Hello and welcome to the battle reports section for our campaign here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/631406.page

As we complete games throughout the year battle reports, grainy photos and super-high quality background fiction will appear.

Chapter 1 part 1 (Astra Miltarius Guard V Farsight Enclaves 750pts) can actually be found here also, but perhaps a kind soul will try and work out how to move it?: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/60/631406.page

Here's our opening background:

The recently warp-isolated imperial human world of Scrotox XIII is currently being 'liberated' by the Tau and preyed upon by the Dark Eldar slavers simultaneously at the same time. Tau and Dark Eldar clash as a result, allowing a loyalist human element to contact the wider Imperium, who dispatch a conveniently close Ultramar PDF regiment to quell the rebellion/Tau presence, only to find that the Emperor's finest are already in orbit and understandably rather miffed about all this messing about with factions and are attempting to install their own power-armoured leadership.
The planet is known only for its large, chicken-like life forms, the skins of which are used to make and export handbags across the galaxy. A vital source of fashion without which Mankind may well be destined for darkness.
Its Imperial designation is Scrotox XIII or B'aulbag if you speak fish.

Methuselah Soulfelcher lanquished.

It had been days since the last influx of slaves, fine wines and cured Scrotmeats had appeared from Scrotox VIII. He felt restless, or was it something else? Moreso, boredom.

For a number of years the planet had been under his dark stranglereign, there were problems daily but recently he cared not for them. At first it was the resistance of the local inhabitants, Scrot farmers mostly, to his mind, they were easily quashed and spirits were broken within the first few months of contact. Since then any uprisings had been dealt with in a manner befitting his cruel nature, he idly trailed his fingers down the length of a human skin lined corridor as he paced the rooms of his vast palace. The recent Tau activity on the planet had been a thorn in his side but, to the most part, hostilities were infrequent and easily ignored. Should it ever come to the need for all-out war then matters could be taken further. He relished the thought. Over the decades the Kabal of the Bloodied Mists had grown in number, the legacy of the Soulfelcher’s would finally come to something of worth now that his father was out of the way. He stopped for a moment to recall how satisfying it was to twist the knife as the old man’s eyes faded, the daydream soon passed.

Maybe now would be the time to stretch his iron fist, why not? With supplies running out on Scrotox and the ‘interests’ of the Tau becoming irksome why not just leave the planet as a husk and move on to bloodier pastures. Yes, that’s it, soon he would ready his troops and begin the final phase of the conformance of Scrotox VIII but for now sleep and to dream of fresh conquest.

Commissar Combrink was worried. There were not outward signs but the situation was going from bad to worse.

*click clank*

The landing flotilla of Higgins Assault ships had been caught in a sudden warp squall, Combrink had seen some explode, others simply cease to be and so far, only his had made the rendezvous. His pilot had effected a text book crash landing and had succeeded in only killing himself. The troops were alive but stranded miles from the capital, their objective.

*click clank*

Unable to achieve Vox contact with anyone and having no Astropath they had managed to reach the capital on their own. Once the had entered the city of Testea, a short interview with the planetary governor showed him to be a traitor. He was in talks with the filthy Tau and ready to succeed to their Empire when the Dark ones attacked, his Astropath sent the standard call from help and he set about trying to cover his tracks. Not well enough, Combrink had been smelling out traitors, cowards and mutants for years and saw through his petty facade. One bolt round to the face later and that problem was solved. Now they just had to cow the entire populace of an M class planet....

*click clank*

He cocked and fired his empty bolt pistol in an absent minded fashion. Then there was the officer commanding, Captain Steiner, his plan had been to dig in and await reinforcement instead of taking the fight to the foul xenos, his cowardice had to be remedied before it infected the ranks...

*click clank*

In extremis Commissars were taught to apply the 'Litany'

BE PURE
BE VIGILANT
BEHAVE

This was all he had now. This tiny force was all he had to destroy 2 alien factions and quell a populace that had truck with the extraterrestrial. A force that was nearly half conscripts and only a handful had been in hard fighting before. However there was a chance that other elements of his regiment would arrive sooner or later and there had been a garbled transmission that seemed to be of Space Marine origin, they could surely be their deliverance, provided they too; weren't mutants and traitors.....

*click clank*

".........Excuse me Lord......."

Combrink snapped out of his reverie and looked at the blood spattered corporal.

"Yes Corporal Jenkins?"

".........er Do you wish us to remove...well.....that...." He indicated the headless body of Captain Steiner.

"mmmmm .....................Yes please, by the way, you have command of 3rd Platoon now Lieutenant Jenkins.."

"....err Me? ...................I mean I won't let you down sir!

"Oh I know that Jenkins, I know"

The Manta's drop bay was serene; silent save for a comfortingly familiar throb of contained destructive energy. As Shas'Vre Arg'Os C'Tau Log moved deeper toward the vessel's rear and inspected the seven battlesuits docked within, he hung on to the familiarity for there was little of it to be found elsewhere.

Arg'Os, a newly apointed 'Vre had been assigned to support the mysterious commander El Vior'Myr in what the Enclaves Council had referred to as a 'typical insurrection mission'. Arg'Os had briefed his Crisis Teams once the assignment had arrived, and without ceremony the small Cadre had boarded a Manta and it was here, staring up at what felt like the lifeless bodies of his family, he wondered if there would be anything 'typical' about this endeavour.

The Manta, Doran Elro'ch, was now orbiting B'Aul B'ag, and Arg'Os could only assume that the El's small force were alive, ensconced somewhere on the planet below. None of the transmissions sent from the Doran had received a response. Perhaps the Council has dispatched his teams too late.

Arg'Os reassured himself that whatever the fate of his new Commander, his Cadre would have a role to play on B'Aul B'ag, and as he span on his hoof and started back to his comrades in the stasis pod he came face to face with one of the Cadre's support drones.

