Devil County USA

Hello there Dakkasaurs, Dr. Muchachos here. I've decided it's time to start showing off what I'm painting as it will kick me in the bony butt to get some things finished and sold off. You see, while I do play 40k a bit, I mainly like converting and painting and telling stories, so I bought a bunch of models, hacked them together and now I'm going to paint them and probably sell them off to fund more models to cut up and paint. Anyhow, in the meantime I'll end up playing some games here and there while I'm building a sellable force, so this log will follow one such build up and paint, and if I play any games with these fools then I'll throw up a battle report deal. Ok so on to the pics...

The cultists are mostly done, I've got to add their blood painted chaos symbols to their rags, and of course finish the champion and the heavy gunner as well as the last robed dude in the back.

Yes, yes I'm not a photographer, just a painter so I'm working on a setup that will allow me to take better pics as well as show off my newest awesome little portable battleboard as it gets more finished as well...

Any comments are welcome, and I will be doing a full background for this army on my blog, sworntoheresy.blogspot.com soon. Thanks for checking it out!!

So here's some better (I think) pictures of the rhino that started this army. The missile pod is removable so when it gets blown up I can toss it across the room in frustration that it never quite lasts long enough to do any real damage. The cultists usually ride in it because they are even squishier without it, but it actually belongs to the as yet unpainted Possessed freaks.

...and of course some really rough works in progress of the winged sorcerer fellow and a few terminators. All of these are conversions and aside from the Possessed and some of the cultists the rest of the army will be converted in some way. I am a big fan of the old rogue trader renegades, when chaos looked...well, chaotic. These guys will be finished, along with the remaining cultists, by this Friday as now that I'm posting them online it will bother me to all hell if they don't get finished.

And of course, I will make an effort to take better pictures.

Vive le Muchachos....

Your cultist jerks look great and I love the three eyed skull icon on your rhino. Neat stuff so far.

Hey thanks a lot. Like I said I know the photos aren't that great but I've been reading online I think I'll build a little booth today...

Use the macro setting on your camera and take pictures outside or with sunlight from a window in the mid-morning or early evening. Failing that, get a solid color object like a sheet of foamcore or a mailing envelope and prop it up behind your models. You can use tracing paper over a lap bulb to diffuse the light. I also recommend at least 2 light sources.

Excellent, yes I will try the window with another light and a box. I was reading about the boxes just now should be simple enough to build. Btw I love your terrain blog, it's what got my son and I into building our own boards and buildings. Fantastic work!

The rhino looks great. Though I have to agree you need more light. IKEA has great clamping desk lamps for £10 that would be ideal for painting and photography.

Thanks Silver. I've been searching for some of my desk lamps just little things with the clamps but as I mostly paint large oils on canvas now I've lost them to the madness of the lair so to speak. Ikea may just be the ticket I will check them out for sure! Hopefully with you guys' advice I can get real pictures up here soon and folks can really see if the miniatures are well painted or just plain sucky hahaha

So with the help of Warboss and Silver I've gotten much better results with the photos and also managed all on my own to finish up the Cultist jerks finally, well mostly finished. They need a bit of touch up but I started writing the story for the army instead of touching them up. With that in mind I am restarting this thread now...for the last time...of starting...ok here goes...

Seasons in the Abyss...so it begins...

...and at their backs was ruin, and the ground wept blood at their passing. From the dusk they came with bloodshot, bulging eyes and a hate that crowded the air around them. Wails of the dying, of those they had once called masters, shivered through the air of the desert. Towards the coming dusk they marched, their broken banner dragging it's jagged footprint through the dead earth. Towards the coming Season they marched, ever growing in number, drawn to the ones whom the Book of Seasons had called forth in their hour of discontent...towards the ones who promised them power and retribution...

...and as he looked towards the coming dark, their leader, whom time would call Blindeye the Son of Murder, took a ragged breath and quickened their pace towards damnation...

I do realize the pics still aren't awesome, but I'm making a hard and fast effort to get them up to snuff so if you think the work is worth it then keep an eye here and they will improve...fast. Thanks for watching.
