Hey Dakka,

I play imperial guard and I've been toying with the idea of Elysian drop troops as a allied detachment or for use as stromtroopers.

Are they worth the price money wise?

Will they make my army more mobile?

I have a valk and vendetta already, do I need another?

What book are their rules in?

Most of all, are they a fun army to play?

Thanks for your help!

Alright, cue Flight of the Valkyries!

1. The models are gorgeous. They actually look real scale, but I'm not sure if that was what you were asking.

2. Yes, they will make your army more mobile. Everything can take a flyer for a dedicated transport, and more then half the army units have deepstrike. Elysians do not play well sitting around, they have a serious lack of long range. They get close, fast, and hit hard.

3. If you're only taking them as allies, you can get away with 1 Valk and 1 vendetta, although more are better. Given that most of the models have deepstrike, they can get across the board OK, and can lend their Vendetta (which still carries 12) to anyone who wants it.

4. There are 3 army lists for Elysians. IA 3.2, IA 8 and IA4 I believe. IA4 is the D-99 list, which is something like a cross between marines and guard. Wacky really, they have odd rules. I use IA3.2, which has a strong emphasis on air cav, due to 'Combat Drop'

5. They are incredibly fun to play. They play like no other guard list, and I seriously doubt there is a list quite like them anywhere. They are among my favourite armies.

This is just my experience, so take it with salt, but I hope it helps.

My $0.02, which since 1992 has rounded to nothing. Take with salt.

Thanks! It sounds like you really love them, I will definitely take a closer look. It's a shame about the funny way they provide the lists but I will try and find more. Do you know if the ground vehicles are worth taking as well? They also look quite fun.

Grav chutes I guess will but useful for taking objectives too?

The Elysian miniatures look very nice, but I don't like some of the leg poses. They look like they are bending over and it is hard to get them into a good pose. I just use their models with normal IG rules, so I can't comment on Elysian rules, but it is quite different from standard IG.
Modelwise they are nice, but very expensive, so I would say they are only worth it if you really like the way they look.
