Speaking of Djin, did they say his name once in the movie? Everyone just called him Mando or The Mandalorian. It kind of makes me wonder how all the others would feel about that.

I think once but I'm not entirely certain. It's kind of hard to use after the whole Din Clan name thing confused what his name actually is.

It does sound like a slur the Imperials would use.

Again I am puzzled by the 'meta' turn the show took. It was perfectly placed to be a Saturday western series. Maybe 400+ Bonanza episodes were beyond their reach, but 200+ easily. Green screen volume to their hearts content. Reoccurring guest characters. Villains getting the upper and lower hand. Launch spin offs from it if you must.

Minimal input needed from Star, body doubles all the way, the other star is a puppet. Win.

But no....

Budget. Episodes of The Mandalorian are said to be in the region of $10m a pop.

Yes over time you get a better return on the early work. Like costume and set design. The more times you reuse something already made, the further your budget can go. But even then? Every season still needs significant new effects, costumers and so on.

Part of the shows appeal is the planet hopping. A long time and legitimate criticism of Star Wars has been seeing the same old planets (mostly Tattooine) over and over and over. But in Mando? We see various planets. Yes including Tattooine because why not. But it’s helped the galaxy feel larger.

Then there’s “do we have enough writers to make 200 episodes actually interesting”?

Having seen the film, it would not have been worth it paying full price.

Stakes were nonexistent and ultimately it was just the safest possible product Disney could have made.

Bonanza and Gunsmoke manage hundreds of episodes with the same basic wardrobe and sets. Their writing is genre and often repeat basic plotpoints and themes over the season. They are beloved comfort TV and probably have rarely been off the air since syndication became a thing.

However, the world has changed a lot since then. Audience expectation is much different especially for genre fare. I am not sure there is a lot of room or desire for a Space Bonanza anymore? However, Star Wars is nostalgia bait so I could see a counter-argumet being made effectively.
