Got massacred by shelob-spider queen combo again. Haven't found good receipt vs them yet. Doubly hard with nazgul around. Try to keep distance? Compel rider closer, charge with spider and throw poor rider into friends dismounting several

Deorwine was nice though. Free heroic combats even with limitations(which once for example prevented him from doing second round but was able to slingshot friend with that) is very handy ability

A Kill Team 200 pt Rusted Claw GSC vs. Hive Fleet Leviathan and Goff Orks on Round 2 Commanders game. The mission was Shifting Priorities. Informed us they were running a little late so we played a game that wasn't too had to have them come in when they finally could get there. The was probably the funniest game of Kill Team I have played yet because I am really liking the GSC and the amount of pure mayhem that happened during the game. I lost every initiate rolling snakes 3 of 5 rounds the game went which was kinda of a struggle with a glass hammer team like I had, but fortunately; it took my opponents a lot longer than it probably should have had to take them out of action.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
[

Note: To speed up getting into the action, both players had double movement for the first round.

Spoiler:

Round 1 before we both knew the Orks were showing. The Tyranids had a swarm that were held up by an Abberant and Rock Drill Acolyte far longer than they should have been.

Above, I had a swarm of hormagaunts backed with a Tyranid Prime and Hive Tyrant bodyguard to the right of me and an Ork Meganob with some Boyz to the left of me. I had Hank, my Rock Drill Acolyte holding back half-a-dozen guants until he finally fell to multiple flesh wounds. My other rock weapon acolyes and a Abberant stalled the Tyranid Prime but only killed its Hive Tyrant bodyguard before the game ended. On the otherside, I had an Abberant destory the Ork shooter while my Kellermorph McKree High-Nooned about 4 other boyz before getting pinned down my hormaguants.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

This pretty much shows the last big 3 fights I was involved in. On the other side of the board the Orks were still tusslin' with the nids in some pretty intense battles too.

Last game of LOTR tournament for me. Up against easterlings in clash of champion. Lousy scenario for me forcing leaders face each other in the middle and then terrain that made my life super hard. Vs F4 pike phalanx that had maximum ratio of pikes(never works for me because that gets flanked...) with terrain ensuring I can't DO any flanking.

Add to that losing initially key with me rolls so Theoden died quickly and that made it sure I'm 100% quaranteed to lose the game. Even if he kills nothign and I wipe his army I lose. There's no way I could legally win any more. I just had to try to break him and then get him to quarter before I break for some vp's at least. Deorwine was a hero all game(especially when Theoden was alive. At one point killing 2 easterlings and captain in single turn) ensuring I broke him but alas he broke me on same turn I got him to 25%. Too many of my 1 on 1 on charges resulted with dead rohan rider.

This is was a 200pt Commnaders Kill Team game custom narrative mission. The GSC had broke in to a Necron tomb and stolen precious technology (represented by the indivulallly based GSC Banner). The Necrons were none too pleased by this theft and were attemping to clock all escape routes from the above ruined Imperial city.

The mission was for the objective carried by a unit to Move (and only Move) to 1 of the 6 objectives before 7 rounds had passed in which the Necrons would have been able to set up a perimeter where no escape would be possible. At the start of every round the Necron player would remove one of the escape points of their choosing until only one remained. However, the GSC could also position a unit on any escape point to prevent the Necron from removing that point.

This game worked out pretty well. Much better than I expected as I am usually bad a designing these kinda of mission types. I gave the objective to my Kellermorph (seemed the best choice at the time) and setup a melee wall to shield him as he crept up to the remaining objectives. Once I got close, I move my ranged fire team to try and surround the Kellermorph to prevent him from getting blocked or locked/killed in melee combat. In the end, I managed to get the objective off the board but not before losing a good chunk of my team with the Necrons only taking a few scratches here and there.

The picture show the remnants of my melee wall (left side of pic) who were all shaken. On the right is my Kellermorph surrounded my the rest of my team save a couple of Neopythes that were holding an escape route on the other side. Oh, and yes, pictured is all that was left of my kill team at the end of the game when at the beginning it was like 16 models.

Thanks, Boss.

We've found the wooded hills actually make the game far more interesting. Our rules are simple:

1) You can see into, or out of the wooded hills (any foam piece with trees on it...the trees are a marker and moving them is completely fine, they just indicate it's a wooded area)
2) You cannot see through a wooded hill (one side to the other).
3) Units on the hill count as being in cover.

Supremely simple and solves the line-of-sight issues which plague 40K. Suddenly there are places to hide everything. Since the placement of the trees is irrelevant, we shift them around mid-game to accommodate miniatures, etc. It's been an excellent addition to limit the madness of 8th.

Woods rules straight outta WHFB / KOW I can see how they enhance W40K's gameplay as well. Also +1 to giving vegetation a reason to exist in the grimdark.

Yep, not reinventing the wheel, just simple rules that solve the "terrain doesn't matter!" cries about the game.

Also, I grew up on 2nd edition, so my idea of a 40K table is still pretty darn green when I can manage it.

You know, stuff like this:

Yep, all the hills (1" and 2" versions) are made from high density upholstery foam (available on eBay for around $25-30 a roll for a 6'x2' roll). I detailed it in another thread on here just a few days back.

