So...now that Age of Sigmar has come out and abolished offensive square bases forever, it has introduced a number of silly ovals (instead of manly rounds) for things like Cavalry and other models that just need to be oblong for some reason. An interesting example is the Skullcrushers of Khorne, that have an oval base, but the Chaos Lord of Khorne on a Jugger still has a 60mm round. In 40k, the Jugger-Lord and Thunderwolves all have 60mm rounds, but should we move to the ovals?

That's not really the question I had, but its an intro. Basically, I've hated the long cavalry bases ever since they've tried to mess up my aesthetically pleasing round base 40k armies. I also play Khorne (now Khorne Deamonkin), and have always had hounds of some kind in my army. For a while in 3rd/4th/5th, it seemed like it was up in the air whether the hounds should be on 40mm rounds or square cavalry bases. Now of course, Fleshhounds have 50mm rounds for some reason. Bikes in those days either had a cavalry base, or no base at all. Some folks even used the super thin 60mm titan bases for their bikes. Nowadays, they have the long bike base with two semi-circles on the end, but its still long and thin and evokes too much of that square base feel for me.

Anyway, so my real question in all this mess, is, would it be a big deal if I put my Bikers on the new cavalry ovals, or even 50mm rounds (which don't jut out as far a 60mm base on a bike), and would also match up well with the Fleshhounds in my army.

Am I mad?

All my Ork bikes are on cav ovals - they come in the box iirc?

I mean the new style ovals:

And not the rectangle ovals that come with all the bikes now. I just don't like how they look.

Base sizes is one of those things that can get called out for MFA. And unlike a lot of MFA issues, actually has some text in the rulebook to back that up.

Personally I don’t think it makes that big a deal, and would play you either way. The fatter bases would probably be more of a disadvantage, as it would make it harder to get your guys into CC, which is where khorne wants to be.

I agree MFA would be the issue and its valid here. Large footprints on fast units bring many advantages from controlling board space to immunity to blasts/templates. If your proxying something for test purposes cool but permanently I'd say no.

I'd say use the base that came in the box.

Yeah, using the bases provided is the safest bet.