“Beep, blop, bloooop!” The drone flitted about excitably, circling Arg'Os on an attempt to capture his attention.

“What is it L'assie? You want me to follow you?” Arg'Os replied with a tone of worn tolerance.

“Blooooooop!” The drone shot off towards the Doran's combat information centre.

Arg'Os was out of breath as he clattered into the CIC to find the Doran's serenity well and truly shattered – lights flashed, consoles chattered and warning alarms now sounded across the vessel.

“Doran, alert details, now!” shouted Arg'Os as he simultaneously depressed a stud on his coms band, alerting the rest of his Cadre and tearing them from stasis.

The Doran's central AI routed the report audio through the drone which was still orbitting Arg'Os.

“Three status alerts. ONE: Radiation signature detected. B'Aul B'ag [atmospheric level]. [Supposition] explosion. TWO: Unknown orbiting vessel detected. [Supposition] hostile. THREE: Ground units in combat. [Response logic] Deploy Crisis Teams and drone support?”

“Do it!” barked the Shas'Vre as he thundered back toward the Manta's drop bay.

As he reached the drop bay Arg'Os could already see the canopies of his two crisis teams snap shut, and the room was filled with a coordinated hiss of steam as the battlesuits re pressurised. Arg'Os threw himself into his own battlesuit and could feel the readiness of its systems even before the unit's HUD came online.

“We're aiming for Testea, the capital!” came a shout of the Cadre's coms. 'Ui Ka'Mesa had interrogated the rest of the Doran's alert data. “It's part of El Vior'Myr's unit down there – two large battlesuits, probably XV88. In combat and surrounded!”.

Soon the flow of data became meaningless, the bay hatch had opened and the Cadre were ejected into space to begin their thunderous plummit to the planet below...

The Conformance of Scrotox XIII Chapter 1, part 1 (Dark Eldar V Farsight Enclaves)...

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

As the Cadre broke through the clouds, Shas'Ui B'Nim dialed in on the XV88 team down on the ground.

“Ar'Cea raiders closing in on the '88s” he stated calmly over the team's communication network.

Arg'Os strained to hear over the thunder of air resistance and responded to his Cadre as a whole.

“Teams, take cover and support the 88's on the right flank – cripple their transports before they reach your line. I'll take the right and engage their assault teams with the drone squadron”.

“Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Bloop!” the drones responded to the honour by switching position mid-drop and forming a crude facsimile of the Tau symbol for love...

Big bums never tire, dawn of war, 750pts.

The battlefield:

I had won both the first turn and edge choice, so deployed Broadsides and missile/marker teams where they would have the clearest shared line of sight in order to support one another. Commander and drones where placed behind some cover on my left flank in the hope they could snag an isolated flanker or just redeploy using their 3D6 thrust Warlord trait.

Alex made use of the hard cover along his line to protect his Kabalites, and attempted to protect his (empty) raiders and HQ/Incubi Venom behind a taller ruin on his left flank facing the majority of my force. He deployed both Wytch units isolated on his right, with one team inside its Venom.

We generated and placed 6(?) objectives around the place while paying little mind to how they might effect the battle.

This was Alex's first engagement with 6th/7th ed Tau, and my first ever date with Dark Eldar.

Much cheese was seized as Alex suddenly grabbed the first turn!

Turn 1:

The Dark Eldar infantry stay ominously still while the slightly exposed raiders breath a sigh of cheese-seized relief and reposition themselves to get rounds downrange at the broadsides – the shots unfortunately miss, however the Archon's Vemon manages to destroy two marker drones from a Crisis Team. One of the Kabby's Dark Lances sees an opportunity and doubles out a XV8 – Bloody S8 organic heavy weps!

Both Crisis Teams jump out from their cover and kill one of the Raiders, gaining First Blood. The XV88 team hits up the remaining Raider but he's saved by intervening cover. Arg'Os advances on the left flank with his drones.

Turn 2:

On the Dark Eldar right, the Wytch Venom exposes itself (ooh er!) slightly to target Arg'Os but fails to cause damage. One again the central Kabbies kill an XV8 with their Dark Lance.

Missiles, Marker Lights and Heavy Rail-rifles do for the 2nd Raider, and the XV8 teams hide jump back behind their cover. Arg'Os jumps into Fusion/Pulse range and peppers the Wytch Venom with 18 hits on target but all four of the resultant glances/pens are saved by cover! A gun drone commits suicide on a sharp twig as they extract :(.

Turn 3:

In a concerted effort, the Kabalites and Venom strip the remaining Marker Drones from both Crisis Teams. No more ignores cover for you! The foot-Wytches advance closer to Arg'Os.

Having destroyed their primary targets, the Broadsides overkill a few Kabalites and the Crisis Teams explode the Archon's Venom, wounding him in the process. The XV8's suffer two wounds from dangerous terrain. Arg'Os and drones again fail to kill the remaining Venom on the Tau left flank.

Turn 4:

After some drawn out discussion regarding at which point the Power From Pain rule grants Dark Eldar units 'Fleet', the Wytches and de-shelled Incubi check their spikey pain watches and begin to move towards two mid-field objectives. Both Kabalite units target the Broadsides but fail to make a mark.

Arg'Os engages his target lock and finally melts the Wytch Venom. The Wytches emerge unscathed and unpinned while the other Wytch unit suffers minimal casualties from the Gun Drone squadron on account of stacked PfP buffs. The Tau firebase on the left flank start to chip away at the incubi protecting both the Archon and an objective.

Turn 5:

The Wytches move to assault the Tau Commander and 'secure' the objective he is sitting on. Despite 18 twin-linked pulse snap shots, the Wytches take zero casualties and win the combat for three disassembled drones. The unit holds. Shooting on the Dark Eldar left is limited as the Kabalites make a late run to reinforce some objectives.

