Don't forget Spader's work as Ultron. The creepy Pinocchio motif and having to only spend a couple minutes on the internet to recognize humanity is just the worst and it needs to have a rock dropped on them really sets him apart. Humans are quite awful, they write things like "The Phantom Menace had one of the best Soundtracks ever" which is just begging for an asteroid. One sees "Magneto was right" frequently but Ultron gets overlooked for just how on the nose he was.

Really? Hating on John Williams' scores now?
Bah. The music is the only good reason I attempt to watch Star Wars regurgitate old plots over and over. Yes, I'm looking at you Lone Wolf and Cub The Mandalorian.
And which Magneto are we discussing? Gandalf or Fassbender?

Age of Ultron my absolute favourite Avengers film. Snappy, good action, and I’m a sucker for enjoy redemption arc

On Magneto? I’m not entirely convinced he was right, but nor can I in good faith argue his approach was without justification.
Sure, we saw and see ever escalating anti-mutant sentiment. But how much was that driven by Magneto’s own “eff ‘em all” agenda? Because some attempts to fight fire are just fanning the flames.

In your mind is TPM the only John Williams score? That would explain a lot about your position that TPM is the best ever as well as pretending that someone knowing TPM isn't the best ever is somehow an attack on all of John Williams' work. TPM isn't even the best Star Wars soundtrack let alone one of the best soundtracks of in all of cinema. It is a fine score but it is by no means the best. The Karate Kid soundtrack remains unscathed and at the top.

A Bill Conti score? Seriously?
My respect for you has gone down a lot. I thought you would at least have the common decency to mention a score that was elevated by a composer, like when Giorgio Moroder adapted the tripe that was John Williams' Superman March and vastly improved upon it for Superman III.

@Death Race: I only watched a little bit of the new one; all I can remember it being very brown.
@Age of Ultron: I actually watched that. What I remember of it was that the last 40 minutes were all action fightin' and very, very boring because it was all CGI and fantasy robot monsters from space and cities falling onto cities.
I haven't seen and films I'm afraid. When at a wargames show 2 weeks ago I stayed at a hotel and turned the tv on. Only thing I found was that Doris Day/Rock Hudson film. Right after that one was the other one which was like a sequel, but only on the basis of the actors playing pretty much the same roles. Used to watch those films when I was a kid but not since then. They're odd and cosy.

Ah but you forget the lyrics were by Allee Williams and sung by Joe Espisito, once again showing your plebeian taste and unrefined knowledge of culture. I'm going to listen to The Transformers soundtrack to cleanse myself of this grotesque affront to good taste.
I will say no more on the subject because it is going to far afield and I worry you may be taking this seriously, which you really shouldn't be.

Continuing my adventures into the BFI’s Children’s Film Foundation archives.
Some of the later ones used to air on CBBC back when I was young, but other than the Glitter all (specifically where it uses custard to write a message) I don’t have especially clear memories of them.
Viewing them in retrospect, I’m surprised at just how competent they are. Even if you can chart changing attitudes in the watching. For instance, plentiful adult smokers in the earliest ones (early 50’s), parents just allowing strangers to give their kids a lift, kids shown mucking about in scrap heaps or on industrial sites. All interspersed with subtle Good Behaviour Indicators (like using hand signals as a cyclist, not talking to strangers, clunk click every trip and so on).

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
The Ben Stiller version.
This is as a good, light-hearted movie. There were scenes that made us all laugh, scenes that gave a few wet eyes, and a couple memorable action scenes.
I believe this film was recommended by someone on Dakka, and Dakka, you did not disappoint. Thanks for recommending it.

Wake Up Dead Man {2025] If you liked Knives Out and Glass Onion you'll most likely enjoy the most recent Rian Johnson/Daniel Craig who-did-done-do-it. I found the pacing a little off and that it dragged a bit near the end but one of the others I was with said they thought it was better paced than the other two so YMMV.

Like Frankenstein Netflix has given Wake Up Dead Man is a limited theatrical release that I think is just this week, and should be on Netflix to stream December 12th. Not very many theaters are carrying it and the one we saw it at was just about sold out for each showing, and this was in the middle of the week, so it seems to be a popular series.

My. Netflix advertising email from today confirms 12th December
I rather like the films. As a frequent critic of people mangling UK accents, how is Mr Craig’s drawl from the native point of view?

I wouldn't say it is great, but is serviceable. I've heard worse, even from people actually from that part of the world.

Good to hear. There was someone in Castle supposed to be a British police inspector and I couldn’t work out if he was supposed to be cockney, Scottish, Irish or South African. It kind of wavered about

No. All the stories are completely separate with just the detective, Benoit Blanc, being the connective tissue.

Thanks.
The Running Man
The quotable one.
We couldn’t make it to the theaters to see the new adaptation, so we watched the classic instead. Lots of dystopian action, one liners, and 80’s hair. It’s still in my top 5 Arnold movies.
