Ladies and Gentlemen of Dakka,

I need your help with this. I'm Deciding if its viable to use the Fire Raptor in a semi competative SM list? I haven't played in over a year and I'm in love with the model. All opinions are welcome.

It's certainly not weak, though it is a pricey flyer. Idk if it's considered super competitive but if you love the model that's more than enough reason to include it. I'd rather lose with models I love than win with models I hate.

It murders infantry and fliers, but will choke against AV13-14. Other than that, it will pay for itself

I like it. Being a flyer with all those weapons it pretty much always got something to shoot at. It might not work well against AV13-14, but you should have other things for that role anyways. It's machine spirit is going to make it good for mopping up the last few models of stray units.

The raptor is your anti FMC policy. It will kill virtually any FMC in a single turn, or force a jink and still maim them terribly.

Are there any decent 3rd party models or stand ins for a Fire Raptor? I like big cool vehicles but dont enjoy FW prices and those tennis ball turrets are very un 40k to me.

It is a great flyer. The Avenger Bolt Cannon is really good. I am still partial to my Stormtalons, but I would definitely consider a FR if I had one.

Could you run both the Sicaran and the FR in a standard force organization?

Yes, assuming you have fulfilled the Relic rule requirement by taking the appropriate character.

The fire raptor is excellent for several reasons.

A standard flyer can fire 4 weapons, the fire raptor can fire 6, each of its turrets can fire at separate targets, so the quad autocannons or the heavy bolter will be very good for spreading that fire around and picking the best targets, it also comes stock with a machine spirit, so for example against Orks you fire the quads at transports, the avenger at another and fire 4 missiles at whatever else you want to kill.

It's well worth its cost.