Arg'Os remains locked in combat with both Wytch units while the remaining Crisis and Broadside teams pour fire onto a Kabalite unit in a vain attempt to knock them off an objective – various casualties are caused but not enough to make a difference. During the Tau's thrust moves, another drone gives up the ghost (in the shell) and strangles itself with discarded six-pack packaging. The roll of a dice confirms turn six!

Turn 6:

Both Commanders start to dribble as complex mental arithmetic is performed. Shots are fired, close combat is indecisive and the dust settles to reveal a Dark Eldar victory on account of objectives.

Final Victory Point Score: DE 9 to FE 4!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Arg'Os engaged his battlesuit's jet and dropped carefully onto a rocky vantage point. The Ar'Cea had suffered severe causalities and their craft lay in ruins however they continued to surge forward on foot, seeming to ignore the relentless missile suppression almost as if pain itself invigorated them.

“Cadre, it's time to move; We'll consolidate at the Gates of Testea. We cannot engage these creatures at close quarters”.

The battlesuit teams responded without question and moved to provide a cover fire solution, allowing the battered XV88 teams to fall back...

Bristol!

I can move it..

Here's chapter 1 subsection b area 9, classified as classified.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Commissar Combrink surveyed the building through his magnoculars, it looked ordinary enough.

"There sir" suggested Lieutenant Jenkins as he pointed at a sudden movement.

"Xenos sighted" said Combrink under his breath. Jenkins was proving a capable officer, not inspired but competant and the commissar didn't want too much initiative.
"Very well deploy the men to attack from all directions, lets make this swift"

"Yes sir!"

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Industrial wasteland near the Capital of Testea. All terrrain by MLCS.

Deployment: Dawn of Waaargh Mission: Emprah's Will

I ended up with the Right side of the table on the above pic and deployed my single objective in the big building in the background..

Mew

MLCS deployed his in the diagonally opposite building (big one in the foreground).

Bleep Bloop

Macragge XV in all their glory.

Filthy Xenos.

Our lists are in the Campaign thread, link above. Mine contains my new unit of conscripts which are half done, some riflemen from the same platoon filled in, and my new priest seen here for the first time.

Deployment.

The Tau piled there entire force into their objective building, either in it or behind it.

2 Crisis teams with marker drones.

Broadsides command the heights.

Deploying opposite the Russ 'Old Reliable' enfiladed the skulking xenos gaining LOS to a Crisis team now in the open. It was bubble wrapped by the Conscripts and the PCS led from behind.

In my centre I deployed my Mech Vets ready to storm to the other side of the table.

On the Imperial right in my objective building I deployed my Infantry and Rocket battery.

Initial thoughts.

My massive numerical advantage was painfully obvious to both of us. He was poorly equipped to deal with a sea of troopers and the Russ at the other end of the spectrum. I expected him to cluster in his building so deployed to assault it on several fronts. The tank and conscripts would move forward putting fire on whilst awaiting his DS commander with his large entourage of gun drones (who are good at shooting Troopers). He'd rolled the 'DS without error' trait which was huge as now his double melta hitting on 2+s hero will blow up my tank. At least the Conscripts and PCS should be able to make him pay with his Warlord point. The Vets will hoss across the table to threaten his suits with their meltas and maybe go for linebreaker. The infantry will hold the objective in case he made a move for it and the AC and Rockets can lend some fire support. I know his fancy suits are very flexible and deadly but by painting himself into a corner I hope to leave him with nowhere to go. He can't stop every attack can he?

AND SO IT BEGINS...

No cheese is seized.

Tau open the ball by the Crisis teams marker lighting the Russ, the Sniper Broadsides took boosted aim on the Russ and slammed high velocity solid iron-nickel penetrater rounds into the ground near it. That was their turn as the HQ was in DS reserve.

The IG moved forward as one. The Russ dominated flank began the turn by trundling forward, the conscripts used the new order that lets them shoot and run, they managed a few wounds on the drones who made their saves. They then managed a 1 on a run roll.

The Russ opened fire and missed the suits in the open by a mile, as an afterthought the hull gunner closed his eyes and blazed away with his heavy bolter, 2 6s later 2 of the drones in the open were wrecked.

None one forms such strong attachments to their frisbees as Tau however and the unit off 3 suits fled the field. Oops. MLCS goes to his happy place (it says so in his notes).

The distant IG base finds it's heavy weapons out of range and so advances, the snap fire manages a few hits but no damage.

The Commissar takes charge of the IG home objective. Mew?

The Vets flat out to complete the encirclement.

The Shas'o surveyed the scene and leaped from his circling manta. Arg'Os! Roll out!!

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/P7GeisRaias" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Hmm embed code wont work, here's a link: https://youtu.be/P7GeisRaias

He took aim at the Russ's rear and lets fly with 2 Meltas, one still misses (BS5) the other blew out the HB causing a HP. The cloud of killer frisbees decide to finish the job and unleash twinlinked BS5 fusilade into the tender rear armour. 3 HPs are caused but I make 2 cover saves for the intervening guardsmen leaving the tank with 1 HP.

He then sheepishly moves away from the angry tank...MLCS retreats further into his happy place...

The Broadsides smack a APFSDS round or 2 into the front armour of the Russ, the high tech weaponry is defeated by foot thick chobham armour...

The last Crisis team crack off a few Missiles into the Chimera immobilizing it.

The Russ moves it max speed (6!) away from the scary robot and fires at the suits occupying the Tau building and again misses by miles. The infantry reposition to swarm said robot..