Played against my pal's oven fresh Custards, phew those bikes take some heat to bring down (here rushing through the woods in Cut off the Head, half of their number already shot to smithereens). DG resilience and actually playing the objective won thrice in a row, who'd have thunk

Necrons vs orks. Both took toned down lists, his was lot more toned down. Nightbringer, annihilator barge, cryptek and 5 immortals died, he surrendered with 6 grots and weirdboy left and me double vp's.

Doom's day ark(just one) was brutal. And not because of main gun that did very little but floating tough(his traktor guns kept bouncing from quantum shields) and 20 s4 -1 shots.

Necrons vs dark angels+knights in last round of escalation league. As I suspected last round saw plenty of super heavies(IG had baneblade last week and this week apart from this army there was custodian+ig+2 helverin 2 questor army and frigging warhound titan as well. Dark angels had attropos knight and 2 helverins. Target rich enviroment with repulsor as well.

I got first turn which was huge as got 2 rounds to shoot at big knight which was enough. After that though he was less spectacular whiffing 3 turns plus turn when yes did blew out helverin but doomsday ark would have done same job anyway.

12-8 win for necrons. Both sides lost warlords(atropos for him, command barge for me dying to double smite and infiltrators hacking away.

Less tables being used means what is available is more easy to fit rather than having to scourge anything that even remotely blocks LOS to the board just to have terrain that impacts the game.

btw funny little tale about that game. See those marines at the bottom of picture? Librarian in phobos armour and some infiltrators. I moved my army, fired and then looked down and went "wait what are these guys!?!". They were real sneaky infiltrators! Okay I HAD noticed during deployment them going there but entirely forgot them during first turn so literally missed. I could have actually got annihilator barge into position to shoot at them had I remembered them...

...well we both were having memory issues this game for some reason. I constantly had to remind him how many shots etc he got with helverins etc. "I had 6 shots? No. 8" I would have had jolly good time cheating had I wished to be TFG just agreeing with him! Not sure why this game was so bad for us. (and he specifically kept forgetting stuff to HIS disadvantage. One time he declared stubbers vs my scarabs and I had to remind him twice to actually shoot those as he moved to shoot with other stuff )

Battlefield Picture (The servo-skulls were placed where Orks once stood before being removed)

Spoiler:

Ground Level Picture

Not the best photos I have taken mostly as I was focused on teaching during this game of Kill Team. It was a 100 points of Orks (me) vs. Primaris Space Marines (my miniatures) core rules only, Command Points for re-rolls only. In retrospect, I should have brought the combat knife Reivers, but my Primaris where with me more for a Commanders game instead of a demo game. I gave the new player the option of a Scouts or Primaris team. The Primaris Team was trying to be the easy-to-build options (Bolt Carbines not withstanding) as this was a younger player who probably couldn't afford much even in the way of Kill Team.

The mission was simple kill points which I like to run Orks vs. Marines even though my Orks outnumber 1.5-2:1. I like it being very challenging for me to win in these sort of games. I was a little concerned about this one being one sided with me winning though. The marine player deployed backwards to what I would have having his Reivers in a better gun line position than his Intercessors. I even made sure he was aware that the Intercessors were the ones that had the longer ranged guns and the Reivers had the ability to ignore vertical movement. The second issue was that the marine player was really struggling to hit my Orks as they advanced forward. Again, part of this was the issue that they didn't position very well and suffered long range shots with the bolt carbines first round. It also didn't help that my Orks finally decided they were tired of always missing and seemed to roll 6s half the time. I finally even had my Rokkit Launcha hit not once but twice. Something he hadn't done in the dozen or so games I have played him before.

However, despite struggling at range, the marine player held his own when it came to melee. It wasn't until my Boss Nob managed to get into combat that things again turned for the worst for the marines. The Marines kept chipping away at the boss and eventually killed him which also forced a Break Test where I failed on loss. Still, I removed far more Primaris than I expected this game also forcing the Marines to make a Break Test.

125pts of Black Legion vs. Hivefleet Kronos Kill Team game

Pictured is my Plasma Pistol Posse (Aspiring Champion, Berserker Champion and Berserker Destroyer) demonstrating why there is 'literally' no downside to supercharging plasma all the time. I only lost the Destroyer to a plasma mishap and nearly lost the Aspiring Champing too from an overwatch shot before I remembered I had CP to re-roll and melted a warrior instead.

Spoiler:

This was a fun what-if game where two Tyranid (Jorgmungandr and Kronos) teams fought a Leviathan carnifex. It was tough to coordinate as the Kronos team wanted to shoot for a couple rounds where Jorgmungandr pretty much wanted to get into melee right away. It took a few rounds and most of the Jorgmungandr team to wiped out by the teams managed to subdue the carnifex in the end.

What can I say, the Cicatrix Maledictum affected Hivefleet Kronos in strange ways. I am really interested in seeing the Tyranid player's kill team when it gets all painted up. I really like his 80's cyber-neon paint job. It makes my Jorgmungandr nids look incredibly plain. I think it works really well for monsters that hunt at the fringe of the warp. I imagine it as constantly shifting like an iridescent lava lamp which actually makes excellent camouflage in the warp.
