Evening all, I'm a little new to the forum posting side, I've lurked forums for almost 10 years with only the occasional appearance. So it takes something rather special for me to surface That special was the Icarus Project from Icarus Miniatures, particularly the gorgeous artwork! Now I've playested it and like it but that's not my main focus - I'm a painter, I like getting colour on plastic!

1st on the block is the Gabriel Cross miniature, I've done a little review over in the P & M section on him, but this will be my first wip shot.

I'm using a mixture of VMC and mainly P3 paints at the moment. I'm also trying to be precise and keep a record of the paint recipes as well. I'm in the middle of the basecoat at the moment but thought I would pop an image up of about 2 1/2 hours work (I really like the mini so I'm being far too careful and should really speed up a bit )

Managed another couple of hours and got all basecoat done. Although the straps are well sculpted you don't realise how many there are till you start painting!

A little more work now on the upper chest armour, not sure if I want to up the contrast too much as I am a fan of a more realistic look.

Looking very good! The stripe on the helmet really makes it.

thanks for the words! I've never posted wip so all feedback and comments are welcome. Managed to sneak another hour or so, front armour getting there, started leg armour and a few details. As always photo is a little washed out.

Have fun and do check

Not much time, but I've started more details, helmet, the lower leg and back armour. I've also made a start to the trousers, a few layers of army painter dark tone in the shadow areas. I'm trying to apply that only in the dark areas rather than a wash over all, hoping to create more contrast that way.

Quick update, work on the helmet, pouches, trousers and my favourite part - leather straps! Photo doesn't show as much as I would like but the little scratches and colours really look quite effective.

Right, not much progress as I've been a little busy but the trousers are almost there and the lower leg armour is getting there. Mostly using some watered down paint and a little glaze medium. Also using some army painter soft tone to tone down the pink.

A couple of viral infections have taken their toll on my progress unfortunately but I'm moving forward and in the home stretch. Got him mounted on the Base, some weathering and about ready to attach his arm. Though as usual I'm sure he looks better in the flesh than the photo.

Looking great man, but there seems to be a white hazy look on some of these photos. Have you considered constructing a lightbox? Could help to diffuse the light a bit and give us a better look at that detail you're putting in.

Thanks for the encouragement! and I agree about the photos, I'm very limited on space so a lightbox would be good but I've got to consider storage - and time to make it! If anyone has any bright ideas then I'm all ears.

RIGHT, let's get this party started.

Been far too long without painting an Icarus Miniature so the recent Kickstarter (Finishes Friday 30/10/16) got me thinking. This time round I am aiming to paint quicker and think less, plus less going over and over the same area. Having painted up almost have the infinity operation icestorm miniatures I've got more accustomed to the style I want to paint.

As before, here's the artwork, but this time Al little different on the colours. Posted below till I work out how to adjust the size

So got a few hours yesterday and laid down some flats.

Managed some more time this morning, so 3 hours in I've got to the completed for the time being stage on the armour. I didn't want straight grey and wanted my standard Trooper armour to be more olive/military green sort of grey. When I remember the colours names I'll update the post

Automatically Appended Next Post:
P3 traitor green
VMC dark grey
P3 menoth white Base
VMA white
glaze medium

Base, About 2:1 green to grey, just to tone it down
Highlight, add green to the mix with some glaze medium
Shadow, add grey to the mix with some glaze medium
Edge highlight, about 3:1, menoth white to green, to tone down
High spots, pure white dots where you like (I mainly do corners)

Pants done, maybe tone it down a little later. Belts and pouches also there so it's looking like face, hat and the big guy (leather duster) to go.

Quick update time, I'm not going to finish before the Icarus kickstarter ends in 12 hours, but I'm almost there
A little more work on the leather coat and I'm there. What do you think? Advice and feedback gladly taken. Enjoy your Friday.

Right, long time no post. The Icarus kickstarter has been delivered (almost on time - which is a rarity these days) and I will post an unboxing/ review soon but I have now assembled these bad boys and hope to get some paint down range pretty soon.

Got almost everyone basecoated but couldn't resist trying to get some detail on this guy. Chuck Norris here is the first miniature where I started the eyes and face first - normally too scared and do it last I'll post some group shots soon but thought I'd share this. I'm definitely having more painting fun than with the infinity icestorm set, easier to handle - nice clean sculpts and I've dropped them and no-one broke :p

Quick update, got 2 hours more so have got through the top half. Although there is lots of detail these miniatures are not over busy so it is definitely easier going than some - I'm actually enjoying it!

Thanks for the kind words. I struggle with speed, these guys are supposed to be good tabletop quality and I end up spending far too long trying to blend :p oh well almost there, just a quick shot here - got some dirt to add to the boots and finish the Base and I should be done.

I love the style and grit youve imparted to these infinity models. I know the pain, as they are so detailed and really tiny! Youve done a fantastic job with them! Also your new pics are much better able to see what the mini actually looks like!

Quick shot of the finished mini, I'm liking these Icarus sculpts, I think they seem more forgiving and less painful, to me anyway, to paint than the infinity miniatures.

Must sort out a lightbox or something to diffuse the light for photos, oh well - on to the next one, happy painting all!