CHARGE! The cloud of Frisbees unleash a massive volley of snapfire in defence of their leader, the high energy bolts could hardly miss with such a press of bodies and Flakk armour proved no defence..5 conscripts were slain and 1 member of the PCS was killed by their close combat attacks.

Undeterred by such losses whilst under the direction of the chaplin, the raw recruits flailed with rifle buts and bayonets and smashed all but one of the drones into the ground (re rolls to hit from the priest helps! but he fails to pronounce his hymn correctly). Arg'Os looked about him and decided only heroism would save him and issued a challenge, Jenkins stepped forward and failed to harm the robot with his chainsword. In return Arg'Os utilised and ancient form of martial arts he'd seen in a film once and bludgeoned the entire PCS down!

Action shot!

The Veterans debuss from the crippled Chimera and occupy the ruin next to the Tau base, they fire a few shots at the Crisis team but to no effect. They were in a position to either hunker down and claim LB or assault the Tau base however.

The final turns..

There are only a few pics here as the game began to feel played out..

Arg'Os found himself in a sea of flashing bayonets and stamping boots, whilst he held out for many rounds and challenged the priest repeatedly (who skulked at the back and tried to remember how he chorus went), he managed to kill a few more 3pt meat shields but was eventually ground down.

The Russ pounded away and managed to finally roll a hit and flatten 2 suits, leaving the Tau base held by only 2 'Sides and 1 suit with a drone buddy. The Broadies continued to fail to take the last HP off the venerable tank..

The Veterans advanced and put some minor fire out, they were targeted by the 'Sides and remaining suit and went to ground but after a flurry of 1s followed and their nerve failed and they fled to the tenuous safety of the nearby craters, this was good for the communist space camel-fish but it was too little too late...

The IG firebase moved to get in range but failed to make much impact..

We called the game on turn 4 (ish) as there was only 4 Tau left. The mighty IG had been proved the mightier (mostly due to some horrible rolling) but thems the breaks when you only have 9 models (plus the frisbees). Still everyone had fun so we were both the winner really.

Ahhhh.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Commissar Combink toed the corpse of Lieutenant Jenkins, Lad showed promise and led from the front, no more could be asked of him...he kicked the officers bolt pistol and the heavy, dangerous and unwieldy weapon contacted the boot of corporal Smythe who paled visibly. The Commissar with the ghost of a smile and a fixed stare congratulated the new leader of 3rd Platoon. "Well done I saw the charge against the Xenos abomination, stirring......collect the men we move now....there is still the unclean nearby.....I can smell them...."

The new officer picked up the spattered pistol, it was heavy......Smythe's head spun as he stooped, he was only just recovering from the severe concussion he'd received from a flailing limb of the robot thing and the grisly death of his academy mate Jenkins, now he was supposed to lead?

Combrink surveyed the after action report, the butchers bill was mostly amongst the expendable...nothing a few forcible volunteerings amongst the locals couldn't fix, give them the 30 mins it takes to learn to operate a lasgun and some standard issue fatigues and that was it....now to the next nest of villainy...

Smythe eventually realised that he was dismissed as the black garbed commissar seemed to just be staring into the middle distance, endlessly ratcheting the mechanism of his ornate golden pistol..."errr..BURIAL DETAIL!, he shouted giving his first order...

Good report. Seemed like a lot closer battle than the VPs suggested. I thought the tau would hand the lightly armored Dark Eldar their skinny arses, but twas not to be...

And for the record, hundreds of drones every year are trapped and killed like this in plastic packaging, along with squigs swallowing unmarked discarded Xfactor contestants, then choking on the bile, and ripper swarms caught in the cavernous interior of Katie Price, after the cruel irony of being drawn there by the smell of carrion.

Behold!

The Conformance of Scrotox XIII Chapter 1, part 3.333 (Blood Angels V Farsight Enclaves)...

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The ground shook as the two Crisis Teams landed gracelessly amid the ruins of another Imperial building; a crumbled reminder of the old ways of Scrotox. Checking her long-range scanner, B'Nim confirmed what they had been hoping for: The Ar'Cea were moving off, content perhaps that their hunting grounds were no longer at threat.

The Cadre's drone squadron hummed through the ruins like a Sa'Cea tide, and Shas'Vre Arg'Os span on his heel to see the grimy buildings dissolve into a lush arboreal landscape.

“We've reached the outskirts of Testa” the unfamiliar voice of one of the XV88 pilots patched through. “These are the Gooch lands and we must cross them to reach El Vior and our forward ops base”.

As one, the cadre tensed in response to movement at the tree line, and two bizarre creatures burst forth. About the size of a small Gromlech and with a smattering of coarse feathers, the beasts clucked and cawed as they crossed the open ground, their large bristly chest-sacks swinging left to right hypnotically.

“Scrotbeasts” the second Broadside pilot responded to their question, unasked. That's why the Ar'Cea are here. There's nothing here but Scrotbeasts, shall we?”.

“CONTACT!” screamed Arg'Os over the comms as he networked a targeting matrix across his cadre's HUDs. There were men setting up rifles in the bastion ahead of them. “Gue'La Kauyon, centre right – scour their position!”.

“Shas'Vre, they're Gue'Ron'Sha. Observe.” responded B'Nim as a massive, blood red war machine tore through the tree line...

The Scouring, Hammer & Anvil, 750pts.

See our lists here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/640192.page

Blood Angel trait: Something blood-related.
Tau Trait: Way of the Short Blade.

Tau win edge choice, BA win first turn.

The Battlefield:

We placed five objectives – one in a small ruin in the centre BA deployment, one on the tree-covered BA deployment line on their right, one on the left flank on a hill, one in the bastion turret on the Tau's right, and one in some debris in within the Tau deployment zone.

