Hey guys, I'm just getting started with an Eldar force and I'm still finding my way a little bit. Now that I have a decent selection of infantry, I have to consider how to get them where they need to go. So far here's what I've got:

Farseer on foot
22 Guardians with one weapons platform
3 Jetbikes (none with scatter lasers though)
5 Fire Dragons including Exarch
5 Wraithguard
6 Dark Reapers including Exarch

I do have one Wave Serpent and one Falcon. Should all of my units be mounted up though? If the Dragons and Reapers should be, is it better for them to have a Wave Serpent or a Falcon? Lastly, are these unit sizes alright? I know the Jetbikes need bumping, but what's an optimal unit size? 6? 12? Something else? Fwiw I was planning on doing roughly half with scatter lasers in an attempt to tone down the angst I come across.

Your list looks like a solid start to an infantry-focused Eldar List. The Farseer and the Dark Reapers can definitely stay on foot.

Some of the Guardians definitely need a transport, as do the Fire Dragons and the Wave Serpent. 12 Guardians and 5 Wraithguard will easily fill two Wave Serpents. You can use the Falcon to transport the Fire Dragons, but another Wave Serpent is cheaper and provides better protection.

Jetbikes are solid, but Scatbikers are severely undercosted. A couple squads of three will do, and you can still use the 2nd edition jetbikes (though they are hideous) to fill out some of the squads. Units of 3, 5, and 6 work best for Windriders as it keeps you a small and agile target.

With all I've said, you would need to get another Wave Serpent (preferably two), a couple boxes of jetbikes, and ideally some more weapons platforms for the Guardians that won't be mounted up.

Hope this helps!

Ok, so what I had in mind was basically:

Farseer Skyrunner with singing spear
Farseer with singing spear (with a Guardian group)

11 Guardians in a Wave Serpent
12 Guardians with a weapon platform (shuriken cannon?)
6 Windriders with 3 scatter lasers
6 Windriders with 4 scatter lasers

5 Fire Dragons with Exarch
5 Wraithguard with Wave Serpent

6 Dark Reapers with Exarch
Falcon Grav Tank

By my calculations comes out to just over 1500 points. Eventually I'd like to add some Swooping Hawks, Striking Scorpions and fill out the Falcon squadron. I'll give it a little time though.

Foot slogging is a slow way to die.
Fire Dragons with their meltas need definitely a transport.

One thing to think about as you grow your collection is the formations. While the Eldar don’t really need them to be good, they are free power you can take advantage off if you want to step up your game.

You might want to consider if you want to get the parts to make one of the guardian hosts, either foot or bike.

Make sure you have at least 3 different squads of aspect warriors.

I might include some warlocks in your list. Overall it looks reasonable. It should play well, but is not so spammy or broken to irritate your opponent.

You might want to limit your guardian squads to 10 guardains + a weapon plaform (I would give them a starcannon). This allows either squad + a farseer to ride in the wave serpent. Every so often one of your squads will have a reason to hop into a different transport, so it's nice to have the flexibility.

If you use the Warhost detachment, you can get away with not using transports, since your models just move 12" a turn anyhow. If you're using a CAD, you'll want at least one more wave serpent for those guardians, and a Falcon or Wave Serpent for the fire dragons. The Dark Reapers don't need a transport, so you can re-purpose that Falcon for the fire dragons.

I only have one weapon platform, since the second Guardian squad I got second hand. Still it was a third the price of a new set for 12 Guardians which just need some stripping, so I think I still did pretty well. Does the platform take up a space in a vehicle though?

Yes, the Weapon Platform now takes up space (and has a toughness & armor save profile).

The Fire Dragons can ride in the Falcon. 3 Wave Serpents is just about perfect: 1 for the Wraith Guard, 2 for the Guardians.

Sell everything but the 3 jetbikes. Buy 3 more and get a Wraith Knight. Watch it kill my 2 Impeial Knight Titans in close combat with its Str D weapon upgrade. Your 295pt WK killed my 700+pts of IK...

Weapon platforms are really easy to build if you have spare weapons.

Just a base and parts of a sprue. Add something roundish that looks like it hovers and you are good.

And learn to ignore the "eldar is so OP" spam and you will do great.

.....so it goes.

Yeah, I should have some stuff lying around here somewhere. Thanks for the tip! I've already used my Starcannon though, what's the next best?

I'm not planning on going full spam. Eventually I'll get a Wraithknight but I doubt I'll ever pack two or more the way some people do. I'll also avoid full-on Scatbike spam and go 50-60% scatter lasers and the rest stock shuriken catapults. Doesn't mean the bitching about spam will stop, but hopefully it won't be as bad.

If your Guardians are going to be in the transport for most of the game, then a Scatter Laser is best. If they'll be on the board, then the Scatter Laser is still very good, but the Bright Lance (for plinking at vehicles) becomes a reasonable option.
