Sit and wait in my lair with respawning spore mines as midfield disruption. I deploy the mawlocs and burrow them turn 3. Hopefully lictors will be in place by then (from deepstrike). Flyrants start in reserve (if necessary). Might struggle against long range gun lines, but I can still reach out to them. Deepstriking rippers for objectives and disruption. No superheavies in my meta, nor D etc.

With just a Malanthrope, you might want a Bastion to help it live through an Alpha...

No one in my group runs an alpha strike so brutal that I feel the need to add a fortification. I also think clever use of screening units and the infiltrating sporefield will massively reduce the capabilities of a couple of meltacide teams (which is typical in my group).

I like the ideas, but I've had trouble making a similar list survive across the field... those Dakkafexes die so easily =/
I'm going to try putting them and one or two other big bugs in pods, and getting them into the action that way (along with a few Flyrants and Mawlocs). I would love to hear if you're able to get them into the action with this list... but they just seem so vulnerable, especially if your opponent takes out the Malanthrope first.

Ordinarily I would take 1 - 2 tyrannocytes to deliver a suicide shooty fex into the enemy lines and a distuption Tyrannofex with a haywire template. I've been running that for nearly a year now, so I want to try and make something a little different work. I'm giving it the first airing this afternoon against Tau, the army that I think this will struggle with the most (NB in my 'meta'), so we'll see.
I will say that I think this could work to neuter hard alpha strike lists by using obscene cover saves and being a trap ready-sprung for those who wish to arrive within 18" of me turn 1 - 2.

Should have recorded a battle report as it was an interesting game. I had a close battle against a friend using the leaked Tau formations (I know, shut up) and I scraped a win on a malestrom game. If you wait your enemy will come to you.

Aren't that many lictors a bit overkill? I mean come on, lictors. They can go to ground and all. Lictors.

Beat a nasty UM skyhammer/Blood Angels melta spam list on malestrom with this yesterday. Lost malanthrope T1, but the amount of attention he drew allowed me to retaliate very hard.
