The basic theme of this project is "HP Lovecraft x Warhammer 40k x The Borg." I like the mutation and corruption aspect of Chaos, but I don't care for the iconography and general busy/gaudy look. This theme will allow me a huge degree of artistic freedom.

Some of the Dark Vengeance Cultists are interesting models. Most are not. Even worse, the models that are interesting all come in doubles. This is my solution to the conundrum. All of the pins are drilled and I'm currently doing the final touches with GS; smoothing joins, bulking out areas, and adding nasty little details. After that, they will be ready to prime. They'll be going with a few of the more interesting unconverted cultists.

My color scheme will be brown robes, silver metallics, and a vivid green w/Nurgle's Rot glaze for organic components. Power weapons will have an ice blue glow. Eyes will be Ice Blue w/white pupils, lenses will be white with Blood for the Blood God technical red. They will be painted to accompany my Chaos Marine conversions on the ummm.....shelf in my room that hardly anyone ever sees. :p

I think a pistol would prob have made more sense on the winged guy.

Took a second look at the model, decided you were right. Did some modifications, smoothed the joins, and added a little bit of gnarly chaos type terrain for him to stand on. The Angel is lookin good!

Sure. Two-Face was fun to build.

Mostly the carapace area was a chance to push myself with GS. I like the way some of it turned out, and dislike other parts. All in all I think the model will look great once its painted.

Been busy with school and house stuff, but y'know. I'm pretty happy with how Gunslinger is turning out and I'm enjoying using my new sculpting tools for detailing on a large conversion.

The wings, arms, torso, head, and leg sections will be painted separately, then glued together.

My goal is to have the big guy completely finished before classes start in a couple of weeks.

Primed the model black & applied 2 coats of base. I would hate to try and do this project without being able to paint each part separately.

Bone: GW Celestra Grey
Organics: Reaper Olive Green
Metal: GW Leadbelcher
Whip: GW Hormagaunt Purple

2 coats of layer, 2 coats of wash.

Metallics: GW Ironbreaker, GW Nuln Oil
Organics: Reaper Pale Olive, GW Beil Tan Green
Whip: Reaper Amethyst Purple, GW Drakenhof Nightshade
Bone: GW Screaming Skull, GW Agrax Earthshade (Only one coat of this as its a really strong wash)

The big guy is an on again off again project I've been tinkering with and rebuilding for a few years. There's a lot of work on it that's pretty rough, but I learned a lot in the building process.

Basic highlights and glaze applied. This is the stage where I feel like a model is starting to "come together." Please pardon the bad lighting.

Just wow! The giant chaos machine looks absolutely incredible. Fantastic job on both sculpting and painting! This inspires me to get some GS for the first time in a few weeks and try my hand at it. How long have you been sculpting like that?

Thanks, the biggie is a labor of dark & twisted chaosy love. I think it will be suitable to loan out to my friends if they want an eyecatching "Greater Demon" model.

I've been working with GS for about a year, in terms of really applying myself to get better. Having a good set of sculpting tools is incredibly important. Larger model projects are actually way more forgiving in terms of detail, and allow you to take more risks.

Here are some of the Chaos Lords I did last year. Currently trying to touch up the paintjobs to make them look a bit better. Iphone camera SUCKS. Ugh.

Times like these i damn myself for being a loyalist.. No way close to the same artistic freedom when it comes to sculpting and scratchbuilding.. But i do love it!

Gold: GW Brass Scorpion x2 layer, GW Aggrax Earthshade wash, GW Auric Armor Gold highlight.
Power effect: Gunmetal (50/50 Blue & black GW wash) x2, GW Ice Blue x2 edge. GW Drakenhoff Nightshade wash, GW Ice Blue edge
Axe details: GW Evil Suns Scarlet layer, GW White Scare edging, GW Blood For The Blood God glaze x2.

Got a bit burned out on painting, so I decided to do a bitz box project. Gonna make a chaos spider thing.

The legs will be 3 segments long, not 2....but you get the general idea.

Look promising!

Modified the head, built attachment sockets, did some sculpting on the abdomen. THe idea is that each turbine will have 2 legs attached to it, indicating that there are 4 separate power-plants for the deamon engine. I also decided to scrap the idea of building my own legs, other than maybe one or two pneumatic/hydraulic legs made out of decreasing diameter plasticard tubes. Currently looking around for suitable legs.

The final image is of a reaper mini I am considering, though it seems ridiculous to order a mini just to chop it up to make a different spider. <shrug>

I'm guessing it will be the appropriate size to "play as" a Chaos Dreadnought.
