I might get a box of Basilean Sisters for conversions, mainly to combine with various other parts to make make generic fantasy minis. But I was wondering how good the the sculpts are, especially in terms of detail. It's incredibly hard to find reviews of them, or even pictures of the separate components (I'm guessing they don't come on a sprue if previous restic experiences are anything to go by). They don't look bad painted up on the Mantic site, but I wondered if they look acceptable in real life.

One common criticism of the models that seems to come up a lot is that their arms look unnaturally long, so I should point out that this problem doesn't matter to me because I have some specific conversions in mind and the weapons they come with won't really be suitable anyway. So, what are your thoughts on them? £20 for 20 models isn't a bad price per mini, but it's still a bit of a punt if they turn out to be disappointing. Thank you!

I posted some pics of mine in the "How to Save the Men at Arms" thread. I used WGF Amazon arms, but the rest of the models were stock. Long story short: their necks and shoulders have serious problems, but the rest of the minis are fine...

I looked at the thread, and the necks are definitely a bit weird...time to get the file ready. Some of the hairstyles are a bit more elaborate than I expected round the back, which is a bit disconcerting because it means more mucking about with restic, but after putting together three Deadzone factions I (like to) think I can manage.

Three restic Deadzone factions? Is this that Twilight Zone where you just realized that the place you're in isn't Heaven?

I only have experience with the panther lancers, but they seem to be very similar to the sisters.

The arms are awful. Really bad. The heads are OK but the necks are way to long. I would look around for other options first frankly.

I love Mantic as a rules writer, and I enjoy most of their models. 95% of my Basileans are still sitting in boxes. Somewhere.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Their arms are disproportionately long. Their wrists are located where their hands should end. They might be ok if you replace the arms as Bob suggested and snip down the necks.

Do you have a link to those WGF Amazon arms-pics, Bob?

Here. They're a bit slapdash, though, as I was trying to assemble everything with a minimum of effort. For, uh, thematic reasons.

I have only painted one of the Panther Riders - used arms from the Perry plastics, and added some green stuff to make a mantle to hide the neck and shoulders a bit.

Well, I took the aforementioned put and bought a regiment of 20. And...I'm quite pleasantly surprised!

I wasn't sure as I opened the box. Knowing there was restic within, I wondered if it would just launch a jet of superglue at me to save me the trouble later. This restic felt a lot easier to work with than the Deadzone stuff. The mould lines and small amount of flash came off easily with a sharp blade and it didn't have that strange superglue-repellent force field.

The models are not heroic scale (which I take to mean potato heads and gorilla arms, but see below about other strange proportions) so I've been able to combine them with Perry minis without them looking strange. It's quite easy to get a female knight with a head swap, for instance. Some work was involved on the necks when doing this.

Now, I'll admit the models are not perfect. Mould lines came off easily, but they're quite prominent and you have to be careful not to take detail off. The flail arms look like a pain to attach - happily I have no intention of using these. The other arms are indeed very long, but they have this long, skinny shoulder bit - I thought it was a bit of flash at first. By snipping that off and getting a file out I managed to make the arms a more normal length (the file was used to alter the angle at which I could attach it).

I think I'll shorten the necks every time - having some green stuff handy helps.
