So I have an idea for a campaign involving SM. The idea is that whenever a unit is killed (Sergeants, Captains/HQ only), you roll on a D3 table and then go from there. You start game 1 with 500 points and get 150 extra each time.

1 - Injured, but comes back after the next game.
2 - Dead
3 - Can become a Dreadnought of any type. You can only get this result once and if you get this, switch to D2 and use results 1/2

Needs refining, but it allows for army progression and 'Your Dudes'.

It makes some sense, but needs to be more interactive.

Roll a D6 for each K-O'd character:

1) Dead. May expend 50 points to bring him back.
2) Mortal Injury. He's a dreadnought now. Stick the blighter in your "gonna use him later" pool. Reroll this result once per unique acquisition.
3) Took one in the braincage. May not return to battle for two games. If this is taken twice, he's Dead, Jim.
4) Lost a limb. May not return to battle for one game. If he gets this result more than three times, he's a Dreadnought.
5) Fleshwound. Lost a chunk of flesh, but otherwise he's unharmed. Starts the next battle with -1 wound, to a minimum of 1.
6) Thank feth I wore a helmet! He's fine.

Like the D6 idea may even use it

It's pretty basic, and frankly encourages the players to be extremely reckless with their sergeants and units. As it stands, getting a sergeant killed is a great thing, as it is a 1/3 chance of getting a free dreadnought. With a system like this, I reap the most rewards for running as many bare bones cheap sergeants and HQs to just get them blown up. There's no real downside to doing that and there is nothing in place to encourage me to keep my units alive.

If you want something like this, you'll want to curb slaughtering of sergeants and cheap hqs for dreadnought spam. That's an easy fix, just make it so that bodies should be recoverable for them to be made into a dreadnought. It makes no sense to recover a body that got vaporized, or was lost in a melee where no Marine survivors are even close.
