im looking for 28mm imperial roman models to use for Kings of War 2nd ed. ive looked at warlord games romans which have an excellent range however they not true 28mm. warlords minis fall around, geusstimating about 20mm. ive compared theyre models to other 28mm scale ranges such as mantic models and warhammer fantasy and theyre usually about a head shorter than all human models and othe races with simualr human structure such as the elves. if anyone can point me in the right direction towards a range with a decent selection that has boxes of models not just blisters and a range that contains atleast 2-3 forms of legionaries and roman calvery. legonaries with light armor and then heavyand the same for the calvery. ive also looked at the foundery models and they just as good as the warlord models detail wise, however they only come in pavks of 8.

any help would be appreciated.

I have all of the above plus Warlord in my Legion (Early Imperial).

Warlord gives pretty good value, but their Legionaires are not scaled right, as you noticed, and their auxiliary are rather large next to them.

The three companies above provide solid models, but they might be a little pricey since they're all in the UK.

Kabal of the Tortured Soul 2000+ points (painted) - Balt GT '08 85th; Mechanicon '09 12th

If you're fine with metal models then there are a load of ranges, Imperial Rome must be one of the most popular historical armies out there. If you're after plastic then I think Warlord is about it for Imperial (Victrix have started doing Punic War Republican).

I have to say though that I've been making a 28mm Roman army over the last year or so, and as long as you're not mixing the models from manufacturers inside single units then the Warlord figure scale differences aren't that noticeable when on the table. My stuff is currently out on the dining room table so when I get home I'll take some shots of figures from various places together.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

well it looks like i wont be building a dual roman kingdoms of men and basilean army out of 28mm romans. all i can find that are actually 28mm and in unit size boxes are from wargames factory and all they have are auxiliary. everyone else who has 28mm not 25mm tomans are all early republic and expensive small blisters or box kits.

I personally like the scaling for Warlord's EIR as Romans were pretty short back in the day (like 5'6" or whatever)

Yes, most sources indicate that the ancient Romans were short people. That's why I also prefer the Warlord scale.

These are probably my preferred Roman range. Although they are republic Romans not imperial.

Those are a fantastic kit. You can make them look a bit less uniform by mixing in the veteran Legionnaire kit as well as some of the Warlord metals range (they're a bit bigger, but it's not really noticeable if you mix them in with a larger unit).
