Upcoming miniature boardgame on KS by the guys behind Galaxy Defenders, which looks like it was very well received. It looks pretty interesting indeed and apparently the rules are an evolution of those in Galaxy Defenders.

Meh.

Got Dungeon Saga and Conan coming, Shadows of Brimstone, Warhammer Quest and Super Dungeon Explore are here. Zombicide too, if that counts. Don't really need another dungeon crawler!

Especially one with cards that are SO BUSY...

Check out the pics of the game in action too, the board clutter is Shadows of Brimstone level "cover the table with gak"

That said, minis look decent

Dungeon Crawlers are my Kryptonite

Check this out to free up table space. We use something similar for our diverse Shadows of Brimstone cards :

Runnin up on ya.

Is $100 the magic number for board games on KS? I can buy Descent all day long for $60 ($55.17 on miniature market) but KS board games are always about $100.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

The D&D Board games are priced similarly as well (to Descent). For some of the CMoN boardgames, I don't mind a $100 price tag.. but for a game like this that I'm not 100% sold on to begin with, plus a low model count (I know it might grow) I don't get why they would throw the price out that high, unless it's just because that's what others are doing.

I like some of the sculpts we're seeing but 2 things I don't really need more of is generic fantasy adventurers and skeletons. I might even venture so far as to say the demons are passe at this point. That's not to say any of the sculpts aren't well done, because, artistically they're not bad sculpts. They're also not breaking any molds though. When we see the flourish of sculpts from Rum N Bones or Bloodrage or we see the Hyborian stylings of the Monolith Conan figures, there is a sense (for me anyway) that adding them to my hoard of minis and boardgame pieces is justifiable.

I agree. It looks exactly like yet another dungeon crawl board game but with a lower model count and higher price tag to existing competitors. It'd be different if there were some really ground breaking mechanics or concept but after reading the description , it's nothing new. For $100 I can get giant games with established cred and not wait months and months or have to worry if it'll ever be delivered or all the other issues with KSs.

Agreed, although... just the stuff shown on this dakka topic involves male characters defined by the size of their pauldrons, and female characters defined by how much skin they show, and it's that wot strikes you as most passé, first?

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

I sure hope someone really checked on the trademark for that.

It's such a generic name I'd be shocked it wasn't already in use somewhere.

I'm positive there's a d20 game that's a not-DnD under this name. I was looking at it for 3.x supplements.

Having all the Galaxy Defenders stuff and really enjoying it, I must say I'm quite excited for this one. It does take up a lot of table space- that is true. This game even more so than Galaxy Defenders it seems..

GD is a great tactical board game though. Teamwork and positioning really matters, as those aliens are NASTY, and heaven forbid you start tossing the red ones in the mix (as each color really does have its own style of play). The game is all kinds of nasty brutalness if you aren't careful or luck isn't on your side when you roll. What's cool is S&S seems to really be rectifying a lot of my major gripes with the game (other than taking up even more table space). Real fun when bosses get your agent locked on and decide to hunt you down from across the board. If they can bring that same level of gameplay to this new game, I'll be quite satisfied.

I'll say this- I hope they take what they learn from streamlining the game in this campaign, take these new sculptors, and come out with a new core Galaxy Defenders game, because if they did that they would have a serious hit on their hands.

So yeah, I'm rambling on about Galaxy Defenders instead of the new game, but I'll buy it just because the AI was so fun to fight in Galaxy Defenders, I'm really curious how it will play out in this. The AI is one thing I really wish Brimstone could compete with, because all the baddies in GD really acted differently- some were really aggressive, some were ranged focus, some would rush in and drag your agents off to devour you in a corner away from any support...

Seems out of print, so it might be an abandoned trademark.

I'd look for other books, board games, RPGs and video games but why should I do their work for them.

Personally I'd recommend tinkering with the name if I were them.

It's interesting, because this follows exactly the same model as Zombicide Black Plague:
- original is in popular but less saturated setting (at least at the time)
- success of the original leads to Kickstarting multiple large expansions that combine to form a huge amount of content that is very difficult to exhaust
- not long after delivery of the last of these expansions, Kickstart a more polished version of the original game in a more popular but rather uninspiring fantasy setting (although S&S has much less individuality here) using the same basic mechanics
- ...enjoy massive financial success as a result?

I feel no need to own this game, not just because I own/am expecting a huge number of dungeon crawlers, but because I already own 4 giant boxes of Galaxy Defenders stuff. And I'm nowhere near playing through that stuff.

I agree on owning WAY too much Galaxy Defenders stuff now. The amount of content put out from their last campaign is just staggering, to the point that I don't want to play it even! It's overwhelming!

I will say that the sculpt quality has really been stepped up this time around. While the GD figures are adequate, and have a certain old school charm to them, the Sword & Sorcery stuff is miles better.

Curious if Ares will do what CMON should have done and include some sort of dragon boss.

Of course the ultimate satisfaction for me is whether we get a reptile hero or not.

Oh, there will be lizardmen.

THERE WILL BE LIZARDMEN.

...or there will be hell to pay.

I've been pestering Gremlins about putting some non human heroes in, and they said I'd be pleasantly surprised... so take that for for what you will.

If they add more than one pose to those and lizardmen get in.. I might be in trouble.
If there's half-snake men (yuan-ti) then it's an auto buy-in.

If I were an RPG character my willpower score would be so very very low.. :(

The figures this time around look way nicer than the ones from Galaxy Defenders. Some beastman heroes could be cool. Shame the wolf is just a companion. I won't be able to go full-on Okami with it.

With the way they made all the allies into agents and such with Galaxy Defenders, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see the wolf end up with a hero card as a backer goal or something.

Happened with the Xeno Hunter in GD's base game, and with the Wally looking robots in the GD expansions. I'm sure there's more I can't think of too.

Someone ought to mention it in the comments.
