You'd have to better define what you mean by that to get a meaningful answer really. If you mean "can I put down 40-50 guys and play the game with the normal rules" then yes, in theory you could, but:
a) The number of orders per player would mean the game would likely not get past the first player turn
b)The number of probable reaction shots to every single action would make the game drag even more slowly, as players had to check LoS from several dozen models every few minutes. It would also make the game very difficult for the player going first!
I wouldn't recommend it, there are better rules (and scales) out there for that sort of thing.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.” |

If you want to play platoon level games, play another ruleset.
Infinity CAN do it, but it's not going to be a smooth thing OR a long one - but it's not designed to do it, anyway.
It's a deniable black bag operations game - not all-out xenocidal slaughter. There are other games out there that handle that aspect much better (and none of them are 40k).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Then why not just give it a try? The rules are a free download. You may enjoy it. proxy a few minis, and if you like the game play, buy the Infinity minis.
Most 300 point Infinity games these days have ~15 minis per side.

I've played a few games of c. 1000 points. Not the ideal scale for the game but doable. If you like the minis but want a larger scale then just use Infinity models with a different ruleset.
Oh, and be prepared to shell out cash, these models are pricey. Its a good deal when you need ten for an army, but expensive if you want 50+

The only "large scale games" of Infinity Im interested in are games that are focused on TAGs (as in 3-5 TAGs on each side, with *maybe* a couple of supporting infantry minis).

Don't let it put you off.
I can guarantee (well.. almost! ) that if you give the game mechanics a try, you will love them. The first time your sniper nails a guy running between two buildings, a trooper rounds a corner and mows down out-flanked defenders with a machine gun, or your camo'd melee specialist appears behind someone and sneak-kills them, you will think that this is what wargaming memories are made of.
Very different experience to mass-combat, platoon or company-level wargames, they each offer something different. The devil is in the detail in the case of Infinity.