Planning for the first turn, Meph deploys his Predator in the tree line with LOS to both bastions and the large ruin within the Tau deployment zone, flanks this with both of his assault units and sits his Tacs in some central woodland where their Lascannon can get a bit of LOS.

I keep Arg'Os and drones off table for deepstrike, hoping that Meph would leave his rear unguarded mid-game (which is likely if we are to believe the rumours going around) and set the rest of the force in or behind a large ruin far back on my centre-left generally out of LOS.

Meph deploys his inflitrating Scouts into the parapet of the non-objective bastion.

Tau subjugate the fromage!

Turn 1:

Despite the obvious night fighting, the Broadsides engage their Blacksun Filters and strip a HP from the exposed Pred.

The rest of the Tau combine Markerlights and rockets to delete the poor scout squad entirely (First blood)!

The Predator moves into the woodland for some cover and the Ass Marines and Death Company move up, using the two bastions to block LOS from the Tau. The Tacs stay put, and along with the Predator, fail to hit the Broadside unit.

Turn 2:

With the Predator taking cover in the woods, all the Tau forces focus fire on the Ass squad which has exposed itself somewhat - Two are killed despite FNP from the Priest.

The Ass Marines leg it away from the open ground and take cover in the shadow of their right-side bastion. The Predator and Tac Lascannons manage to hit the XV88s, forcing them to GTG.

Turn 3:

Arg'Os arrives, landing behind the isolated Tac squad, wiping them out to a man and pinning the survivor. He jumps away into the nearby ruins. With no other visible targets, the Crisis teams' rockets strip another HP from the Predator.

Enraged by the audacity of the Tau Commander, both the Death Company and Ass squad terminate their advance towards the bastions and jump back towards the tree line! Four drones are destroyed from the DC's bolter fire. Once again, accurate Lascannon shots from the Predator keep the broadside team suppressed.

Turn 4:

With the Marine assault units distracted, the Crisis and Broadside teams advance towards the objectives ahead of them at a run. Arg'Os and his remaining drones attempt to move away from the charging Marines and finish off the Predator.

Both the Death Company and Ass squad launch themselves, screaming, at Arg'Os and despite his Ninja skills falls to a flurry of blows (slay the warlord). The Marines consolidate back towards the woodland objective.

Turn 5:

Again, the remaining Tau forces move rapidly to secure three objectives and take position in the two bastions.

The Ass squad sits on its objective, while the DC are dispatched to attempt a final assault on the Tau defensive line.

Turn 6:

Now in position, the Crisis Teams cause two casualties from the Ass squad, causing them to break and run 13"!

The Death Company attempt their potentially game-winning charge. However despite zero casualties from overwatch/supporting fire the Marines do not make range.

Game.... Overrrrrrrrrr!

Tau 10, Blood Angels 7.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It was a killing field. From the safety of the two bastions, the Battlesuit teams rained down plasma and endless rockets into the warriors below as the Gue'Ron'Sha trudged back to the tree line.

“They're falling back” commented B'Nim. “We've lost contact with Arg'Os; there's no beacon...”.

“I saw him go down under a press of bodies. He saved us, for the Greater Good. We can send your drones to recover his battlesuit. We'll need its weapons” replied Kir'Kol from his hulking XV88.

“How dare you!” screamed B'Nim “We trained with Arg'Os, bled with him. He's family...” B'Nim's anger petered out as she felt the awkward stares of the Cadre. She span on her heel and pretended to tend to her plasma rifle. “For the Greater Good” she mumbled solemnly...

Sorry for the crappy photos and detail - Should get lots of practice this year at doing batreps innit?

Thanks,

Thank you - I had a particularly bad run of dangerous terrain tests in this one. In the following game the drones 'walked' everywhere unless absolutely necessary! Stay tuned...

Here's a quick after action report for my last 1st round game against Mephie....

The field of glory, a bit naff really, just a battlemap and card terrain. We set it up so the centre was a cluster of buildings with woody flanks..Dawn of War and 5 objectives Big Guns..

The mono colour Blood Angles. My Army can be seen above..lists are in the Campaign thread..

Deployment..

On the left I hold the wood and an objective with Combrink and the regulars, behind a LOS blocking bit of cardboard is my MechVets, then the Recruits in rough ground and finally my right is held by the rocket battery holding an objective and the Russ just out of sight..

A pitiful few SM start on the board..from the left again..Scouts hold a LOS blocking building and an objective..the Tacks hols the other LOS blocking building and the Las/HB Pred hides behind it..further to his right is an unclaimed objective..in the centre is my 'Crashed Sentinel' objective too.

Obviously the real (pointy) teeth of the Angles is in DS reserve, Death Company and an Ass squad with Priest. He jammily rolled the 'Descent of Angels' Warlord trait which is really bloody useful for him, please can I play someone without a WT that lets them DS perfectly and cause me no end of problems....

The game begins with some mostly ineffectual fire from both sides, however I can stand the few casualties caused so much better than him as he has 11 infantry on the table...I advance with the regulars blob to hold the objective and hunker down waiting for it to stop 'Raining Men' so I can advance..

SO the 'Rain' is starting..the DC drop with a bit of scatter backwards (but not off the table due to DoA) they cause a couple of IG to explode with their fancy guns..the Pred sprays the rockets who go to ground (for the next few turns this is repeated) and the Scouts and Tacks basically do nothing..

In my turn I form the familiar DC firing squad and hope for the best..I try a speculative shot down the length of the table with the splatcannon on the Russ (got to love a 72'' range) and in a moment that IG commanders have sweaty dreams about I didn't scatter when a SM infantry unit was in the open..

The 2 survivors were mercilessly gunned down by the Vets...this leaves 8 SM in reserve and and about 6 on the Table plus a tank..he fails the reserve roll for the other drop unit, even with the reroll for DoA..

