Surprised not to see this here already, but Reaper Miniatures will be launching a Bones 3 Kickstarter in early June. (Mod Edit: Now pushed back slightly, date TBD, see this post).

Some of the new figures were shown at Reapercon 2015 (which I did not attend) and include a 28mm scale not Tiamat.

Some pictures (again, not mine)

So who is going to get into this one? I have passed on the first two (and kicked myself afterwards), but it might be time to get into my first kickstarter...

Man, here's hoping they do a set that focuses on terrain. That's all I really want from from them now, but boy do I want it!

Well, I missed the first two, but with more active RPG-ing, I might jump on #3

There is a Stonehenge type terrain piece in the preview case, so maybe...

I noticed there is something else in green that could be terrain too, but upon closer inspection realized it is part of the Tiamat set.

Which, holy balls, that dragon goddess is huge!

I'm assuming that that huuuge multi-headed dragon is a 3-up rather than actual size, but holy hand grendades that thing is însane!

I dunno, Tiamat is supposed to be the literal goddess that spawns dragons, so that might be an actual size sort of thing. There are some really big Bones kits out there as is, so I could see them doing this.

There was mention on the Reaper forums that it may need to be made smaller in the end, but that does seem to be the intended size!

There's some really nice stuff there but the last two campaigns have really soured me on bones.

Wow, they really kept this under wraps, nothing on their site or FB, I assume they were waiting for Reaper Con to end.

I have to say I'm having trouble loving the bones. Got my first few and while the price and detail can't be beat, I have issues with cleaning the mold lines without leaving a mess. I'm also not sure the thin bits will ever really work out, though I haven't tried straitening them with hot water yet.

At one point I thought they were going to make all other miniatures obsolete, now I see why they aren't going to.

The Giant Sized models are amazeballs though for the price.

Indeed.

Massive dragons for $10 can't be beat.

Nice to see that the Lovecraftian Gravewailer will be Bonsified; i've had my eye on the metal one for awhile, but prefer plastic. The not-Shub-Niggurath looks like it could be promising, too, but I'll need a clearer shot of it to be sure.

Hopefully you won't have to buy into the fantasy bread-and-butter stuff to make this KS worthwhile, as that's not my genre.

Generally things straighten pretty well with hot water, in my experience.

I can see people being a bit soured on Bones just from the flying rodent gak insane amount of models they have. And cleaning is a bit irritating on many models. I didn't get much other than paint and Dragons Don't Share last time because I have just so... many... bones that I will not be painting for a long time.

Once my daughter can hold a brush and model without trying to eat them, it is on!

For me it was seeing also those beautiful sculpts loose so much detail.
A lot of what I got in the first one droop no matter how often they were straightened.
Kickstarter 2 I bought a lot less, having to buy a "set" to get a few I wanted was a bit crap.
I'd go in for a big beastie or some terrain as they tend to be pretty solid and dont loose detail.
I do love metal and resin reaper stuff though and always will.

People were swearing up and down Reaper said no more bones KS. I thought.. NAH.. that would be freakin crazy right? These guys made a TON of cash off of this so it'd be bonkers to ignore it.

My only gripe is that actual retail is creeping up on these so if you do miss it and want the models at retail, the savings are not quite as substantial.

There's goes all my shopping expenditures for the rest of the spring.

I am so sold on this. Lots of were- people spotted- boars, GATORS, bears...

My kids love Bones. I've got assorted boxes of stuff, they just pull it out, make a scene with board game tiles and scenery, and just go do their thang.

Daughter already wants the "shopping cart."

My one wish would be to see some Bones trees.

I posted this in the other reaper topic, but this figure seems relevant to Dakka. Shades of Starcraft?

Not sure, but it looks like that IMF or whatever Bulldog mecha thing is getting Boned as well.

That reminds me: did you get your Bones Thank You minis? What did you think of them?

And what soured you about Bones?

Not sure. If they are not interested in distributing anywhere outside of the US, then:

1) The shipping charges will be even more bonkers than last time. I ended up paying $193 for my base $100 pledge, and the US export shipping situation has only worsened since then.

2) The pound is weaker than it has been for quite a while. Suddenly these "ultra-cheap" models aren't so much anymore.

3) It is almost impossible to buy them retail in the UK, and where you can, it's essentially a £=$ scenario, making them actually more expensive than equivalent metals in many cases.

Separately from that, I did not like how Bones II was run. I thought that the core pledge was a quite malnourished and variable in quality, at the expense of $50 add-ons which contained such strange mixes of stuff that I didn't want a single one. I was quite impressed by Dragons Don't Share though. In general, the larger stuff is of less interest since:

1) the lower detail level becomes very apparent at larger scales, possibly because they have to use more rigid plastic - you feel like you're painting a child's toy at points.

2) I have no effective storage solution for anything that large. It is going to either sit in a giant box, or get dusty or damaged.

I still have so many unpainted models from the first two that I'll almost certainly never paint, but.....

For the big models this material is fantastic, the undead dragons from the first kickstarter are the centre pieces of my fantasy army. Dragons don't share from the second is just awesome. That Tiamat, so need.

I just hope it is run better than the second one, there were some models in the expansions that I wanted but couldn't justify the $50 add-on.

Also wish Reaper would sort out a UK distributer, as there just isn't a good way to get hold of them over here.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

Reaper forum posters said to get rid of mold lines, you can use sanding needles. I use a jeweler's engraving pen, an X-Acto knife, and jeweler's files, myself.

What is is with distributors, anyway? Reaper said they were dissatisfied with the retailer-distributor model, which would cherry pick which products to carry, effectively making your consumer choices for you. Internationals should be able to get *some* Bones. Terrain seems to be selling particularly well on MM...
