Gaming table (Mostly finished)
Spoiler:
Just started playing War Machine, starting with retribution, first attempt into painting minis, always played pre-painted games before. My first attempt at making terrain was for heroclix, saw someone who made their own 3-D terrain and inspired me to make some for it. So I designed and made my own modular 3-d terrain, I still use for a number of games including my home brew.
My current two projects are a gaming table for war machine that doubles as my kitchen table and a small painting booth thats vented so I can paint inside this winter.
My first step for the table is going to be a simple removable square top for my current round table while I figure out all the bells and whistles I want on the finished project. I plan to make the finish produce have removable panels on the top to reveal the gaming surface.
Got the scrap pine I had laying around from a garage build and made some planks I'm gonna stain
]
and made the playing surface out of some left over subfloor for a floating floor.
Next step is to felt the playing surface and attach the mounting cleats to the outside frame for the playing surface to sit on. Excuse the messy wood shop, I don't claim ownership to it lol
attached support cleats to hold top
Then started screwing sides together
And Finished!
Used 3m super 77 spray adhesive to attach the felt to the top.
Folded and stapled the felt around the edges
Top ready to go into table
Test fit of the edge pieces

So you are building a gaming table, cunningly disguised as a normal kitchen table?
This sounds like a great idea. I will be following this I think
Do you have some pictures of the table you will turn into a hybrid. It would be interesting to see it before.
What kind of dimensions are we talking about for a WarMachine gaming surface?

Thats correct, Its going to have a removable top that is on most of the time hiding the gaming area. The current prototype will just set over top my current 47 1/2 inch round table (making it square). I plan on adding some legs and other bits and making a full fledged table in the future once I figure out exactly what I want and build it out of a nice hardwood.
Its going to have a 48x48 playing space. so war machine spec, but will still make a nice playing surface for all kinds of games.
Ill have to grab some pictures of the current table it will be placed over.

Missing alot of extra supports, not stained ect ect but this is my prototype to see how it will work and exactly what I want. Over all I'm very happy with it, I spent less then $50 making it, but I choose to mill scrap pine into lumber, cheap acrylic felt. To recreate it in a professional quality would wager would run $100-200 all said and done,

Pretty minor update, but I did end up getting the legs on the table (sidenote, its been moved too many times and taken a beating. I've had to mercilessly stab more screws in it. It was so pretty when it was made ) stage two of my terrain project is going underway this weekend. Need to visit the rents and use the wood shop to cut up sheets of pink foam. Makes it so easy. Cant wait!!!!! Can retire my heroclix practice terrain haha