The remaining SM basically hide..the Scouts move behind the building blocking LOS but holding an objective..the Tacks hide behind the Pred...a wound is caused by it on the Rockets...

This doesn't leave me with much to do...they are all hiding..the Russ hits and Pens the Pred but cover is made..the infantry prepare for more men to rain down...I don't want to advance yet as I'll need units working in concert to kill them..

His next turn is also a fail on the reserves (with the reroll) he does nothing, my shooting is disappointing...come on guys.....

The SM auto arrive and make a ballsy DS to wreak my Russ (what's it ever done to him....oh yeah..) he gets away with it by rolling a hit. Damage is caused but only 2 HPs and a Shake the Tacks and Pred bouce Lasers off it too..

In my turn I scoot the Russ over so that if he assaults it he'll be moving away from the objective held tenously by the rockets though he doesn't have ObSec..little that I have can actually target them so the rest of my force surges forwards to start claiming the central objective with the grunts and the MechVets power forward ready to flat out over to the Scouts next turn....

In his next turn the Ass squad guns down the Rockets and the Tacks/Pred manage a final glance on the Russ...

Then the game end on turn 5, giving him a win..

Wait what!?

Curse you Random Game Length, curse you. One more turn would have let me run down the scouts, gaining an objective a Line Breaker swinging the game back to a win for me. So that's the way forward SM players; fail your reserves then DS right up someone and have the game end. Pretty odd game overall as there was about 2 turns sat twiddling thumbs as the Emprah's finest hid waiting for their Warlord to get his finger out and barring the Russ and the Rockets my losses were minimal..boo.

Still a good fun game and splatting the DC is worth any result in the final analysis..

So that was my final game this round, Alex is yet to play Mephie and there's a Report from Alex and I to do too...

Hopefully we can start round 2 soon!

The random game length and bum reserve rolls were actually Dante’s strategic genius, allowing the BA to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Forge that narrative!

Probably more like 20 for the earliest (made by Alan for WFB 3rd Ed), I was offered a set and really wanted it but I will have to retire my 'Room of Shame' to house my inconsiderate son, so getting another pile of bulky stuff seemed like a bad idea..

Thanks! There's one more I can do...this was a while ago so I might be hazy on some details..

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

'Do you think they'll have any more?' Asked Archon Soulfelcher anxiously.
'I don't know great Archon...' The Incubi bodyguard rolled his eyes safe in the knowledge his warhelm hid the expression...
The Archon was failing to unwrap a small object, sometimes he regretted having his right arm replaced by a robotic mantis claw, it was great for terrifying prey and new and exciting torture but impractical for some manual dexterity tasks. He tossed the small packet to one of his entourage, his last pack of 'Commissar's Choice' a low grade narcotic popular with his new prey. They removed the selophanium and passed him one of the 20 sticks inside..he pressed it against the glowing hot barrel of a nearby Dark Lance and inhaled deeply....connoisseur of a thousand pleasures from a thousand worlds there was something about these Lho Sticks really hit the spot. And they were oddly moreish.
'Investigate the wreckage' he said waving his only hand airily at the 3 burning inelegant chicken legged walkers, 'See if there are any more of these...sticks...oh and slaves etc'. His Incubi shifted uncomfortably, maybe his Lordship had been amongst the Mon Keigh too long..
'My Lord!' shouted a lackey, 'Movement!, there are more of them!'
'Excellent.....' said the Archon blowing smoke rings...'Engage at once!'

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Field of glory..plus cat. Hammer and Anvil and Relic were generated..

This meant I could finally use my special 'Relic' objective I made, it's a downed Sentinel with a removable pilot so the 'Relic' can be carried off, he seems to have a case containing something too....I'll do a longer report as I have more pics and the fully painted terrain and armies as well as the ebb and flow of the battle seem to dictate it.

Archon Soulfelchers strike force..list in Campaign thread, link above somewhere..

The Archon himself...

Macragge 15th (elements thereof)...list as above..

Commissar Lord Combrink..the unyeilding and, some would say (not to his face), insane.

Deployment..

The Imperial Guard arrayed themselves for battle. The left flank begins with the Russ supporting Combrink and his regulars who hold the large building. Just visible above the barrels to the right is the Relic itself. The building below houses the Conscripts and behind them the PCS standing next to the MechVets. Cowering in the far right building is the Rocket battery.

Steady lads...

Prepare to go over the top!

Which way do these go in the tube again?

The Dark Smelldar, hungry for slaves and pain. Starting on the left again..Foot Wytches then more Wytches with the Archon and his retinue. Behind them lurks 2 Venoms and the Raider. Next we have 2 units of Warriors and finally another Raider.

For pain and spikes!!

Capture them alive(ish)!!

Thoughts...

I've never played DE before and was looking forward to it. They weren't about to Deep Strike me for a start which was bliss and also weren't (apart from the 4 Incubi) wearing power armour. They were also toughness 3 so Lasguns might actually hurt something and their vehicles have a low AV so Autocannon and Grenade launchers weren't a joke either! On the downside they have all these 'Open topped transports' and an ability in something called the 'Assault Phase' I was quite nervous above this and was surprised to see my opponent deploy entirely on foot , relegating the vehicles to a gunship role. They also have a lot of something called 'Lance' weapons and apparently these are good against AV14? I was looking forward to this....we rolled to see who got 1st turn and...

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Combrink was annoyed. He and the few technically inclined troopers thought they had found where some of the other units had ended up. Some sort of fast moving strike force was homing in on isolated survivors and engaging them before they could make the rendezvous. A strange dampening field was preventing reinforcements transmissions from reaching Combrinks scratch HQ and possibly even leading the Xenos to them. A short garbled message was received from a recon group of Sentinels, perhaps their high power coms units had pierced the veil enough to lead Combrinks units to their location, as they were arriving explosions showed they weren't the first responders, how had the enemy arrived so quickly?
'Deploy the men forward, I want whoever is doing this destroyed, those are our men out there!'

