Hey all,
going for a bit of a gladiator vibe with these guys. Thinking about modeling more with their shields over their heads to make a phalanx kind of thing like in 300. Not sure if it will work yet with the models bases keeping them seperated too far.

Thoughts?

Definitely not what I was expecting and my initial reaction was Ooh! Those shields are truly fantastic a really excellent idea and from what I can see, executed very well.

I can see how they could stand in phalanx and the idea is really appealing but even if they can't all work that way, it would still make sense as you're bound to get a few orks charging out on their own even in the most disciplined formation.

Great stuff, subbed!

Love it! Love the shields I agree, your orks! they aint gona be formin' no lines! Plus if you actually clump them in play then your gona get blasted by templates pretty hard

I love the effect you achieved on his shield, the real worn and battered look works really well. Would you mind walking me through your process?

Also, the dirty look on his legs, how was that done? a final wash?>

They are looking excellant.

I like how you have added the gladiator element but kept the general orkyness. Good work

Love the idea and the execution is good. One suggestion, I would try to switch up the shields a bit for the next guys. My idea was to use parts from vehicle kits, either ork or other factions. Like they had literally ripped apart destroyed vehicles to use.

It would show the orks' preference for recycling as well as make the ard boyz less uniform.

Looking good!

I love the idea of the giant power drill spear, although the tip may be a bit on the large side. Speaking of large, I see you mixed in some nobz heads on boyz bodies. They actually fit fine and look good. I'll have to keep that in mind for future conversions.

The weathering and Orky painting on the shield looks great. I really like the effect. And you get a nice dirty, dusty look on the pants.

I vote for you to paint the giant face shield next!

Good stuff, particularly the melee weapons. The whole look is an original concept, and works well for the 'Ard Boys theme.

For the shield I just based it in a light grey and worked it up to a lighter grey near the top. After that I globbed on Agrax and Nuln oil for a dirty wash. For the blue, I used that salt weathering technique and just scraped the salt away. I did this guy as a test but the nice thing is that I can just batch the shields really quick and get the same effect all around, I used an airbrush which made it a little easier but I think it can be done with a rattle can as well. *quick edit* I forgot to mention, I used the sepia wash after the process which adds a really nice grimey effect if against the nmm effect.

If I had some trukk bigs I would totally go that rout, but modeling the shields from plastic card worked out pretty well. I like the idea that the mek that made them was just cheap and cobbled some scrap metal together

haha yeah the drill is definitely top heavy but I figure that nob arm gives him enough strength to wield it! The nob bits actually worked out pretty well despite the difference in proportions. I think the giant shield hiding most of the body kind of helps with that. I'm glad you guys like the pants! I just did the checker pattern and did an agrax wash. BTW, I'll totally do the giant face shield guy next

That looks fantastic, really well done. The NMM works I think, but the focus is really pulled by the skull shield.
Having a hard time picking my fave from the two so far.

Dude I love these 'Ard Boyz! They look really awesome... There's something about figures hefting huge shields that really appeals to me.

If I were to criticise anything it would be that these guys are almost too awesome to be mere 'Ard Boyz and are deserving of a better categorisation. I guess there's not much you can do about that though!

Excellent! I love the way this mob is turning out.

The metal on the spike-punching arm looks great. How did you do it?

The big face on the shield looks very Orky and proppa!

The shields are a clever idea, and look really good.

Although they could use some bullet holes
