Hey gang:

I have a Praetorian IG army now and wanted to beef it out. To keep the theme (Victorian/Zulu/Boer Wars) I was thinking of adding 2 units of 20 Kroot to my list (paint them up like Zulu's, I found a site that sells the shields).

Is this a good idea? Could it work for the guard?

i have a praetorian guard army as well seen here lets see yours.

anyway to your question, IG do 2 things well and neither of them are close combat fighting. if you want to beef up your H2H then add more squads of Rough riders. three 6man squads can provide more punch the those 20 kroot. the perry brothers sell some 28mm models that would work perfectly for praetorian rough riders seen here

now if you are just trying to theme your army, then by all means go for it.
if you dont mind using non-gw models, then here is an excellent line foundry 28mm zulus
they would make great consctripts if placed on GW round bases.

When I'm in power, here's how I'm gonna put the country back on its feet. I'm going to put sterilizing agents in the following products: Sunny Delight, Mountain Dew, and Thick-Crust Pizza. Only the 'tardiest of the 'tards like the thick crust.

Thanks for the idea on the Perry site.  I already placed R Riders in my list I was trying to work on a conversion.  Thanks again.

I have a large Praet army as well and love what you did with the banners and flags, Jeremy are they painted by hand, decals, other?  Really well done.

I heart SYR 8766

For all your bravado, if the US Army decided to invade, Wisconsin is it?, in force supported by a heavy bombing campaign for the month before, weeks of shelling from battleships on Lake Superior, and a full tank thrust (crushing the cows beneath the treads), I don't think that your .22 is going to make much of a difference really... Nice Praetorians. I've considered doing a Praetorian paint scheme (red coat, blue trousers and ivory colored helmet) using the plastic Cadians.

Good idea, and yes it can work.

May I suggest, however, looking at investing in the Hunter Kindred (snipers) or Kroot Hound Pack? The Hunter kindred add inexpensive, infiltrating (deploys later rather than first) snipers while the Kroot Hound Pack adds mobility and a hand-to hand punch - especially when equipped with Surefoot Charms. These models could be modeled rather creatively as well.

I think this answer will depend heavily on the compesition of your Praetorians and how many points you're willing to dedicate to the Mercs.

I was actually considering adding KM as well.

Thinking more along the lines of adding a Shaper Council with wings and Eviscerators. Yes, I realize they'd be crazy expensive but they would look SO cool. I like the idea of adding the Hunter Kindred, maybe I'll reconsider....

Actually (reviewing the CA'03), the Hunter Kindred do NOT infiltrate, however they are equipped with the sniper rifle. I believe Furious was refering to the Tracker Kindred, which are the FA cavalry with sniper rifles and Infiltration.

I suggest going to this link and re-reading the rules: http://uk.games-workshop.com/tau/kroot-list/assets/kroot-merc-list.pdf

From the Kroot Mercenary Army rules by Andy Hoare of Games Workshop, under the heading Kroot Mercenary Special Rules on page 17: "Infiltrate: If the squad does not contain a Krootox, it may infiltrate if the mission permits it." My interpretation is that the rules under the Kroot Mercenary Special rules apply to all Kroot in the KMA - Strategy Rating, Eaters of the Dead, Fieldcraft, Infiltrate, and so on, and note exceptions where appropriate, as is the case with Krootox units. The Kroot Hunter Kindred (snipers) may not take Krootox and should always be able to Infiltrate when the mission allows it.

For the record, I haven't gotten much use out of the Trackers. While they might be mobile and have sniper rifles, they are expensive, can't move'n'shoot (sniper rifles are heavy weapons), and aren't as effective as other KMA units in Assault. Not to mention that they steal a valuabe Fast Attack slot from better units. While

I can't justify a use for them in a pure Kroot Mercenary Army, I think a minimum sized unit might fit in another army. Their mobility, deployment rules, and Fieldcraft rules make them very useful for quarter contesting/capturing. If you have and extra 120 points and need something to do that job, take a look at them. Other than the Hunters, it's about the only other useful unit you can purchase for a little over 100 points.