Off the DE went..

The Wytch units moved forward and the vehicles jockeyed for position. The Venoms opened up on my troopers, apparently they roll 12 dice which was a bit of of a shock. Fluffed dice rolls later and very little damage was caused on the guardsmen. The Raider drew a bead on the Russ and after a failed cover save managed to shake it. The other Raider managed the same trick...curse these fancy 'Lance' weapons and an uncharacteristic run of 6s from Alex. The Warriors in the centre had advanced but left their Dark Lancer in place he took sweaty aim at the terrified Russ and hit and glanced....

3 failed cover saves...poo.

The Warriors on the IG right pushed forwards into the ruins..

Shaken by this loss the IG retaliated. The smug Warriors in the centre, flush from their Russ killing were very bunched up....the rocket battery took advantage of this and blew 4 of them to wherever DE go..

Unfortunately Alex's dice where still set to 6's and the unit boxcar'd their morale and fell back..

The Conscripts advanced followed by the PCS herding them forward. Shaky fire from them slew a few of the Warriors in the building facing them..The regulars were mostly out of range for Lasguns...mostly so fired the Autocannons at the newly terrifying Venoms wreaking one till we remembered 'Shadow Fields' are a thing..still it lost a HP and was shaken.

Forward you dogs, to victory!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The Dark Eldar slunk forward..

The Wytches on the IG left were just in a possible charge range of the regulars, they just made it only to lose the 2 members in range to overwatch fire, this left them stranded..

The Raider and Venoms repositioned to get LOS down the 'road' to the objective..the central Warriors rallied and consolidated to do the same. The fire from the vehicles was pretty ineffectual as they were either shaken or lacking good targets now the Russ was down. The Warriors facing the conscripts moved to occupy the building they were in better and failed to harm the nervous recruits with cruel envenomed shots...

Driven by the Priest's fiery rhetoric the grunts steeled themselves and fixed boyonets...

After the dust cleared the rather surprised DE were no more for the cost of only a few troopers...The regulars ignored the 3 Wytches next to them and failed to down the Venom..

The Rockets however managed to blow up the other on the right of this Raider..

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The DE again sent a few probing advances still holding their most dangerous unit in reserve..

The stranded Wytches advanced up to the regulars led by Combrink..they planned to try to pin the unit to prevent it firing on their colleagues who broke cover...

and prepared to grab the objective!

The Wytches charged and survived the overwatch....

But not the avalanche of attacks from the big unit, fancy 4++ saves proving no defence against sheer numbers..

In their turn the victorious troopers moved forwards to threaten the other Wytches poised to grab the Relic...the Mech Vets cautiously advanced down the road towards the objective themselves, painfully aware of the Dark Lances still out there...

The consripts also advanced to gain LOS to the rallied central unit of Warriors..

Combrink issued a series of tight firing orders (he got the ability to issue orders as his Warlord Trait) and the regulars succeeded in destroying the last Wytches clearing the objective..just behind the big wall to the right the PCS lurked ready to make their own run for glory...

Automatically Appended Next Post:

To try and slow them down the rapid Raider zipped over and sliced a Meltagunner out of the PCS..(apparently someone killed one of the Rocket teams as well, probably a Raider)..

The Archon decided the time to get involved was now..he summoned the other Raider and embarked with his bodyguard, 'Forward' he intoned...the Venom and the Warriors pelted the conscripts with vile toxins..

Killing 6 of the luckless troopers, due to the Priest however they stood their ground assured of the Emperor's favour..

In retaliation they slew 3 of the outlandish xenos..

The regulars moved up to get closer to the action as did the Chimera still holding the elite of the IG army safe in it's belly..the PCS threw caution to the wind and broke cover and dashed headlong for the objective using the Cat for cover. Off camera the rightmost Raider was targetted by the Rocket teams but not actually hit...

Amidst the advancing IG Archon Soulfelcher casually dismounted..

The 2 remaining Warriors and vehicles gave some largely ineffectual covering fire..

The flanking Raider only managed to glance the Chimera....leaving the Veterans unmolested..

Contemptuous of the drab garbed hooomans the xenos Lord saw the prize he sought about to be captured, 'Charge' he cried and after no overwatch hits the results were predictable...

Killing most of them himself he looked about for someone worthy of his blade....

and saw none...

FIND OUT THE THRILLING ENDING WHENEVER I MANAGE TO FINISH WRITING IT (probably tomorrow)..

Unwilling to engage such a dangerous foe the conscripts moved to block anyone coming to his aid...or his retreat...and at just below half strength their shaky weapons fire was harmless..

The hull gunner of the Chimera indicated the one he assumed was the Xenos leader 'What do you reckon he's shouting? waving his sword like that?'
'Who cares! fire the bleeding flamer!' replied the driver. Heavy gouts of promethium arced towards to surprised xenos elites followed by a vicious short ranged fusillade from the Vets with their own flamer, 2 meltas and BS4 Lasguns...when the smoke cleared only 3 of the Incubi had fallen...Aware of the damage these few aliens could wreak the only other unit with anyone in range/LOS was the regulars and a pitiful few hits were rolled..however the sole Autocannon hit wounded and was Look out Sir'd to the Incubi who failed his save. The last hit was a Krak grenade that managed to Instakill the mighty Archon..who apparently can't get fancy power armour like the Incubi.

The rocket teams came good too and finally knocked out the remaining Venom..

With that and the objective safely in IG hands the DE quit the field...however, as we all know, real heroes never die, so we made a little stop motion to illustrate Soulfelcher's escape. Best viewed whilst listening to the Benny Hill theme...

