Here are some 2nd Edition Datafaxes for IG vehicles. The Leman Russ is updated with more weapon options, and the others weren't available when 2nd Ed was current.

The Destroyer Tank Hunter uses the Titan Killer/Destroyer rule from newer editions: Auto armor penetration vs vehicles & void shields, auto wounding & Instant Death for unsaved wounds on models w/ toughness

If people are interested, I have datafaxes for more IG vehicles, Marines, eldar

I would like to get input on what would be good stats and/or special rules for the Punisher Cannon for 2nd edition?

My gut feeling is that there's probably an existing weapon that the Destroyer could use, but then again, I can't think of it.

By comparison, I think the Baneblade (datafax in a Citadel Journal) mounted a battlecannon, so I think you've overpowered the Destroyer cannon.

As for the Punisher Cannon, S5, -1 sv, range ... 48"? I'd say 3 or 4 sustained fire dice, with a rule allowing you to re-roll or ignore one or two (like the Space Marine dreadnought), otherwise you'll only ever get one shot off.

Alternatively, use the Heavy Flamer template (like the Hellhound) or a 2" blast marker to represent the area of fire and roll to hit each model under it. I don't think it needs as many shots as the 5th/6th/7th ed version, because its main targets (orks and tyranids) don't usually run around in such huge mobs in 2nd edition.

Here is an alternative Destroyer Datafax with stats based on the Volcano cannon from the 2nd Ed Armorcast/Inquisitor Shadowsword (Inquisitor #16). Shorter range, no secondary effect or blast, just affects a single target like a Lascannon on steroids.

Additionally a proposed 2nd Ed LR Punisher.Datafax. Punisher cannon special rules: select target unit as normal. Any other units within coherency of target unit are also targets. Roll TH 1d3 times against each model in target units.

Here are datafaxes for the Hellhound, Banewolf, and Devildog support tanks, based on the 2nd Edition Hellhound. The original rules for the Hellhound's Inferno Cannon are to use the Heavy Flamer Template and then roll an Artillery Die (or d6x2) and advance the template that many inches. Anything under the template anytime during it's move is treated as being under the template as normal for flamer weapons.

I have also included a sheet with the heavy flamer template in case you need a replacement and three templates for the inferno Cannon; +2", +4", and +6". Use a combination of these for scores of +8", +10", or +12". The image for the templates is 8.5"x11"; do not let your printer shrink it to fit, make sure it is printed at full size so the templates are the correct size. The Heavy Flamer should be 11" long and 3" across at the wide end and the Inferno templates should be 3" across the diameter.

Nice job, encouraging stuff. I need to get back to my 2nd edition site and continue the work.

I remember getting an old 2e-era Russ off ebay ages ago, and it coming with the rule sheet for it. I knew nothing of 2e but it looked more simulationist than 3e/4e did by far - this seems to agree.

By the by, what is a Chimero supposed to be represented by?

Codex: Soyuzki - A fluffy guidebook to my Astra Militarum subfaction. Now version 0.6!
Another way would be to simply slide the landraider sideways like a big slowed hovercraft full of eels. -pismakron

Out-of-the-loop from November 2010 - November 2017 so please excuse my ignorance!

Yes, 2nd edition was a wildly different animal. You more or less had:

1st Edition (Rogue Trader): Open world RPG/small skirmish.

2nd Edition: Small platoon elements with much more simulation (far more rules heavy).

3rd-7th: Introduction of turning 40K into a money-making game. The game tried to force-feed more rules into a stupidly simple game system leading to waaaaay too many special rules and ignoring rules situations.

8th: Restarting the game which had gotten out of control in 7th.

We play a modified version of 2nd edition and it's probably my favourite, though I enjoy 8th and want to push some of our conversions into it.

Games Workshop gave us the rules for Chimera variants in the Citadel Journal. I think it was Ian Pickstock or someone like that from the developing team that wrote the article. I have it somewhere.

So the Chimera could be modified for 4 other roles.

1 was the Pegasus Amphibious tank that appeared in another article.

The 3 Chimera Variants in the main article was Chimerax, Chimedon and Chimerro.

One had a Battle Cannon, one a quad autocannon anti air mount and one with a special hunter killer missile system....These were known as Assault Chimeras.

To Be Fair if you take everything from 2nd edition out of the game. And you looked at the armies and units left that were developed over the last 19 years.....you would still have less than a 3rd of what the original designers gave us in the first 5 to 10 years.

Kinda shows that making core units has not been a focus....but dilly dallying with the rules.

There are many sites designated to 2nd ed......

A new Battle Bible was updated a couple times last year

Scripd also has Tau, Dark Eldar and such for 2nd ed based from the rules of 3rd ed.

Other forum sites have quite a bit of links.

There is an updated Space Marine Codex with all the options and rules for new and improved stuff, like Sterguard, Land Raider Variants, etc Anything you could get up to 8th has been retro fitted for 2nd.

Of course there are the GW sanctioned Super Heavy, Titan, and Citadel Journal rules out there too. My favorite are the Ork Tinboyz, Ork Goffiks etx.

Does anyone have access to the TechMarine Rhino Rules.....I only have part of them.

The Techmarine dreadnought and stuff I think came with it. It was mostly a Space Wolves article.

thanks
