaps even put together a fresh Empire army for Oldhammer or T9A if I can find some players. Any thoughts on how this will stack up to Conquest by Para Bellum?

It's a small point but I don't like that the Umber Greataxe standard-bearer also has a greataxe! What is he supposed to use it for? Either he just stands there and gets hacked to gobbets, or he drops the standard in the mud so he can actually use the axe. Not very well thought through really.

Correction on the Nights Watch contents

24 Sworn Brothers
12 Veterans of the Watch (Infantry)
4 Ranger Trackers (these are the cavalry and are armed with bows)
2 Watch Captains
John Snow, Ghost, Maester Aemon, Jeor Mormont, Bowen Marsh

The Ranger Hunters are a separate 12 man archers box and are not the same as the Ranger Trackers as was first thought.

The Free Folk have now been announced as the next faction for a November release.

Hailing from north of The Wall, the Free Folk are more concerned with their nomadic lifestyle than the squabbles between the great Houses. But when they venture south, they are viewed as invaders. With the Free Folk Starter Set, players will be able to field an army of these wandering warriors.

The set includes everything needed to play the game using a Free Folk army, including two complete units of Free Folk Raiders and Savage Giants plus a unit of Free Folk Trappers and characters to lead the army, for a total of 44 miniatures (supplied unpainted). Also included are 84 cards, 1 measuring stick, 71 tokens, 1 board, 11 dice, 5 movement trays, 10 terrain pieces, and 3 castle wall pieces. MSRP is $79.99.

The basic units in the Starter Set can be reinforced by units in four new expansion sets releasing at the same time:

The Crannogman Trackers set offer 12 lightly-armored bowmen plus a Crannogman Warden Unit Attachment, plus 1 unit card, 1 attachment card, and 1 movement tray. MSRP is $34.99.

The Free Folk Raiders set comes with a dozen of these low-cost but hearty warriors who specialize in swarming tactics and fighting in pairs, led by a Raid Leader Unit Attachment, as well as 1 unit card, 1 attachment card, and 1 movement tray. MSRP is $34.99.

Free Folk women are just as dangerous as the men, as indicated by the Spearwives set. This set has 12 warriors plus a Spearwife Matriarch Unit Attachment, 1 unit card, 1 attachment card, and 1 movement tray. MSRP is $34.99.

Rounding out the initial Free Folk forces is the Savage Giants set. These oversized combatants are effectively mobile siege engines that get more angry the more damage they take. A pair of giants is included in the set, along with 2 unit cards and 2 movement trays. MSRP is $34.99.

The forces of House Lannister also receive some reinforcements in November with the Lannister Halberdiers set, which includes 12 men-at-arms equipped with poleaxes and trained to stand firm against enemy charges. An Assault Veteran Unit Attachment, 1 unit card, 1 attachment card, and 1 movement tray round out the set. MSRP is $34.99.

Can’t post pictures from my phone but available here -

The release also includes a New Stark unit and Games Night Kit 2 (really hope these are made available outside the US as the contents have really improved this time).

Now that the first Australian backers have received their pledge I am getting more and more impatient. The quality of the miniatures seems to be great according to the feedbacks.

Guess it will take another month for the EU citizens ...

Surely it makes perfect sense to preview the different available factions before the game is released?

Unless you are referring to the Lannister/Stark starter set, which is not the 'main game' in the same was no 40k starter set is. It is just a Lannister/Stark starter set that they made available through KS.

There are some nice models here - nothing to make me buy though as my unpainted and unused pile is near unsurmountable .
If they do Dothraki cavalry may have to get as I have not got any 28mm (ish) Scythian types.

The sheer amount of models and the details of the models in the boxed set was astounding. I am glad I got the scenery too. There was definately a lot of value in this kickstarter and it looks like it will keep going with the expansions which is excellent.

I have to give this 10 out of 10 stars, the models and terrain are great, the iron thrown is fantastic! I will never paint this many models though, so I came up with something doable, movement trays and bases green to match the tree bases, then pick out the weapons, shields and coat of arms on the surcoat, and leave the rest the base faction colors. is anybody out there going to try and tackle a full paint job, love to see pictures its when done!
