Not where I should be

I understand your feeling towards this lot, in so far as you are painting them, but not really interested in them. It is a shame.

You have done a really brilliant paint job on this, but somehow even when you are trying to make it look a bit dirty, it still comes out clean and tidy. Also at this rate you're going to be through them quick.

No worries bud, it is all good, soon be done and back to more pleasant things.

@Zerg - Thanks, I got the idea from another painter who I've known for a while, he put a gloss varnish on his one and it really looked good!

@Graven - I am all for CC, in fact its quite the refreshing honesty I expect from ya! I whole heartily agree with your observations, it is to crisp, there is no weathering nor goop, nor corrosion. These are the exact things I would add if I were to add another pass at the models, It wont happen today, probably not in the next two years, but when I do come back to add more, that's what you can expect

@Nev - These guys would need to adhere to the crisp and grey mentality to get that treatment

@LDP

@Cam - Don't get me wrong these models are insanely detailed, If they had been released like this back in 2011 I would have done a DG army without question! Now imagine that as a change to this blog!

@Gits - Thanks

Update: On to the lord of contagion.

Still brilliant and beautiful work sir. I truly wish I had half your skills with a brush. So tidy.

Cool to see a different scheme from what GW recommends. Your color choices should work very well!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

Right so your going for one and done for now and perhaps hit them again in the future, it's all good. Means you can get onto other stuff as well.

Bloat drone looks good, like others have said a bit too clean, but perhaps it's a newly "shoved in a machine" daemon that hasn't had a chance to be too nurgled yet

LOC looking good, intriguing to see yellow smoke, keen to see what you do with that.

@Cam - So weird, I look at the model and instantly see overspill. I guess thats the curse of painting your own models, you tend to focus on the items which aren't perfect, thanks for the kind words however

@Zerg - Funnily enough this scheme was determined back in October 2015, back when I did some plague marines in a quick scheme to this
Spoiler:

@Mad - This hits it on the head, get them done quick now, means I could go back at a later point and save myself so much time having to not do base/wash stages

Update: Lord done

Not where I should be

You know something, these are really growing on me, was looking at that last, and thought they look ancient, dusty, kinda ghostly, actually a cool look for these. I think the army will look quite cool.

Most of that is due to your hyper-clean paint work, if I took these to this stage and stopped it would look like a massacre in a paint factory.

@Gits - Thanks Gits

@Cam - A massacre is sometimes whats required to get the job done, I can't wait to take a full shot of all these models I think it'll be very cool

@Gits - chur, I wanted any cloth to look like a basic flesh layout, if/when I go back for another run it'll be a diseased flesh look.

Wow, nice. I like the fleshy-pink cloth. It stands out nicely from the green while still being a very subdued color.

Nice. Spot of color on the plasma pistol really makes a difference.

@AshNomad - Thanks for commenting, it means a lot any particular model you like the most (even from the back catalogue)

@Gits - Yeah, I was going to do it yellow to keep the colour palette down, but it looked really bad, so orange it is!

Update: Group shot - I got through these guys quite quickly, so I'm going to add a Tyranid commission to the push to inflate the model count. Stay tuned

Those Death Guard, while perhaps a bit too clean for my tastes, are really well done. You also blew through them a lot quicker than I ever could and still made them look good! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the bugs!
