The idea was to create a better sentinel, and in doing so try some things I've been meaning to experminet with, one being fully articulating joints!  This guy is fully magnetic and poseable like a action figure. I drew a lot of inspiration from the FW Titan Warhound, somehwat making a mini Warhound: hence the name Jackal!

After I simplified the Sentinel Legs and magnetized them I built a base from both Sentinel and Dreadnought Exhausts. It didn't look like much at that point and sat on my desk for months while I worked on other things. The Feet were what really transformed this piece and got me going. With a little cutting and pinning I converted them to look like Warhound Toes, which IMO totally contributes to the look and feel of the model!

After a little diggin through my bitxboxes, I found the perfect piece to make the shoulders, from the Dreadnought Sarcopagus- cut in half and pinned together. Then once I determined the height I searched for pieces to use and found a spare IG Dozer Assembly and cut them up as needed, utilizing two bitz to make comumns to support the shoulders. The back was made from the other piece to the Sentinel IIRC and I cut up a spare landspeeder to use the seat.

Then I fashioned supports out of paperclips to hold the shoulders up while I deatiled the space in between. Lt Varras donated his torso, perfect since I'd already removed the legs and arms for some other reason. I gave him some arms and positioned him to be the pilot. I wanted to have some sort of 'Umie in there to give it more Machina and less Robot.

The arms/shoulders just fit perfectly in the space! also the pin used to hold them up also secured the Dozer Blade Supports to the chassis or the base of the model. 1/4" ball bearings were drilled into the arm joints to allow  articulating Weapons.

The Front piece is the bottom piece of a Dreadnought Torso, The "Waist" being a perfect neck, and the "Crotch" transformed into a head!!! Rather nice look if I do say so myslef, and again here the head was modeled to mimic the look of the Warhound Titan. After making the head the Jackal seemed like a fitting name. The neck was also given a ball bearing and two points of contact, to keep it straight up.

Here he is Kneeling:

Jogging:

and Direct Shot Head On: (still without weapons)

I'm detailing the inside of the removable front plate, right now there's afolding stock and some controls and I've finsihed most of the pilot even gave him a knife on his belt. Please bear with me, as this project might take at leat another week to complete. Seeing as my weekend is booked.

I'm still thkning about all sorts of arm combinations such as a lascannon and missile launcher on each arm, to count as a dread with 2x Las & MLS... I like the look of the PlasmaCannons alot although that is nowhere near legal in game terms.

Comments & Critique Appreciated!

Under the couch

It's a very cool build, but to be honest I think it looks better without the front piece, with the driver exposed.

The legs look a little clunky, but do at least provide a nice central support.

All in all, nice work. Different and distinctive, but still quite Imperial looking.

This guy looks just to mechwarrior to me to fit in a 40k army. Although I think if it is as good as painted as it is build it will fit to any army.

pretty awsome looking... but he needs to be "40k-ed" up a bit. possibly the inclusion of a close combat arm, a few large imperial eagles, a tabbard or other dangling banner and so on will help.  The sentinal CCW would probably be a good place to start.  For the gun arm, a long barreled autocannon with a large drum of amunition would be good, possibly something in between the sentinal autocannon and the one on the predator

The new sager style hunter killer missle would also look pretty good on his shoulder...kind of a retro tech look.

Definately looking forward to seeing this beast completed.

I see the mods at B&C closed your topic down without even reading it. Typical B&C mods. Do they have to pass a childishness test before they get the job over there?

While I admire the effort, I find the model somehow disproportionate. Perhaps the legs could be longer? Right now it looks slightly like an elongated killa kan, and this is supposed to be an Imperial machine, not an Ork one. Another suggestion I could make would be to reverse the jointing of the legs, with the lower legs attached to the outer face of the thighs, should make it look less knock-kneed. Finally, perhaps you could widen the shoulders slightly? I think this would be a tad difficult, considering your assembly, but I personally think if you widened the shoulders, it'll make it look less elongated.

Apart from that, I will second Insaniak's call to remove the front piece. You've done a great job on the pilot, why hide him away?

My 2 cents

That was actually the original design, but somehow the legs centered beneath him not only lend some support, but make him look rather tall which is good but you're right once I get the waepons on the legs will look small and disproportionate.

As for the Pilot being shown, thank you very much, I am rather pleased with the way he fit right in there myself, I thought about leaving him exposed too for a while, and well it look to matrix too APU? so to 40kify it I mad ethe head, and also tthere is a optical display on the inside of the piece, so it's nice, but I will most likely be removing it often to show off the pilot on the inside.

The legs will be hard to armor and keep their range of motion, but I have a few ideas! Shoulder mounted weapons also came acroos my mind, but I think I'll try to incorporate everything within the weapon/arms and just give me time to add the imperial aquilas and whatnot, see the nice spot i've already made for one! Rivets to his collar, maybe I'll try doubling up some sentinel legs to make them thicker!

I'll admit he does look very different, but still 40k seeing as no plasticard or rod work was done yet, all bitz! Then again my forces generally are very different, you should see my mini hellhounds!

:S woudn't want the pilot to be exposed to enemy fire now would we? You gotta admit though doesn't he sorta resemeble a Titan more so then a Sentinel or Dreadnought at least! Besides he can do the splitz and moonwalk and I'll have to get a movie of him walking it's very fun to lift up his legs and well ..

I can make the noises but I wont attempt to type them!

It looks nice, though I prefer the standard sentinel model.
The mini hellhound looks great, but what will it count as and how big is it? If you are using it as a hellhound some people might complain that the size gives you an advantage.
