From an American PoV, WInston Churchill seems like an uber badass.

The Marine Corps does something to us jarheads that make us drastically more likely to produce bad ass quotes, along with actual bad asses themselves. My favorite quotes have been taken for the most part, but I heard a story I'd like to share. A Marine SNCO on a stretcher in the sand box, his vic just torn up by a nasty IED, and this hard charging devil, in a incredible amount of pain save maybe some morphine, in the process of being loaded into a helo, calls one of his sergeants over, and has him take a picture, and he's got a big smile on his face. He knew it would be bad for moral if he wasn't okay, or if he showed any weakness, so for the sake of his Marines, he smiled. Think about that for a moment, even critically injured, even in intense pain, he thought only of taking care of his Marines, and for them he smiled.
