The theme for CharCon (charcon.org) this year was monsters vs. aliens, so I expanded it a bit and ran a "Cowboys vs Monsters vs Aliens" event. The game had six players, and used the gold rush scenario. As the gangs explored the town. Terrain was somewhat interactive. As gangs explored the table they might find that the train could be driven or locals that would join their team.

Cowboys:
Los Banditos Mexicanos
Custom Gang made from clix minis

Monsters:
Croatan's pack (cards from website, proxy miniatures)
Custom Savage Beasts gang (mix of prepaint/board game minis)

Aliens:
Two gangs of Alien Invaders from Brigade Games.

I used the cowboy gangs as the basis for the aliens, adjusted the stat maximums +1 Int/-1 Str. The weapons used normal stats, but added an ability and raised the level by 1. I also gave them some various other abilities to support the theme.

Notes from the game:
Croatan's pack had a hard time. Any time one of them left a building, they died. Not having ranged attacks is a huge penalty, and I don't think the free skill quite makes up for it.

Anyway, here are a few pictures. It was great fun.

Looks great Wish I was there

And yes I agree, the beasts needed more shooting. In the current version of the rules (that will be in for the new rulebooks and updated on the web soon), beasts can take the Primitive Weapons skill that allows them to use any melee weapon or bows, or they can take the Modern Weapons ability which allows them to use guns They will always be more of a melee oriented faction, but if you want to give them ranged weapons you can now.

And more importantly, where'd you get that train from?

The train came from Walmart. It was $9.99 in the knockoff toy aisle. I think I'm going to grab another to cut up and modify some.

Cool, I think I saw something similar a while back that was from Toys R Us but it was also more expensive. Always meant to get it but forgot all about it till now. Maybe I'll see if my wallmart has 1 or 12 in stock

I thought about investing in an O scale train set for scenery, but that stuff gets real expensive real fast.

Keep your eyes peeled for X-mas trains.... visit Dollar-Style stores... etc. I have a wooden train that I picked up for $10.00 from Pat Catans http://www.patcatans.com/ , seems to be the right size; I'll probably look for a discount train as well.
