So I have determined that I want to create my own Space Marine "Chapter" that is simultaneously the "good" guys and not recognized by the Imperium. So I have created some fluff for an Iron Hands Successor Chapter that split during the Moirae Schism, I think it fits into the background of this split and is a very logical reason that the Chapter ended up the way it did;

Spoiler:
During the divide of the Iron Hands as part of the Moirae Schism many Iron Hand Companies disappeared into the vastness of space, although many of these companies came together under the banner of the Sons of Medusa the Steel Fists remain lost according to official Imperial records, many of the information on the existence having been expunged by the Inquistion. They have lost all but one of their apothecaries, and have failed to pass on his knowledge effectively to any of his Battle Brothers. As a result the company has very few young Astartes among them, and a large number of Veterans. To keep the Chapter healthy and operational, they have several techpriests and servitors to replace the damaged limbs of Astartes and to entomb those with bodies too broken to move on inside the dreadnoughts of the Chapter. The Company has no home world and therefore patrols the galaxy in a single large battle cruiser.

They fight the Enemies of the Omnissiah, and while they do not attack their Astartes brethren they shun the Iron Hands along with all other Chapters due to their refusal to hear the true word of the Machine God. They hunt without mercy all members of the Dark Mechanicum, and place great importance on destroying the perverted Daemon Engines they create. Many of the Battle Brothers have gone far enough in their following of the machine god as to replace otherwise operational limbs with enhanced mechanical prosthesis with built in weapons or improved physical strength or resiliency.

Occasionally the Steel Fists will appear on an Imperial Battlefield, and fight alongside loyalist Chapters, Astra Militarum, and Planetary Defence Force just as battle is met. Those Imperial forces that see them in combat do not question the arrival of a supporting chapter until after the battle is won, and by then the Chapter has pulled back from the planet to return to their wander through space. As such vague rumors of an unknown Chapter striking and disappearing like ghosts circulate among the Imperium of Man, and the Inquistion is want to discover who they are.

The tactics of the Steel Fists is what you would expect from a fleet based Space Marine Chapter, precision strikes from Drop Pods, atmospheric craft, terminators, and heavy vehicles that arrive to the battlefield to bombard the enemy moments before the main strike force arrives. Their troops are primarily veterans, having experienced battlefields on hundreds of worlds, and against dozens of enemies.

Opinions on the validity of this fluff would be appreciated. I like that they can kind of exist within the fluff without changing anything, and still operate like a loyalist chapter would.