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

'I'll get you next time, Mon-Keigh!' Shaking his fist the Archon sped away into an enveloping and unnatural darkness.....

In possession of the field, the Imperials look for survivors...

'You there, are you alive?'
'Yes sir!, Commissar sir!'
'Yes yes, is that machine serviceable?' The black garbed officer indicated the wreaked and smouldering Sentinel.
'Yes, should fix up lovely sir!' The Commissar raised an eyebrow incredulously.
'Really? And the others in your squadron?'
'Don't see why not sir!'
'What about that?' Said Combrink pointing at the smoking Russ with it's 3 pinpoint strikes.
'Probably my Lord!'
'Welcome aboard' said the Commissar striding off, now he needed another leader for 3rd Platoon................

Nice work driving off those DE. In my (limited) experience fighting them, I’ve found flamers to be invaluable, particularly heavy ones. I love how well they work against paper-mache transports filled with little squishy guys.

After what happened to his bodyguard, maybe the Archon will stop smoking….

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Thought for the day: Blessed is the 'just walked out of a salon' look.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So we played the 2nd round, Sans Alex's DE who are AWOL. Here is a brief recounting of tales of bravery and cowardice to chill your very soul n stuff...

Dawn of Waaaargh, Relic, 1k lists, Mephy is supposed to be posting his revised list in the main Campaign thread (no breath is being held) and MLCS already has.

Cheese was duly seized for the 4th time in a row (reports are out of sequence), wow.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

"It just looks flat and lifeless" Bloody priest Brian of the Bloodiest Angels studied his reflection in the mirror finish of a colleagues battle plate..
"Your hair is fine O blessed Blood Priest!" said Sargeant Clive charitably.
Brian bounced his golden curls "It's wearing that helmet so much, and that new conditioner just doesn't seem to be making a real difference..."
"Xenos sighted!" shouted Clive indicating some distant buildings, he was glad to be able to distract his leader from his daily complaints.
"They're after that Guardsman, over there, what's he doing on his own?" he donned his helmet, glad to cover his hair from the advancing aliens, "Charge!"

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Deployment (terrain by MLCS).

BA from the left; Scouts hold some craters-infiltrating to enfilade the Xenos,

LC Tacks hold the building, Central 'Hill' has Auto-Las Pred and Rhino with 10 Tacks with HF. DC and Ass Mareens in reserve..

Tau. BC/FL squad deploy behind the central building (right), the marker HQ and one of the MP teams take cover behind the other building (left)..

And in front of that building the 2 Broadies and the other MP team take position..

We used my new Quartermaster guy to be the Relic, he comes off his base so units can capture him and carry him off..

And so it begins.....................

The Blood Angles showed their reputation for lightning war by Seizing the Initiative, the 2 jump units were in reserve so the remainders shuffled for position, The Pred ground forward and ineffectually fired at the just visible marker drones.....

the Lascannon Tacks and the sneaky Scouts could just get LOS to the dangerous short ranged Burst Cannon/Flamer team, and between them duly slew 3 frisbees.

The Tau again had a strong attachment to those particular drones and yet again fled the field turn 1 without firing a shot....sigh..

The Tau reeling from such a big loss in such a small force tried to do what they could. The BA force had no real ranged fire, only the admittedly dangerous Auto/Las Pred, so Missile Pod team 1 decided to cross open ground to create a circle of fire on the Relic. Their own unit fit to capture it was gone maybe sheer firepower could prevent the BA from grabbing it.

Leg it lads! The Broadsides fail to harm the Pred...

The Death Company arrive from reserve and execute a textbook deep strike behind the large central building (he got 'Descent of Angels' as WL Trait, Tau got an unpin thing), the Blood Priest and his Assault Marines were too busy discussing hot serum treatments to turn up, even with the re-roll...

The Pred advances and kills a MP suit as the rest go to ground, the Rhino amazingly immobolises itself on a crater leaving the 10 Tacks inside unsure whether they should break cover and leg it or not..

The Tau pop their WL Trait and are no longer pinned, the 2 survivors make it to the next cover, MP team 2 start the same maneuver..

The Broadies again fail to do anything significant to the Pred but a MP manages to glance it...

The Priest and his entourage are now discussing what the best volumising agent is and again fail to turn up. The Pred continues to grind forwards but only manages a single wound on the Tau suit shooting gallery happening in front of it. The Heavy Flamer Tacks decide to get out and take cover behind the hill. The scout who have been slowly running around the central building get LOS on the Tau held main building and fail to hit them with a snapped off rocket. The DC grab the Relic however but this ends their move in the open....

The Tau are in position and attack.

The HQ breaks cover and provides Marker Light support to his troops and between them all the aliens manage to kill 4 of the DC in a hail of MP fire; including the bearer of the Relic...

Emboldened by success the MP teams advance in the open daring anyone else to pick up the Relic...

The space vampires HQ deigns to arrive (he has to now) and DS behind the central building.

The Pred moves again offering cover for the DC who again pick up the Relic..the HF Tacks also shuffle towards the objective.

The Pred manages to kill a single suit from MP2..

The Scouts and LC Tacks move towards the action..

The Tau make DS a unit with Fusion Blasters and Plasmas (which I had forgotten about, oops) to threaten the invulnerable Pred only to mishap, Mephy charitably places them on the corner of a nearby building causing a wound with DT tests..

The Tau advance into this building in force..

The Broadies and HQ light up the DC.....

Killing 2 and again forcing them to drop the Relic...The Pred is glanced by a MP leaving it with 1 more HP...

Stay tuned for the last thrilling installment! Can the Tau overcome such initial losses to steal a win or will those butter fingered Angels manage to run off with the Relic!!!
