Is anyone grabbing any particular miniatures before the new edition in case they are rationalized?

Personally I grabbed some HE bolt throwers since I can't see GW combining the elven armies and keeping both bolt thrower sculpts.

I'm thinking of grabbing a Mortarch, just because I've not painted any fantasy in ages and it makes my paintbrush sad, but in general I'm holding off. Would rather buy in leisure on ebay, than rushbuy now and find that I had no need for the model anyway.

Nah. I was tempted to buy enough stuff to finish off my armies, but I'm not going to reward GW for being d-bags and not telling us what the hell is going on, I'd rather write off the incomplete armies as losses and move on to other things.

I already gave GW enough money by panic buying Aeronautica Imperialis and still have an incomplete Imperial squadron. I'm not doing it again with WHFB.

Im the exact opposite. I am buying NOTHING because I am afraid of it ending and being useless.

Might get some Witch Elves for conversion into Daemonettes or something. Maybe the odd Brettonian mini for my Brettomian-themed VC army. Overall, though, I'm not in a hurry to reward GW, so I'll be getting those from ebay or my FLGS.

I totally have been doing that. My latest "purchase before they do away with it" snag were the sisters of twilight, because that is an awesome looking model.

I'm buying nothing to finish my beastmen or my ogres. If the armies go away I will repaint them into zombies for the vampires.

I strongly considering buying a Bretonnia box set plus an extra archer box set to finish my army, and to buy a whole butt load of Lizardmen for my son.

We two sons and I will have a little closed gaming community among ourselves plus some of my friends who don't own armies but would borrow one for a occasional games so any rule changes won't effect me one way or the other. I just don't want to miss out on the opportunity to have the models. I love the current Bretonnian models and nothwithstanding what others say, do not consider them interchangeable with 3rd party minis of knights with crested helms. And my son likes Lizardmen.

Those are two armies who I expect to be gone IF the rumours are true. The thing holding me back is I don't know how much credence to give the rumours and don't want to incur credit card debt plus break my rule of not buying new stuff until existing stuff is painted for no good reason.

Why useless?

Because if a specialized unit like say Tomb Scorpions or Black ark corsairs or the black coach or even the morghasts are not in 9th edition I now have models that have no use to me.

I don't know what units will or won't be in 9th edition & to that end I won't buy anything unless it is at an EXTREME discount. Last thing I bought was a dark elf black dragon as it was on clearance from $53 down to $20 and I had a $10 store credit. Worst case scenario there is no dragons in 9th (I can't see that happening) or I don't like 9th and I can likely get at least $10 out of it on ebay.

I could counts-as them but they really have no equivalent. I'm a gamer not a model collector. Sure I enjoy building and painting my models but a VERY large portion of that comes from knowing I will get to play with them. I could say the corsairs are witch elves or warriors but then it gets confusing what gear they have / what they are. "Wait they're witch elves? But they have armour like warriors. Wait they're warriors? Where are their shields? I didn't know they got a parry save."

I want some DE for my Kings of War DE before they disappear, the Cold One Knights in particular have aged quite well and the Black Guard should be good for theameing up a Lords bodyguard.

Unless you're in the difficult position of only being able to game at an official GW store, nobody will forbid you to keep playing your minis in whatever way you may like. Be it 8th edition, a previous edition, or a different ruleset (there are more games out there).

Even if the above case applies, at this stage, I would seriously consider looking for an alternative place to play. Either asking permission for gaming in a public place (civic centers, whatever) or just building a fanmade table in your/a friend's dining room or garage or whatever, some place where you feel comfortable and have enough space.

There's a whole wonderful world outside of Officially Supported Games Workshop Games(tm).

I can continue to play 8th, for a time, and I will. However a game with no support will die out. I'd honestly rather start looking into other (growing) games than try to keep 8th alive on life support & play with the same 3 people all the time.

It's not so much "Can I keep playing 8th?" but more of "How long will I want to?" and I feel my money would be better spent on a different game.

Sure I could use GW minis in another game but unless the other game has horrid sculpts I don't want to. I want to support who is making the game I play. I use mostly GW models for warhammer (I hate some sculpts so I use alts) and will use mostly whatever I am playing.

Might pick up some Irondrakes to bolster my chaos dwarfs if i don't just flat out, ya know, get more chaos dwarfs.

I have an absurd number of elves, but there's a couple things i actually wouldn't mind getting from the DE line.

Ogres... nah. Pretty much good on Ogres. Maybe 1 more Ironblaster.

Honestly, i don't need any of it right now. My crew plays 2.5k almost religiously, so i have lots of builds with any of my three armies. I'm in very much wait and see mode on any fantasy purchase not heavily discounted.

Looking to pick up some end times Nurgle models but that's about it. I've been playing some end times, and I have been using the models in regular playing too. Now I'm in wait and see mode for the rest of my armies, looks like I am loosing my bretonnians to the empire Ift the rumors are true.

I haven't really been tempted to buy anything. I just don't feel comfortable with big purchases that I have to feel so uncertain about.

And all the constant back and forth of the rumors just makes me throw my hands up and say "forget it, I don't even want to hear anymore".

Such a strange time to have tried to get back into the hobby.
