When the units in my codex says that they may take items from *insert 'list' here*, Such as the Nobz, who may "take items from the ranged weapons and/or melee weapons lists", what does it mean? Specifically, where do I find how many points the items cost? And are the lists really the list at the back of my codex (Which, for 'Ranged weapons', contains things like Bubblechuckas and bigbomms)? I've assumed, when I first read it, that the items are free unless specified otherwise.

The list isn't the reference sheet at the back no. Its the wargear list. Look for it, it will have the points cost. They are not free.

It means that they have the option to take an item from that list, usually replacing a piece of wargear that they have. And your codex should have the cost of the item in the table. No, they're not free, the ork codex has a very specific chart detailing the items in the various lists and how much they cost, go back through your book and you should find the chart.

The list should be located before the Datasheets themselves, usually right after the 'Datasheet Explained' section but before the first Datasheet.
